The drama starts with a boy, eom Gi seok (jdy) and his friends going to school (high school), he's filming the flowers with a camera while they discuss the weather and how to get girls, then a girl Yoon Hye rim (csb) is seen riding her bike to school, her brake fails and she starts screaming as her bike goes out of control, she hits a rock and goes flying off the bike, Gi seok sees her and runs to catch her as she flies down (aigoo film trick), they fall down with him using his body to shield her, they stay like that for a while and she looks at his name tag, then they pull away from each other awkwardly, to kill the awkwardness he says "so you still don't know how to ride a bike Hye rim", (me: oh they know each other), she smiles at him and says, she was always better than him, then he says "it's been a while". we get a flashback, apparently they are neighbors and childhood friends who were born on the same day, we see them celebrating their birthdays together, learning how to ride bikes together at age 7, making that cup telephone thingy to talk to each other across their windows (which face each other) and then at age 14, I guess cos of puberty they got distant, she saw him shirtless, screamed, threw a stuffed toy at him and shut her window (lol), another scene she tried to talk to him through their cup phone, he cut the rope and closed the window, then they stopped speaking to each other even though they still saw each other every day.
They are now 17 (19 in Korean age) when the fall happened, the next day he's going to school on his bike and they bump into each other, she tells him they said her bike is spoilt beyond repair and she just wanted to thank him for saving her, she turns to leave and he offers to take her to school, she sees that his hand is injured from saving her and offers to ride, during the ride, he's awkward cos he doesn't know where to hold her, she notices his struggle and brakes hard so he'll have no choice but to hold her, he ends up holding onto her backpack.
This becomes a norm for them, one cold morning as they were about to go to school, she kept asking him why he didn't take his bike to the repairer as it had a problem, he assured her that the bike was fine, as they were bickering, he wrapped his muffler around her and on their way, the bike got spoilt, she started attacking him again, he tightened her shoelaces and asks her to run or they'll be late to school. They get to school late and they have to jump fence, he bends over so she can climb the fence, she gets on the fence (after killing him with her weight) and freezes cos below her is a boy (jinyoung) trying to smoke, they keep staring at each other until gi seok who doesn't know anyone is down there climbs up the fence and accidentally pushes her down, they both try to catch her but none succeeds, jinyoung goes to raise her up and gi seok jealously pushes him and helps her up. He asks jinyoung who he is and the next scene is the teacher introducing jinyoung as a transfer student from Seoul. You can tell gi seok is jealous cos all of jinyoung's attention is on Hye rim, to make things worse, she's the class president so the teacher asks him to meet her if he has any problems. After class hyerim goes to gi seok who is her official rubber band holder (lol), she collects it from him and they bicker for a while, apparently he's one of the worst students academically, jinyoung keeps watching them.
After school, she's in the library reading and gi seok is there sleeping, she asks him to go home, he doesn't answer, they leave together by bus, she asks him why he didn't just go home after taking his bike to the repairers, he said he preferred sleeping in the library to his home, she teases him that he just sleeps in the library, a few seconds later she's asleep and he says (to himself) that she sleeps in the bus and forgets her stop that's why he always waits with her in the library, he protects her head from hitting the window with his hand and his bag.
The next day in school, the students are asked to fill a career planning form, everyone is through apart from gi seok and his 2 friends, they hurry him up and he finishes, they notice he didn't fill his first semester goal, they ask him why and he said he thought it was optional, they convince him to fill it, he couldn't think of anything so they help him write down something, he gets angry and tries to cancel it but they submit it to the teacher.
At lunch, the kids are complaining that the teacher made the form their assessment, he said it doesn't matter if they pass or fail they should just record their progress, everyone is chit chatting except gi seok who looks angry, Hye rim said her goal was to pass basketball in p.e(apparently she's terrible), her friends goal is to have a meal with g dragon, gi seok's friend was about to say what giseok did but he warned them not to. He went to beg the teacher to let him change it but the teacher refused.
He's home working on his project, we finally see what his friends wrote for him, a passionate first kiss (aigoo), he starts writing

Then he stops cos he can't think of what to write, he was about to write hyerim when she walked in, he hid what he was writing and they start another round of adorable bickering, apparently she hides in his house to eat ramen and drink fizzy drinks cos her mom Banned it, while eating, they watch a movie that ends in a kiss, gi seok is all nervous, then hyerim says she hates it when movies end with a kiss, gi seok literally screams why? What's wrong with kissing, she says it feels like the end, he said it is the end, after all when you're dating, you hold hands, hug then kiss, the end (me: lmao dude, really), she says she prefers a tight hug cos it is more heartwarming and it means the story is not yet over. He angrily sends her home that he wants to sleep. She goes home and meets her dad, it's obvious they have a good relationship, he goes in to get something and his phone beeps, she checks the message (spoilt child) and it's from a woman, seems her dad is having an affair, she is sad in school and giseok and the rest of her friends come to cheer her up with food.
While he is cheering her up, jinyoung comes and asks her to help him register for gym clothes, gi seok volunteers to help, jinyoung says he wants hyerim to but giseok stylishly shows him hyerim's rubber band on his wrist and makes him follow him (kinda like she's mine, bi!tch back off). We see gi seok filming her as she practices basketball, he asks her if she is now close with oh dong gyung(that's jinyoung BTW) she says no and he wonders why donggyung keeps calling her, she asks him what his project is and he refuses to tell her, on their way home he asks if they can practice bball again and she says no she has an appointment, he wants to know who she's meeting but she says she won't tell since he didn't tell her his project.
The next day she's stalking her dad, she sees him acting friendly with a woman and her heart breaks, she keeps following them until they enter a trailer, she's crying and trying to get a better view through the window when she runs into dong gyung, apparently the woman is his mom, she starts crying again but then they realize the dad just wanted to buy sheet music from his mom, she is relieved cos she is sure he is buying it For her mom's birthday as her mom owns a piano studio, they start laughing at their folly and the noise attracts the parents, she grabs his hand and they start running, they stop and awkwardly release each other's hands, he asks if she's hungry, she says yes, they go to eat and he tells her she's cute, she was shocked and all but it's obvious he likes her (me: groaning). They continue walking home and he keeps asking her personal questions, telling her he's curious about her, giseok calls her to find out where she is, since he's with her mom, she declines the call.
Giseok is sad and starts to ask her mom for advice, he lies that he has a friend who likes a girl but is not sure how she feels and the friend is afraid of confessing cos he's scared he might lose the friendship, the mom who obviously knows he's talking about himself (my boy cannot lie) tells him, he can never be sure of anything until he asks so he should just ask, he's happy and then she adds "of course that is when you get to college" lol my boy was heartbroken.
Hyerim comes home and finds that she feels guilty towards gi seok. The next day at school he's ill, she asks him to go to the hospital, he asks her to come with him and she brushes him off saying he's not a kid, he told her to read at home and not the library and she says she always reads there, he's about to say that's cos he's always there with her but he changes his mind and tells her to go get his bike or whatever
It's night and she goes to get the bike, it starts to rain and someone stands over her with an umbrella, she looks up and it's donggyung, being all smooth, he asks her to leave the bike and walk with him, she does, when they get to her house, he confesses to her that he's liked her from the first day he met her on the fence, he asked her to be his girlfriend, she looks up at gi seok's window.
The next day at school they run into each other and it is awkward, her friend tries to know what's going on and she diverts the talk with looking for gi seok who is still ill, apparently the boys have a football match and she's worried he might be playing, at the field, gi seok has already told the teacher he's sick and can't play but as soon as he saw hyerim and her friend watching donggyung play, this boy entered pitch, of course it was a mess, he kept trying to push donggyung, his friends were worried for him, he was trying to head a ball, he hit the goal post instead and fainted.
He woke up at the sick bay, she was by his side, he was embarrassed and she started nagging at him, then he boldly told her he has something to say, the bell rang and he told her to meet him at the park by 11, she suspects he wants to ask her out, she keeps checking the time worrying, it's her mom's birthday and while they are celebrating, her eyes are on the clock, she gives her mom a present and the dad also gives the mom a present, a scarf, immediately she realizes her dad must be having an affair with someone cos she expected the Sheet music, it's almost 10pm, she traces her dad and finds out he gave the sheet to the new piano teacher her mom employed, he was spending time with her on his wife's birthday, she runs out, he runs after telling her its not what it looks like, nothing has happened between them, he tried not to care about her but he can't help it. Hyerim runs crying, we see giseok waiting for her at the park (poor bastard), she shows up at the park but doesn't go to meet him (me: mtchewww what is this), we flashback to the scene where donggyung asked her out, she replied no, he asked if it's because of giseok she didn't answer, then we flashback to her dad saying, he tried not to but he couldn't help it, then she leaves and sends giseok a text that she can't meet him.
The next day he's wheeling his bike to school and she's outside with her own bike, she tells him it has been fixed, he asks her why she didn't call or text during the weekend and she asks him why he didn't, he asks if she no longer wants to go together, she says they don't have to go on one bike, he says that's not what he means, she tells him she didn't call him cos she can't give him the answer he wants and he didn't ask cos he knew it would go in vain, he asks if she likes donggyung and she walks away, they both get to school late, they are kneeling down and still at it, she asks him not to behave as if she cheated on him, he asks if they are just friends, she says she doesn't know.
They're on their way to class and he asks her since when has she liked donggyung, we flashback to the night she saw her dad, as she left him at the park, she ran into donggyung who saw everything that happened since he's a student of the piano school, he comforts her and she asks him why he likes her since they don't know each other well, he said he doesn't have a reason he just likes her, since the wall, she tells giseok she thought her heart fluttered because of the fall so she kept convincing herself that she didn't like donggyung but that she can't help it, he walks away crying, she too is crying.
The next day she's waiting for him in front of her house as usual but he's already in school, the teacher comes in to announce that they are the only one that hasn't submitted their project and they have a week more.
At home, he gives her the video of her bball practice, he tells her she sucks at the game because she hates it, he says once you don't like something you can't help yourself, no matter how you bear it at the end of the day, you'll dump it, so she shouldn't live her life to please anyone (me.. Heart.. Break), she asks him if he'll never look at her and he says yes, he hates her. Seasons pass and she has gotten admission into Seoul university, she's packing her things to go, she goes to her window and realizes the phone cup thingy she and gi seok uses has been cut, she looks sadly at his window, then we see her looking shocked at the train station cos he came to see her off, he starts walking towards her, we see a lot of flashbacks, when they were fourteen and he locked the window on her, it was because he was embarrassed, cos he was trying to save their cup phone, he used to get ready and wait till she was almost at her gate so they can "accidentally" run into each other, the day it was raining, he actually ran out with his fever in the rain but he saw her with donggyung, the day she left him in the park, he was running to her house but he saw both of them together, she asks him how he knew she was leaving and he said how wouldn't he know, she asks how he's been, he says he's not been fine after all he's been ignoring her, she starts crying, he says he's sorry, he just didn't know how to face her, what to say what to do and what not to do with her, her train arrives and he gives her a hug, we flashback to the time she says she prefers hugs and he says he's giving her a tight hug to warm her heart, they bid each other goodbye. The end

I would rate this one 8/10.
What I liked about it
1. The story, sure some things could have been more fleshed out but I understand that it's a one episode drama so there wasn't a lot of time to do that
2. The cast
3. I liked the changing seasons, we kept seeing their life through seasons and even their story had a bright summer and a cold winter, figuratively
4. I like the open ending, I believe their story isn't over, a lot of people were not sure she liked him but I think she did, I think hearing Her dad say nothing happened but he couldn't help being with the other woman was what made her avoid gi seok, I think she did feel attracted to donggyung at some point and she felt guilty cos she hung out with him even though nothing happened between them, again it could be that she just really likes gi seok platonically but I really doubt that.
I loved this one and I have watched it over and over again. It's bittersweet. This is lovely. Yes I quoted it just to say that.   3 Likes |
