It's probably your catalyst that is shot since you perceive a foul odour when you reverse hard.
Take out the cats and inspect them. Also scan the car. With cats this bad, your car should be throwing the p0420 code by now. It's not fuel quality or fuel filter issues. Those will lead to performance problems and not smelly exhaust

Well, apparently, a failing fuel pressure sensor could potentially cause that too. Never heard of it in person but Google says so, so...
