useless pikin!!!!!

A simple "RIP" would have been nice of you. Must we know on here how bitter minded of a person you are? At least we know the teenager's only problem was low self-esteem, but trust me yours is bitter esteem. People like you would rather watch someone die than render help to have called a dead teenager a "useless pikin" simply because they lack self esteem.

Let's make the world a place of happiness , we all Can't be strong and have high self esteem. Hence, Be mindful of what you say to others, cos words atimes, have strong influence on some people.

rip to the teenager! My warm condolences to her mom and sis!

You didnt get it; Instagram said they were going to add a feature that would keep likes hidden so that people woudnt feel bad.

And it was done in some countries but widely rejected.
People with large following kicked against it, most big brands even kicked against it.

It is a bad idea for businesses.

And in these times, every business must be online for it to thrive.

These brands want to be sure about engagement. What is engagement?

Engagement is how you get paid on Instagram.

If you have at least 5k followers and usually on every post you make, you get like 1500-2000-3000 likes and maybe 100 or more comments. You can approach companies to advertise for them, especially fashion companies, hotels, restaurants etc.

These companies before giving you the job, would view your profile and study your engagement before giving you the job and paying you for it.
You then post for them, advertising for them which should generate more customers for them and increase their profits.

That's how it works.
So many people kicked against it and Instagram listened and left it.

People like Ronaldo with over 190 million followers and at least 3-4-10 million likes on a single post gets paid by Instagram for every post he makes.
Instagram pays him because of the popularity of his content. People open new accounts and jump to follow Ronaldo, Kylie Jenner, Beyonce etc.
Instagram pays these popular people to keep posting, bringing engagement to the app.

See? Likes and comments is what even makes Instagram.

These mentally unstable people should seek help and not be blaming apps for their issues.

Na you Sabi wetin you dey argue.

I said it wasn't worth it (wasn't enough reason to kill oneself because one post did not generate as much likes as she would have wanted) but Instagram likes and comments aren't worthless.
People actually get paid off these.

Try and read with understanding sister.

Does this comment make sense at all to you?

How can they hide it from her?

Did anyone force her to join?...

These platforms are also used for business, entertainment, information and a lot more.

You should be blaming her family for not forcing her to get help, not the social media apps.
For your informs Instagram hides number of likes for some accounts for this sole purpose, the Nigerian in you won't let you understand that this organizations takes this cases into account.
Like I said Nigerians have little or no knowledge of mental health that's why things like suicide equates to stupidity to y'all, if you know how vast and dangerous esteem issues are you'll understand.

It is suspicious. My guess is she was being sexually abused and that's why she killed herself.
They should investigate the 55 year old family friend

Herein lies the tragedy of social media. People think they can just say all manner of terrible things to other people because it isn't face-to-face, forgetting that not everyone is emotionally equipped to handle abuse. Nairaland is a typical example of a place where you can just run your filthy mouth at anybody. To cope here (NL) you must have a thick skin otherwise you will just go and drink sniper (this, of course is based on the assumption you have no life offline like this poor girl.)

Trolls should understand that mean words can drive weak people to harm themselves, and then when karma comes knocking you will blame one innocent mama minding her business in the village. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

Don't get too addicted to social media. Log off once in a while and GET A LIFE. If you are introverted find other activities that can help you mentally and intellectually grow without negatively affecting your social skills, otherwise you will implode, much like Chloe Davison.

If you can't handle the trolling, you stay offline. Simple as that. What if she had been born in the 80s when there was no social media.

Youths in the 1940s were loading bombs on jets and sent in front of charging canons. Today youths are to be pampered and baby sitted before they commit suicide due to low self esteem or emotional trauma arising from break ups and internet validation.

We have truly lost it in this generation

Rip to the deceased.

When you expose yourself so much on social media by sending seducing pictures, what do you expect in return? Well what you get is some likes, some sexual predators pounding on you, some envious individuals poking at you, some dudes masturbating with the photos etc. Some people get handsomely paid for getting hundreds of thousands of likes. If you find out you are too weak to put up with the negatives, innocently back out before it is too late.
While in Nigeria we have this proud mammal popularly known as Bob Risky with high esteem posting at will without caring about backlash, the USA President also suffer such but he doesn’t give a damn.
Will Donald Trump become depressed after seeing this in his Twitter account after a twit (bearing in mind that he is the most important president in the world at the moment) for example? No.

A teenage girl who was addicted to social media ended her life after she failed to get enough “likes” on her photos.

Chloe Davison, 19, was an aspiring model who relied on social media to feel good about herself, according to her older sister Jade.

“She thought she wasn’t good enough unless she was getting loads of likes and comments,” her 20-year-old sister said.

The selfie-loving teen hanged herself in her bedroom moments after she had been active on social media.

After the girl started using social media several year ago, “all she would talk about was how many likes she got,” her mum Clair Reynolds, 44, said.

“She was addicted to apps like Instagram and Snapchat,” said family friend Nick Coombs, 55, who had known Chloe since she was young.

“She would spend hours taking the perfect photo, but would delete it later if it didn’t get popular enough,” Coombs added.

Chloe struggled socially at school and rarely went out with friends, instead staying indoors and taking pictures of herself for social media.

The pretty 19-year-old was often targeted by online trolls who would send her nasty messages and mocked her appearance.

“Chloe was crying many nights because someone had said something horrible about her online,” her older sister Jade Davison told the news.

On Friday night, Chloe’s mum and sister returned home from a bar around 11:30pm, and found the teenager hanging in her bedroom.

Chloe had been taking selfies moments before she killed herself, according to Nick Coombs, 55, who was at the house when the brunette was found dead.

“When we took her body down, her hair and makeup were still perfect,” Coombs said. “She was wearing some new lingerie that she’d been excited to model.”

The girl’s mum, Clair Reynolds, said she blamed social media for what happened. “Social media took over Chloe’s life, whether that be Snapchat or Facebook.”

She added: “Chloe was beautiful, but she didn’t see that. She cared too much about how other people saw her.”

Coombs said that too many people felt they could say whatever they wanted to the attractive teen because it wasn't face-to-face.

“She’d get hundreds of messages each day, mostly men asking her for sexual stuff,” Coombs said. “Sometimes they were nice, but other times they told Chloe they wanted to hurt her.”

Both adults agreed that the girl had low self-esteem and relied on social media for reassurance.

The 19-year-old had thousands of social media followers when she killed herself.

They may be harsh, but somehow right. Mental health includes training oneself to be emotionally resilient.

Whats your position?
You couldn't be more wrong on that stand, take the case of army veterans with PTSD for instance, are you saying those men do not have the resolve or enough mental training.
Are you saying people are bipolar or schizophrenic because they lack emotional restraint. These things have to do With the mind,it's a powerful alteration and there is little to nothing you can do about it.it doesn't matter how strong you are.
