kettykings: What exactly are these past events that would cause the full blown economic war between Southwest and Southeast? If not for the generational hatred, jealousy and obsession of Igbos over Yoruba people. Is it the civil war in which your defeat came from the hands of Yoruba war generals? Is it the economic, cultural and social advancements of Yorubaland that your forefathers and their forebear are still trying to grasp? Is it the genius of a group of people who once ruled and lived in an empire interacting with other empires, that are oblivious of your existence if not for the disaster called Nigeria? You and your tribesmen sit around campfire in your village squares constantly dreaming of scenarios in which it will be possible to inflict some sort of damage on Yoruba, you then wail amongst yourselves giving insidious meaning to every actions taken by Yoruba people - government or individuals. The Hausas whom as a matter of facts and stats from the formative days of Nigeria have gone on murderous spree of Igbo don't receive the kind of bile that you spill on Yorubas daily, why? Are we your nannies? We share no direct borders, in fact you are the ones thronging into our land to constitute your nuisance. 23 Likes 4 Shares |

Livescores: The OP dosen't understand basic economic ideologies. It is a truth that almost 50% or more of the Igbo that are rich makes their money outside their region. This explains the basic common sense that always trail their vacation to the East in December to showcase their wealth to the not-too-rich SE dwellers. The Southwest is a region that can thrive on its own because of its purchasing power and peaceful environment to allow business thrive. This explains why the SW is the major destination for foreign investments in Nigeria. It will be delusional for the OP to claim the SE can cripple SW economically coz every indices points to the contrary. 21 Likes 4 Shares |

kettykings: I'm at work, I won't be able to give a comprehensive reply, however let me just give a small rebuttal: 1. If you boycott Lagos port in a trade war with the SW, where are you ging to sell your product? Which market will have the purchasing power of the SW with its literate and economic population? 2. Well, we already have Abuja Airport so why can't you guys boycott it yet instead of making a pronouncement again? Also hope you know the bulk of the revenue generated at the airport is for the federal government, so you are not doing SW a favor in the first place. 3. Universities in the SW hold like 6 out of the top 10 institutions in Nigeria. The quality of research and academic prestige of those universities are a result of the well determined work put in by the part and parcel of the makeup of the university bodies. The Igbo leaving the universities will not diminish their worth, infact it will open up more space and eradicate the crowdy nature of our institutions which will give more space for quality education. 4. Why can't Innoson consult Igbo bank owners instead of patronizing the Yoruba owned GTB? The Igbos boycotting the Yoruba banks will also mean the Yorubas will boycott Igbo banks. The Yoruba will profit more because we have lot of foreign investments in our domain coupled with the population of banking customers in the SW. Also, those banks have branches across Africa, so boycotting won't wreak the maximum havoc you are thinking. Let us both boycott eachother bank and see who collapse first. 5. Which Nolywood? Are you a joker?. Go now on google and look for the highest grossing Nolywood movies of all time, the movies produced by the Yorubas make 8 out of the 10 list. Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, King of Boys, Trip to Jamaica, 30 Days in Atlanta, Bling Lagosians, and Fifty. Yorubas are the most successful in the Nolywood business, so moving out of the Nolywood is your loss not ours. 6. Boycott international companies? This is just ridiculous. Do you think they only patronize Nigeria? Those are international companies bro and you can't dictate for them. Boycotting them in that way will imply you are telling the international bodies that the SE is a hostile environment which will make other foreign investors to run away from investing in the SE. Your loss! 7. The effect of that will be disastrous coz the counter-effect will be far worse than its benefit 8. I don't know what you mean by this. Boycott poultries and the market will adjust to the changes. 9. Its not about dump of good, its about the market to sell those goods. Where will you sell your goods if the SW lay a economic sanction on you? Well you will sell the goods for the SE population. 10. DON'T EVEN THINK OF DOING WHAT YOU OPINED! 26 Likes 6 Shares |

naptu2: Lagos State should mix it up, for the simple fact that Igbo presence in Lagos have benefitted Lagos tremendously. From taxation to commerce and industry, to demography, art, culture, Nollywood, music, Igbo women, your airport/Sea port, your churches. Igbos are probably one of the most critical component driving Lagos into a mega City status. Don't forget real estate, and I can go on and on... Just to return the favor, nope.. what you show is disdain to a group whose dynamism in the SW/Lagos in particular have effected most Yorubas in a positive way. My advice; continue to show disdain in Lagos to the Igbos......but no condition last for ever. |

knowledgeable: One thing that always amazes me about you guys is that you always fail to replicate the feat you always boast about in your region. Your first sentence give such accolade to the Igbos as being the makers of Lagos but it’s a sad tale that you guys can’t develop your region up to standard first before helping other people develop. Ogun state IGR dwarfs most of the states in the SE and the Ogun boast of the highest number of industries in Nigeria excluding Lagos. Soon you will claim you developed Ogun state and always try to talk down the Yorubas effort in developing our region. How long will you continue to live in delusion and when will you guys rid yourself from this Napoleon complex syndrome? 18 Likes 3 Shares |

knowledgeable: What nonsense is this?? Why should Lagos State mix it up?? Is it by force to buy Innoson? The one human being that pays the most taxes in Lagos is Aliko Dangote, who is from Kano, yet people of Kano are not saying that Lagos State must buy Nigerian Truck Company products, neither are people from Kaduna saying that Lagos State must buy PAN products, so what is this nonsense that Lagos must buy Innoson products? Does it really make any sense to you?? What sort of paranoia and madness is this that people are not trying to sensibly market a product, rather they are trying to blackmail and force people to buy it out of some stupid paranoia and conspiracy theory?? How can any sane person think that it will work?? Even Innocent Chukwuma uses Rolls Royce products, rather than Innoson (I know him very well) and you want to force another state government to use Innoson rather than its own products?? What nonsense!! And how does not using Innoson equal disdain for Igbos?? What nonsense is this?? The Lagos State Government has a deal with Coscharis Motors, which is owned by an Igbo man, but is based in Lagos and you are talking about some stupid disdain for Igbos?? This is absolute and complete crap! 23 Likes 6 Shares |

naptu2: Lagos buying Innoson vans is nothing on any scale of comparison to Lagos giving three electoral slots, one federal, two state, to Ibos in 2015 election year. Soon as they got the office they showed true colors with disrespect and "DISDAIN" for Lagos and Yoruba. Ibo is bad market, period! 19 Likes 4 Shares |

MetaPhysical: What is even worse is that they are making it seem as if it is by force. They do not know that they are demarketing Innoson. Companies all over the world pay a lot of money to make people (potential customers) to have a good feeling about their brand, but these people are fighting potential customers and making people have a negative view of Innoson. They are making people think that Innoson is only an Igbo brand and that the only reason to buy Innoson is because you are Igbo or because you want to "do Igbo a favour". All these things are not by force, rather you try to win over potential customers or people that you want to vote for you, not insult, try to bully and blackmail them. 13 Likes 4 Shares |

knowledgeable: In taxation, the state gets more than half of its tax revenue from industrial sector. All those manufacturing plants along Oshodi-Apapa Xpress, Isolo, inward to Ilupeju. Then the ones at Ikeja. These are the biggest revenue generators. They tax at ports, they pay property tax, they pay capital gains tax, they pay environmental waste tax, they employ workers who pay tax, they pay profit tax. Majority of them are owned by foreigners. The indigeneous ones are mostly owned by Yorubas. Next to them are real estate developers. Real estate developrs should be in lead and ahesd of industrial complexes if all buildings, residential & commercial, get permits before they are erected. Ibo is tenant at homes and in shops so your contribution is negligible. More of you sleep in shops that in an apartment or house. Markets come next. Ibo markets can never ever outstrip revenue generated by various markets spread all over Lagos Island, in Tejuosho/Yaba, in Ebute Meta, Mile12, Mile2, Ikorodu, Palmgrove, Mushin, Ojota, Ketu...and so on. Art and culture.... Do you see Yorubamen in wrapper, Isiagu and winter hat? Look around and see how many Ibos are in sokoto, buba and agbada, with gobi on their head. See your women dressed in Yoruba attire. When it comes to arts and culture let me just say you have been Yorubanized. Nollywood and music. Yoruba has always owned theater in Nigeria. We continue to own theater even today. In music, many Yoruba musicians have become household names around the globe. We have over 10 genres of music in credit to Yoruba culture. Igbo women Mttchhhew...do you mean prostitution? Airport/seaport....how many ships are owned by Ibos? What do you contribute to airport beside drugs? Churches...you flock Yoruba churches so much that Kanu even vented and showed his hatred with a promise to kill Kumuyi for going to East. This guy is not serious. 15 Likes 4 Shares |

Now, I'll address the general theme of the thread. Lagos is blessed with a very good location that has ensured that it has and will always prosper. It is because of this great location that the Aworis made it a home, it is because of this great location that the Binis made a camp here, it is because of this great location that the Saros and Popo Agudas settled here and it is because of this great location that the British made Lagos the capital of Nigeria, despite the protests of Lord Lugard, who didn't like Lagos because there were people in Lagos that could criticise him. Lagos has always been a thriving city both before and after the British took over the city as you can read from these accounts (note what the British governor said about the city and note that this was before Nigeria was even created). naptu2: It is for this reason that businessmen have come from all over the world to make Lagos their home. Europeans like Chief John Mastourodes, John N Zarpas, etc. have thrived in Lagos. People from Kano currently probably pay the highest amount of taxes in Lagos. I'm talking about billionaire families like the Dangote Family (Aliko, Sani, Abdu, Halima, etc.), the Rabiu Family (Abdulsamad Isyaku Rabiu, Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu, etc.), the Dantata Family (Tajudeen Dantata, Saayu Dantata), etc. Of course Lagosians like the Da Rocha Family, Deinde Fernandez, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas and Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony have also thrived here. Successful Lebanese-Nigerian families like the Chagourys, the Halabis, the El-Khalil Family (7up), etc. have also made Lagos their home. So have Indians like the Vaswani Brothers. Lots of people like Chief Wahab Iyanda Folawiyo (and his son, Tunde Folawiyo), Chief Razak Okoya, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, Prince Adekunle Ojora, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Chief Oba Otudeko, Chief Samuel Adedoyin, Chief Amzat Adebowale, etc. have thrived in Lagos. In fact, I can go on and on. The fact is that Lagos is a great market and a great city. If any group leaves (which won't happen anyway), others will simply take their place and life will continue as usual. 28 Likes 6 Shares |

Politics and propaganda mix well with tribalism but economics don't mix well with Tribalism. Economic motivation dictate how and where people will spend their money , NOT ethnic consideration. Port-Harcourt is very close to Igboland and it has functional International Airport and Seaport. Why Igbos don't prefer using Port-Harcourt International Airport and Seaport intead of the ones in Lagos? The answer is ECONOMY of Lagos! It has little or nothing to do with Tribalism! kettykings: 8 Likes 2 Shares |

oyatz:i did not study economics , but i have an international MBA , the factors that necessitated the emergence of Lagos are no longer there, as at 1967 -70 when Lagos officially was created as a state , Lagos thrived as Nigeria;s capital for more than 25 years with all the oil and gas headquarters and major sea ports located there to bolster the city's economy , everybody saw Lagos as their economic capital and the last bus stop for their big investments but all that is changing very fast no thanks to the next level agenda of the Buhari government and the division of Nigerians into 97% and 5 % who no longer see lagos as their economic capital . As at the last check, states in the former East are either in the process of building or have already built international airports , some are already building sea ports, some states in the south east are upping the ante by building multi billion Naira complexes for international trade , leather industry , food processing industries, and new era metropolis like the AMC in anambra Dubai was an abandoned and undeveloped hunting ground for Emirati and other middle easterners. Seoul of South korea was a devastated capital like the south eastern capitals devastated by war with little or no hope of ever making it , there was more hopes for lagos than seoul that south korean capital, singapore was an over grown ghetto with no hope of ever becoming a major financial center. South Easterner Nigeria Cities like owerri, Onitsha, Enugu was flattened , abandoned, razed to the ground, decapitated with no hopes ever of bouncing back. Fast forward to 2020 Lagos is still lagos state , Dubai is now a Global financial centre and a major tourist destination in the middle east, The total contribution of the travel and tourism sector to the UAE's GDP was AED 159.1 billion (USD 43.3 billion) which is 12.1 per cent of GDP and it is higher than the Budget of Nigeria. Seoul is now a major Global financial centre with some of the biggest companies in the world, samsung revenue is in excess of $200b and this is more than times 6 of the Nigerian budget for 2020 , Singapore is now a Global financial centre , singapore Tourism receipts was estimated at S$23.6 billion in 2014, compared to S$18.9 billion in 2010, with Sightseeing, Entertainment & Gaming accounting for 24.7% of total expenditure, Accommodation making up 22.5%, Shopping accounting for 17.4% and Food and Beverage another 9.6%. The abandoned and decapitated cities of the south east like owerri, Onitsha, Enugu are now burgeoning centers with capital inflow from igbos in diaspora , very busy Airports and very high capital transactions in terms of bank deposits and a very mobile work force. 1 Like 1 Share |

Only Yorubaland have 4 local airport in the whole Nigeria with one International and all functioning well.MMA, MMA2, Ilorin, Ibadan and Akure with Ekiti and Osun hoping to build theirs in nearest future and yet here you are telling us Yoruba don't travel but the ibos that you claim do travel is with only one local airport. Kapeter: Apart from the MMA all the traffic in the Ibadan and Akure with Ekiti and Osun airports is not even up to the traffic in enugu airport or owerri the privately built airport . what i am now telling you is that the factors that necessitated the emergence of lagos as an economic empire , which the likes of Tinubu and MC oluomo are taking advantage of today is no longer there today , lagos will slowly decline economically in the net few years with Abuja taking over and the emergence of new economic blocks like Uyo, PH and the East. The coming dangote refinery that would have helped the destiny of lagos will not see the light of the day except electric cars are delayed ,the lagos / ibadan rail will end up like Ajaokuta with very low income vs high maintenance cost. The very high cost of doing business in lagos will drive out small players to other port cities in Niger delta and leave only the big players like Dangote , BUA and MTN |

LegendHero:Yoruba's like lying to theirselves, which entertainment industry do you people dominate unless you mean you mean Yoruba entertainment industry.. Nollywood has always been an Igbo thing, igbos were the one that made Bollywood and exported it to the rest of the world.. Most big nollywood stars are all igbos..How many Yoruba actors and actresses are known outside sw states but most Igbo nollywood stars are known all over Africa ans other parts of the world..it was Igbo dominance of nollywood that made Yoruba's to form their own local film industry.. Nollywood still remains Igbo invention and dominated by Igbo's.. For the fact that few movies produced by Yoruba producers grossed a lot of money doesn't change the fact that nollywood is own by Igbos.. The rest of what you wrote is thrash especially the part you said sw placing an economic sanction on SE..don't confuse SW with Lagos as most sw states are poor to have a high purchasing power.. The largest markets in west Africa are found in SE and people all over Nigeria and other west African countries come to those markets to buy their goods.. Most goods produced in SE are also exported across west African countries.. So, stop confusing Lagos with SW . Lagos is made up of people from all over Nigeria.. If Nigeria eventually breaks up, Lagos will stop being lagos..most businesses will close up and most people will move back to their countries and the economy of Lagos state will fall.. |
