This just happened 3 to 5yrs ago. It is not a yardstick to start blaming Ayatollah, Iran or whatever. All they need to do is compensate the families. Remember there were more Iranians in the flight as well. So NL "war analysts" shouldn't start using this avenue to support attacks on Iran.

SAM does not shoot automatically. That system is always manned. Before missiles are launched, the system is loaded, activated, target verified, target locked and then the system takes it from there.

My assertion above is in line with Iran's latest report which claimed it was human error. This means someone jittery locked on that plane without verifying.

To avoid this sort of incidence, military and civilian aircrafts have different transponder frequencies so that military and civilian radars can detect which is which.
