ceaser: Bought the Green Power 210ah slim batteries 3yrs ago for 75k per piece then, the thing died in less than a year. Was giving good backup time but just went from hero to zero in just a matter of weeks. I can't say if it's the same technology here or if these ones are better, just giving my experience 5 Likes |

Thanks for the advice. For now, my 2 12v batteries connected in series to give 24volts is doing okay. But I want to upgrade to a higher capacity hence am planning to add 2 more batteries to the set up, by connecting the 2 new batteries in series, to make 24volts in order to add it in parallel to the existing set up. NB: I have a 1.3kw solar set up Will this set up be okay? ceaser: |

saint2ace:What do u think was responsible? Were u charging with phcn or Solar panels or combination of both? Did u overcharge or u allowed batteries to be drained beyond limit? Please share ur experience so we can all learn. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by saint2ace(m): 8:06am On Jan 11, 2020 |
Cheny: I believe it's a combination of all, I use a 24v sterling power ultra marine charger, I noticed the batteries get hot atimes, and during the period I used to over deplete the batteries due to lack of phcn and I was never around to monitor the usage. The house I live doesn't give room for solar so that's out of the way But my genus batteries went through the same process and lasted almost 3yrs before I changed dem and that was because I didn't handle dem properly when moving the location and one of the batteries cracked when it fell All in all I believe sometimes these things are luck but like I said my make is different from this one but it's still the same manufacturer. My argument still remains if it's the same technology or different. Cheers 1 Like |

How's your gencool ac holding up so far? I plan to use it on inverter or is it gen mode only. simydan: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by simydan(m): 9:40am On Jan 11, 2020 |
henry007: The gen mode can be turned on anytime regardless of the power source you're using. It will do well on your inverter as long as your inverter is big enough to carry it. The beauty of it is, it doesn't surge when starting. Meaning: a 1000w inverter can power a 1HP gen cool comfortably. Mine it's doing very fine and a year old now. But, you must baby sit it by constant servicesing. Constant servicesing means; always clean the filter and the evaporator time to time to keep it chilling. 1 Like |

PrinceCEE: Welcome to the family! If you need proper quotation for a standard solar setup, always do your home work first by calculating your load total and run time. Except you're ready to a pay a pro that would just look at the listed load and give you a quote for oversized system which will pay you but more expensive. Load wattage and run time always make a big difference in a solar setup and I believe you're here to get the best at a reasonable cost. You can start by getting the wattage of all the load and the hours they will run during the day and night. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by PrinceCEE(m): 4:50pm On Jan 11, 2020 |
simydan: Thanks for replying. I've settled to remove the AC and fridge from the consumption, so as to maximise the power. My total load would be 535W if I remove the AC and fridge. So, I'd be glad if you and others would suggest the best configuration that would enable I have a minimum of 20hrs of light per day, even if phcn fails. Another question: I've been using a 1kva inverter since April, last two years. I only use a 15w bulb, a laptop and a fan. When I started using it, I could use it for 3 days, although nepa do bring light in between and I use the laptop and fan at the same time. But some time last year, I used a soldering iron on it, as I wanted to solder one of my appliances. Since then, I hardly get up to 10hrs straight just on using my laptop and no fan some times, it's less than 6hrs. If I use the fan, I doubt it'd sustain up to 4hrs. What could likely be the problem? Is it the battery or the inverter itself? |

Good Day PrinceCEE I'd Like To Commend You on taking this bold step, but i will suggest that you carefully look within those appliances you have listed and choose those you think are critical. If you were to be estimated based on your request, am afraid the cost will make you scared. For me airconditioner is not a critical appliance and also the home theatre too those gadgets consume medium to high power. You can as well take advantage of our companies free consultation as to determine your power needs. PrinceCEE: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by simydan(m): 6:47pm On Jan 11, 2020 |
PrinceCEE: I'll really be glad to help out especially if you're a DIY person. Just like Olopan said if you get a quote base on on 535w for 20hrs the price will really be scary. But logically your 535w load will not run simultaneously so, that will make the cost considerable. I have a system I recently setup for myself even though my estimated load was approximately 250w. currently i hardly run on 180w and mostly run on 80w load and enjoy a 24hrs steady power even though the my system is Dependant on PHCN not solar. For a 535w load to run 20hrs that will be 535×20=10,700 To get a bank of 10,700w at 50% DOD it would be 10,700×2=21,400 A large solar array will be needed to charge the system. The cost will be very huge so, you have to reach a compromise to get a reasonable and reliable setup at the end of the day. As small as my system is if I'm to quote it with solar, it's worth over 300k with me outsourcing and installing it myself. Don't get discourage, power is not cheap. With proper planning you can start with a system that will give room for upgrade, that way you can upgrade it in future. For your old system, I believe it's the battery that has reached it's life circle due to 80%-100% DOD (ABUSE) It's just a coincidence that it started acting up just when you used a soldering iron. You can reach me for so we can work out something for your new project. 081...3460...8560 2 Likes |
