itsme01: In Colorado, Texas and several other states of the union, fully automatic weapons ARE legal to own for civilians, so the above claim is 100% wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmeRROzi_4k Furthermore, it may interest you to know that pump action shotguns, and semi-auto shotguns that are already carried by most of Nigeria's vigilante groups, are NOT legal for civilian ownership in Nigeria. So, while your claim is true, that repeater shotguns are available to Nigerian vigilante groups, it must be made clear that those weapons are technically in violation of the law, when carried by civilian vigilante groups in Nigeria. Certainly, those vigilante groups, and regular civilian homeowners, DO need repeating firearms to combat robbers who carry all sorts of firepower, therefore, one can only hope that the Nigerian Firearms act of 1990, can be revised to allow ALL civilians to LEGALLY own pump shotguns 2 Likes 1 Share |

If na fulani herdsmen dem no go talk if they see ak 47 in their hand those ones are born to rule greater than the law but yorubas are born to serve lesser than the almajiri wakawaka even with all our education..whoever joined Us together was the one who created this problem we are not one please let's divorce |

Mynd44:It really isn't simple if the herdsmen are carrying AK47, how do you expect these guys to confront herdsmen and other similar dangerous units? The whole point of creating this security unit was because of the failures of police to protect their fellow citizens and the perceived bias towards herdsmen. A lot of you guys are so naive. 4 Likes |

Jakumo: yeah US used to have a Federal Assualt weapon ban but it expired in 2004 and its left to states to legislate on the issue , some ban it others dont Pump actions and other catridge loading Guns are lisenced freely until 2015 that buhari ordered it to stop, however people are still getting the lisence PS: no where in the Fire Arm Act prohibits the use of Pump action http://www.nigeria-law.org/Firearms%20Act.htm?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi0pf-S5v_mAhUrURUIHTQJAngQFjACegQIChAB |

Dollyak: Aunty Pump Action has more damaging power than AK47 in close range combat, and Fulanis carry Ak 47 illegally due to the problem caused in Libya by the US.. In lay mans term what Police are saying is that Amotekun must come for lisencing to get guns and they can only get semi automatic riffles |

Is the police telling Nigerians that the arms Fulani illiterates carry in the Bushes are registered? Then why do we find of difficult to pin down murderers in the bushes? This Nigeria is not a country o 1 Like |

itsme01: Deep in the text of the law, you will notice that there is a reference to the illegality of any civilian owning ANY weapon that is capable of "self-loading", which is a term that covers ANY pump-action, semi-auto or full-auto weapon, thus making ALL such weapons ILLEGAL for civilians. Now, if you happen to already own a pump action shotgun, look carefully at the wording on your licence, and note that your pump gun is described as a "Single Barreled Shotgun, which is merely a clever way to avoid describing it as a self-loading weapon, by instead focusing on the number of barrels that the gun has. |

itsme01: Out to ranges of LESS than 50 meters, a shotgun will stop the threat quickly, and without the need to take perfect aim before each shot fired. At such close ranges, an AK47 rifle is equally devastating, BUT, must be aimed in order to place accurate shots, if fired in semi-auto or single-shot modes. At ranges in excess of 50 meters, an AK47 is a far more effective weapon than ANY type of shotgun, because the rifle, if accurately aimed, remains lethal for hundreds of meters, while shotgun pellets, out beyond say 100 meters, are unlikely to inflict mortal wounds on the target. In short, for inner city close-range combat, the pump shotgun is king, BUT when the range of fire exchange exceeds 50 meters, the AK47 is capable of dominating any battle space, in trained hands. 2 Likes |

Why can't the Nigerian police work with the outfit, train and monitor them, kidnappers and criminals use AK 47, dane guns can't work against them. |

samintegrity:You must be a joker. How secure is Nigeria with these same groups you are suggesting should be recruited? Nigeria is a country of many different tribes. No matter how Nigerian we are, you don’t get comfortable enough to come and attack people in their ethnic land. Otherwise they have the right to stand up and protect themselves. You can be an animal at home, but don’t expect others to tolerate your bad behavior. Especially in another’s home. Every ethnic group, their traditions and ancestral lands must be respected. That fact can never be wiped away under the name Nigeria. 1 Like |

itsme01: I'm just standing here wondering if Miyetti Allah, Boko Haram and the Fulani militiamen carrying AK47, HPMGs and even RPGs are also licensed and have a.......eeeeerrrrm.......working relationship.......these are the guys Amotekun is trying to counter, by the way, carrying "Dane" guns. As an aside, why Nigerians call local firearms "Dane" is beyond me. Are they made in Denmark? |

Jeezuzpick: dont you think we would be creating more problem if we also give Amotekun war grade weapons, even police that use them have being killing people with stray bullets.. If Amotekun sights Fulani bandits, the Guns are meant to curtail them and fight them till they can alert the police and the army close by |

It's time the Federal government of Nigeria accept it's L and move on. Policing cannot be done effectively when it is coordinated from the federal level. Policing should be community based. how can you centrally police over 180 million people? Let the States and regions be in charge of their police apparatus that way, it'll be easier to tweak it to meet their security realities. The Federal will still keep its police to enforce federal laws, while the state police enforce state laws. The constituents of the SW and the other geo political zones in charge of this Amotekun should impress it upon their Senators and Rep members to change the laws as it relates to policing. We fail to realise the power in our hands. Once the laws are changed, the NPF will have no option but to relinquish. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Afenifere was right when they said that Amotekun can only catch chicken thieves and not Fulani herdsmen. They knew that northern dominated federal govt will never allow that to thrive because it will limit the expansion of Fulani in South West. First class Fulani can carry any weapon of their choice, second class Yoruba can set any security operation of their choice but with limited weapons, while the third class Igbo can't set any security operation let alone carry weapons. One Nigeria indeed. 1 Like |
