grades matters to me...i read like mad in school though i finished at 4.0 all thanks to unfriendly friends who stole my answer sheets after submission( some results still missing till date, senate did not allow a repeat of final year because i got good grades already..i still read daily even after a 3rd degree...keep going hard at it you will sure make 4.6/7...you will make first class just ensure you have more As now and worse B...you will get there...one good thing about academic excellence is that it is not common...whether rich or average academic excellence cannot be over emphasized or taken for granted... a lot of folks who cannot sit for an examination without "seating with peeps they will cheat with, or ask questions" are the ones to quickly jettison academic excellence or grades...

Hi Hazan,

You can still make First Class depending on your subsequent performance, course units you have passed and Course units left

For instance, if you have done 100 units so far, that mean you had 4.26 * 100 = 426points

if you have 60units more to do, you need to have A all through

60 units * 5point (A) = 300

(300points + 426points) / (60units+100units) = 723/160 = 4.51

You can send me all your results(units and grades) so far and course unit for the 4 semesters left via 09062765570 Whatsapp

Note - my analysis is based on assumption, until i have the correct figure then i can make accurate calculation.

Please dear nairalanders I need your dearly advice

Am a student from a university here in Nigeria, it happens that I got 3.39 as my first gp which makes me unhappy but I didn't allow it to depress me... So the following semester I got 4.75 and now out of 8 semesters in total.. Am done with 4 now and my cgp totals 4.26 ... I have four semesters left.. Can I make it to 4.5? And what gp do I need to keep for each semester left to achieve that.... Thank you

Note: Don't talk about how grade doesn't matter in my life, am quite aware too as am not even planning to work with the degree

My Dear...

Just try not get a C and perhaps less B's in the remaining courses and you're gonna hit 4.6-7

Bro, you have 4 semesters to go.

With 4.26 on ground, you can make beyond 4.5.

Just aim for As from now on. It doesn't mean that getting a B or C along the line will affect your goal. Don't get me wrong.

But just work harder for the As. If one or two or three Bs come along, no problem. Just make sure you work towards getting far more As than any other grades as from now on.

If I give you a GP to work on, it might affect you in the sense that you will start working towards that GP rather than working generally for excellence.

Don't limit yourself.

Good luck.

I am a first class graduate myself. I just aimed for As. I had some Cs and Ds but I didn't dwell on them. My sight was on getting as much As as possible.

You can still make it with determination and hard work. I had a similar scenario during undergraduate days; started with 3.91 in year 1 but eventually graduated with a first class degree in one of the engineering courses.

Having A's in all courses should be your target every semester, even if you would make it, you should be close to the target. Grades from 'C' and below should be avoided as much as possible.

Be consistent, start early while others are resting, use past questions as study guide and have a fellow mate you can share ideals with (one that does not claim to know it all). Above all do not lean on you own strength; always pray for wisdom and grace!

Lest I forget, also learn a skill!

Yeah it is still possible.my advise to you is that don't put your mind in it Should in case you don't make the first class at the end of the day so that you will not be traumatized.succeeding in life in beyond making a first class.if you are studying engineering,it is not also bad if you make a 2.1 but just try as much as you can to have a skill and don't rely on the certificate.i wish you all the best.
Shout out to my fresh civil engineering graduatesfrom uniport.we will make it no matter what.

The country situation isn't bad to that level, stop deceiving yourself and other people, even second class upper graduates are getting good jobs months after service. first class graduates might not get 300k immediately after graduation, the starting salary is for an average worker in nugeria with degree is 100-200, a lecturer might start with 100k, but give him 20-30 years, he will be earn 500+ per month. A first class graduate doesn't need connection most time, if a company calls for interview, they call for interview because they have no one, so the best result is likely chosen, first class graduate have very high opportunity of getting good job. And for "husling", there are millions of Nigeria that husled and husled till their old age and still didn't make it, the very few you see are the only ones on your mind, mechanics, tailors, barbers are also husling, many of them still didn't make it, the best way of making it is through school and graduating with good grades, it's very very rear to see a first class graduate earning less than 80k after graduation, unless if he isn't serious about job search or he only want to work in his area.

Guy grades don't matter in life tho but while you have the opportunity make the best grades, it doesn't kill. You still have 50% chance if you work very hard to repeat that cgpa you had earlier, for this year at least min. 4.6 constantly

According to my calculations, u need nothing less than 4.74 each semester to make 4.5...
I'm also in a similar scenario but I can't make 1st class again.. But my gpa has been increasing 0.3 every semester.. I also have 4 semesters left, I've done 6 semesters. I've had 2.0 and 2.95 in the past but its all over now.. Having 5 dot is not hard. The mindset I have is I can't lose more than 30 marks after preparing well for a course and i don't have any other job apart from being a student.... And the people that are saying school na scam wouldn't mind if they have first class..
Goodluck bro

Please post your calculations.

Which first-class aspiring student does know how to compute GPA and CGPA?

I suppose you CGPA at the end of the second year is 4.26 meaning that you maintained 4.75 or more for the three other semesters.

Now the mathematics is quite simple:

For a first class on the 5 point system, you need to make at least a CGPA of 4.5;

Now 4.5 times 4 years gives 18.

And we have 8.52 or 2x4.26...

It means you have to make up the difference of (18 - 8.56) or 9.48 remaining years.

In any case, you must maintain a GPA of, at least, 4.74 for the remaining two years.

In this kind of scenario you must avoid getting any grade less than a B in all your courses while ensuring that you get an A in your project and other heavy credit load courses. Note that there must be a preponderance of As...

Is it achievable? Very much... You must, however, pray against some wicked lecturers and other unforeseen contigencies because one C or D in the remaining courses will most likely torpedo your chances.

Good luck!

I graduated with a first class in Mathematics. At the end of my second year, I was writing a a CGPA of 4.31.

So, you can definitely make it. You'd need an average of 4.75 GPA per semester.

Hard work sir. Hard work. Follow the advice of your supervisor/moderator. Don't argue against their advice. Make them feel u look up to them and respect them.

My point is that there is politics involved in projects. That may account for 10 to 20 % of ur score.

But hardwork is the key. Follow all guidance. Don't cut corners. For instance, bad bibliography can lead to loss of 5 % of marks. Bad spelling and grammar and formatting can lead to loss of 5 to 10 %
