All around the world, every country except the west use one form.of fermented beans to cook some delicacies and they all have very strong smell.


I watched one of my favourite Korean YouTube food channel maangchi, she stays in USA and in one of her vlog, she showed how they prepare their own version of fermented beans.
At a point, she has to go and continue cooking in an open field cos according to her, she dont want them to call the police on her cos the smell can be terrible but that is what they use in cooking . Virtually all their food must include the soy paste. It's like our ogiri, iru or okpei.

I don't blame the landlady, she dont know and what u don't have any idea of, u can be aversive to it.

I can understand. You go into some kitchens and low budget resturants and the smell is awful. I keep on saying that Nigeria has a very poor culinary culture. Nothing has improved in the decades since I was born, no new menus, no innovation and development of the traditional ones. With our humongous population and cultural diversity, their is no single culinary offering to the world. Only we like our food.
