I hope you will still post when it starts to fall.

When drowning, you are thrown up some times, better to clutch unto a straw rather than think the sea is playing with you.

Some of us know about that. However that time is yet to come.

We are now in the time you were saying will come ... since august.

If wapco should leave the car park eventually, no one should come here and say he/she couldn't see to buy, because the "noise" on it was/is much for the past weeks.

Please gurus, as a newbie I was planning on buying any of the top dividend paying stocks preferably UBA and Zenith. After collecting the dividend would I be able to offload as fast before rates start dropping again?

For example UBA is currently more than 50% above its lowest point for the last 52 weeks.

If I come collect 9% yield or something and loose 50% after he no go make sense o.

I dey try learn d work o.

We have different threshold. Unfortunately when people join a forum like this, they dont understand that our risk profile differs. So when you follow someone with different risk profile, when the risk materializes then response will be different. When people use SHORT TERM funds for LONG TERM INVESTMENT because someone told them of a 50% return in 2 weeks what do you think will happen?

Then you have people averaging down and the more they buy the lower the market goes! How patient can they be after they've spent rent and school fees money to buy shares expecting to make 50% in 6 months only to be at 25% loss!

Then you have those that don't fully understand the strategic reason behind some moves. You have people buying illiquid stock to get on the board. No plan to sell. Now you joined because it was gaining 10% everyday with the hope of selling! You suddenly discover that what you have is paper profit because no one is BUYING smiley

People need to develop a plan and follow the plan. Yes you can update your plan BUT don't do follow follow because of our risk profile, objective etc are DIFFERENT.

Know yourself and UNTO thyself be TRUE

Enough said.
He that has ears, let him hear.

The stock is illiquid cos of very low OS.
The dividend yield is very attractive just like you have observed.
However, you have to note that the company doesn't release financial information in a timely manner.
If you are a newbie, run from this kind of company.

The vehicle now left for nearby village 15, moved small to 15.40 but went back to 15 and has been there since.........until today. It closed 15.95. grin

The next two weeks (maybe 3....nothing is certain in the NSE) should be good for WAPCO. It would go past N16.5 before retracing and moving on to N18 or beyond. Unfortunately, the return is still not as good as some key stocks on my radar. Its a good long-term stock due to imminent good dividends, but if you are greedy and skillful, then join me in playing some interesting "Snake & Ladder".

Infinitisi:

To succeed in the stock market you need knowledge, far more knowledge than people realise and also experience. Without adequate knowledge/financial literacy you are only going to crash. So what I advice is:

1. You need to first understand what shares/stocks are and how the stock marker works. This is very important. Go online and look for books that explain how the stock market works in simple terms. You can try the one in this link https://zerodha.com/varsity/module/introduction-to-stock-markets/ pls note I haven't read the book and the author is Indian so he will be talking about the Indian stock exchange. But the principle is the same across the world.

2. Decide if you want to be a fundamentalist or a technical trader. A fundamental investor analyses the companies financial results and looks for good, financially healthy stocks to buy at prices lower than what they are worth. He buys to hold for a long time and enjoy long term capital appreciation and/or dividends. He may also sell if prices rises to a level he feels the stock is over prices. The technical trader on the other hand uses technical analysis (just like forex trading) to analyse stock charts and take advantage of short term trading opportunities, buying low and selling high. So decide which side you want to belong and study along that line. You can also combine both strategies. Some do it here.

For a basic intro to fundamental analysis download and read this https://zerodha.com/varsity/module/fundamental-analysis/

For a basic intro to technical analysis download and read this https://zerodha.com/varsity/module/technical-analysis/

3. Do yourself a favour and read the first 50 pages of this thread. Then you can read the last 50 pages of this thread too and from now on keep following the thread. A lot of useful information can be found here and some of your questions will have already been answered here.

4. LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT DO NOT PUT A KOBO IN THE STOCK MARKET OR IF YOU MUST, ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE TILL YOU HAVE STUDIED AND HAVE AT LEAST A FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THE STOCK MARKET IS AND KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDAMENTAL AND/OR TECHNICAL ANALYSIS.

Give yourself time. The stock market is here and is nor running away. When you eventually start trading you may make a few mistakes but these will be minimised if you have a good grounding from your studies. As your experience grows you will only get better.

Good luck.

They laughed at me when I talked about access and others new support.

I wonder ooo, maybe some people think that the banks would go lower than August price.

We are watching though
Access might still witness some upward push, but will likely come down once their result comes out, If they finally accommodated all about their new wife Diamond bank in both positive and negative, their EPS will go below that of UBA.

Over the year, I witnesses that some stocks that are about to release a bad result usually got pump so that by the time their result show which will attract market punishment of bear visit, their market makers will wait at certain low joint where they can stand to defend it.

Don't expect Access bank to report high EPs in their final year result, know when to leave with your gain from capital appreciation than loosing them in expectation of dividend payment.
