sleek15: HSE is currently a profession and requires you to have professional skills, knowledge and certification to be able to practice. Importantly, it is a professional course that applies to all endeavors of life. Including Schools/Educational Institutions. In sane societies 80% of Nigerian schools will not pass the safety inspection/audit. Schools are supposed to have a Safety Officers. In saner societies also, there are strict regulations (guidelines and standards) that schools must adhere to (whether public or private) before they are considered safe. Generally, your HSE Skills should be able to make you better appreciate job/task assessment, job/task hazard analyses, general hazard identification and risk assessment, etc. within the school environment. It should also give you a basic idea of first aid and emergency response among other skills. It will be a plus to have this in your CV. And if you wish you can tailor your focus on School Safety. my advise if you get it if you can. Good luck. |

Narnah: We have always advised to start small, depending on your knowledge and experience in HSE Sciences, Engineering and Management. If you are new to the field the advise is you start small. Do the UK HSE or ISPON HSE Levels applicable to a graduate. Then you can advance to NEBOSH. Please note that NEBOSH is more intense than 'UK HSE' . It also has more modules, more expensive with more course content. It is also very structured. The classes are intense for newbies and exams are written almost immediately. If you have the funds, start from the Basics. Which is ISPON HSE /'UK HSE'. After having a general idea of what you are delving into, you can then progress into NEBOSH and other advanced courses. Another thing you can do is to get the NEBOSH/ISPON Materials to study with on your own. This early enough study will give you a head start when you start the real courses. So try and get the free study materials. Get yourself acquainted with the course content, then go ahead and start with the HSE Levels 1,2,3 then progress to NEBOSH. Good luck. 3 Likes |

olatunyemi: Well, they all focus on the promotion of the Science, Engineering and Managerial HSE Skills in interested persons. So in a way they have the same goal in the long run. NEBOSH is a UK HSE Professionals Examination/Certification body. CIEHS is a professional organisation that also grants memberships of various cadres based on the passing of some professional exams. CIEHS is American based. CIEHS does not deliver courses. It only develops syllabuses for its qualifications and sets methods of assessment, such as examinations and practical coursework. Courses are delivered by CIEHS Accredited Training Providers. If you ask me, I will advise you to go for NEBOSH. It is more popular and more internationally acceptable. If you review literature you will find out that 90% of the job advertisements for safety, health and environmental (SHE) roles reviewed, specified one or more NEBOSH qualifications; up from 83% last year (2016). Also, [In 2017] More than half (51%) of vacancies called for a range of NEBOSH Certificate-level qualifications, up from 45% last year and 38% in 2015. The NEBOSH General Certificate meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (TechIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). However, the above is my personal opinion. 2 Likes |

helpsomeone: 1.CERTIFICATION a. Please note that a search on the IOSH UK Website did not generate any result for your company as certified by the body. If you can, kindly do a search and post the name you used in searching on their website. b. The IBOEHS Website lists your the company Clover Safety Services, with number ATP-001 c. You mentioned that your company is ISO Certified. It is certification as a company that meets that standard or certification as a company that can provide training on the standard or both? CONTACT a. On the IBOEHS Website you provided you email address as cloverssafety@yahoo.com and your website as http://iboehs.com/web/www.cloverssafety.html . Please note that the web address is NOT FUNCTIONAL. b. ..Will it be a bother if you state exactly where you are in Ibadan? TRAINING LOCATION I wonder how your training is offered online. If it is through your website please note that your website is not working. Unless you are saying you do this through video calls like Skype (Teams)/WhatsApp Videos Calls. Or are these pre-recorded trainings? Please elaborate if you do not mind. And the offline training, how are these delivered. TRAINING CONTENT Please let us see the various forms of Training you provide if you do not mind. Finally, these questions which as you may noticed reek of doubt, would be answered to a large extent if your company's website is functional with the necessary details and verifiable facts of your company. 1 Like |

I av just spent good 2hrs or more reading this thread from scratch(all d way from 2008) and I must say, very informative and impressive. Weldone @Brainwave and all the guys who's been keeping here alive. I am medical graduate and I am thinking of doing my MSc in public health, maybe OHS as a sub. Pls I need ur advise as to whether being certified in HSE wud be beneficial during entry into Masters prog in this field. Thank you all...I really need ur advice. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by brainwave(m): 10:53pm On Jan 28, 2020 |
Starfaith: @Starfaith, you're welcome on board! As per your enquiries, I frankly don't see in very clear terms, how HSE certifications would impact your chances of gaining entry into uni for an MPH program with OHS as a sub-discipline. There are definitely folks that started with core medicine before choosing to become OHS specialists but HSE certifications may come in more handy in the 'marketplace' (job market) when competing for HSE positions than for gaining entry into an MSc or MPH program. That's just my thoughts but others can chip in their opinions as well. Cheers! 1 Like |
