The Lexus Es and early U660E transmissions are not so Solid.
They had few defects .
Many torque converter issues.
Shudder between 35-44 kmph while switching to 3rd gear .
Etc .

Some of them can be solved with atf change. Some issues which you have to live with forever, unless you wish to Replace the gear box or rebuild .

Rebuild transmission would be cheaper, check if Radautoworks can do the job, but you still need a high-end scanner to pin point faulty component in transmission.

Only if it's electrical. Most transmission issues can't be scanned. Will have to tear down.

I’ll advise you to seek for the original Toyota/Lexus automatic transmission fluid (ATF) before changing your transmission (gear box oil) fluid, as there abound fake oil in Nigeria. If you use any of these un recommended transmission fluid like ABRO, Oando e.t.c, it will make things worse.
When looking for transmission fluid, ask for original Toyota/Lexus Type IV. I wish I’m nigeria now, I’ll have sold you the original one I bought from Lexus dealership here in the U.S, as I have an extra 8-litres in my place.

Anyway, good luck and I hope you find the right fix. The ES is a great car if taken good care, as I own similar year as yours.

this vehicle does not use Toyota type IV transmission fluid. It uses Toyotal world standard (WS) transmission fluid. It's readily available

Forget all the hype here of 'professionals' on this forum that do PPI (all na wash). In the end, you may be in a far better position to make a more informed decision on the purchase of your vehicles. Do your research!

Please always do due diligence and be well informed of the quirks and likely problems your proposed car might have when purchasing your intended vehicle. It is your money!

Please make out time for yourself! Be there physically, whether you employ the services of a PPI specialist or not! If he/she declines, walk away! In the end that time(and money) you are trying to save , you will spend both that time and money in all mechanic workshops you can think of!

Finally, Please take your time and be patient!(this has always been my weakpoint). That good ride will surely come!

my advice is to keep on driving the vehicle like that and wait it out till the replacement gear price comes down or rebuilding parts and technical know how are available at your disposal
