So why is the CBN increasing the cash reserve ratio for banks barely 2 months to dividend declaration. They want to stop banks from giving out much of there profits as dividends.fellow investors we now know who our enemy is?make I catch that CBN governor first.

Oil is our mainstay. The outlook is bearish. Even without the virus scare, it was bearish. There is a large supply. The virus scare worsened it.

As for the direction, it is just to maintain a cautious approach.

I believe this CRR news could have its impact as well.

Look at it this way: CBN will hold additional 5% of funds from bank. This fund will not be available to the banks. Banks will have to find funds. They will increase deposit rates to attract people to drop their funds with them. Those funds that are meant to find their way into the market will prefer to give bank presuming that Tbills remains depressed. That way funds are starved from NSE to support any rally.

This is another negative in addition to those that are selling off.

This points to the fact that the volume seen this January is just unusual.

Still no shaking, Sir! Still first level thinking.... All these CBN fund sterilization etc wouldn't impact on the FY2019 results but on Q1 2020.. First things first, question is - are there still buying opportunities against the FY2019 results? Positive... Just profit taking going.... Buying opportunities beckoning, my 10k opinion! After that, we deal with Q1 2020 results... Second level thinking!

CRR is to curb inflation from rising. You know from next month we are going to have increase in VAT.
If they reduce their dividend declarations, people will bash bank stocks.

Absolutely, Sir! Emefiele is the one causing ripples in the markets with his make-shift, make-believe policies - always giving us shocks with his heterodox actions. And as an investor/trader, you don't fight the Emperor (Just like, you don't fight the Fed) - you don't trade against the Emperor's actions, you position to benefit from his many shocks to the markets.

As CBN governor, you don't micro-manage the economy. You just provide us with a bigger picture strategic framework, guidelines and forward guidance for folks to key into re. their macroviews and investment strategies etc, period! He really needs to step back on this and see the forest for the trees - a big picture perspective!

If crude oil remain above 57 dollar budget benchmark no problem, but when it goes below, please be fearful when others are fearful. But today bleeding is bear that will soon welcome bull. And in this condition, be greedy when others are fearful.

Meaning this principle govern the market now "be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful". Bull will still dominate the market till April, but bear will always show face to create wealth building opportunities for JiJo group.

Still micro-managing! Just pray the oil price doesn't crash to $40/S45 and you will see gbese….. He's been lucky so far. Even the successful I&E windows, he staggered into it after many failed solutions. but for how long? Keeping the FPI investors happy with OMO policies, hmm? Not sustainable, one bit. The country needs FDIs in the long run and not FPIs... Which wouldn't come unless we have a clear strategic monetary framework re. growth and mkt-determined FX polices cos Investors don't like uncertainties no matter how you window-dress the incentives etc.

That's market for you.
Did you enter at high price? If yes, you will need a truck load of patience or sell to enter at cheaper price. This is totally at your discretion now.
That's one problem with Zenith in particular.
Once dividend declaration is coming or they declare dividend it starts falling.
Pray this one will be different.
I'm personally not a good fan of banking stocks. Dividend pushed me into UBA, dont know if I will still wait for it at the second thought self. grin

Most likely, historically speaking, Ma! UBA tends to trend higher 1st/2nd week in Feb (typical banking stocks), after that EOM activities kick in..

That too, isn't bad. Though not optimal in this market. Go ask the dividend catchers that caught Zenith Div 2017/8 @ over N30 or even last yr's one @ N26, none has broken even up till now, capital appreciation wise. Hoping you get my gist now.

BTW, No old moniker on this platform....

Honestly, so many things are chasing the fdi out of Nigeria. Nigeria economy is too volatile cos most of her foreign exchange is gotten from oil, which is a volatile commodity. Other ones are poor judiciary system, Poor infrastructure like roads, electricity etc., Insecurity
and high depth profile.
We are praying that Brent price wouldn't crash below $57 cos d gbese will start there.

Yes o! Even all these risks you mentioned can be mitigated and priced in, but not uncertainties cos you just don't know what you are dealing with.
