A nigga once said:i don't think reading can actually make someone go mad..But getting tired while reading and not understanding what you're reding, yet you keep forcing yourself to continue is where the problem lies..

So many a times when i read and get tired it seems i no longer understand what am reading that is when i end up been frustrated and start acting insane..It's my elder bro that'll tell me "if u no dey understand watyn u dey read again u no go drop am go sleep" i"ll just look at him like a mad man fling the book and lie down to sleep..when i wake up i tend to feel allright...

you maybe right sir...it maybe be something spiritual...but what got me confused is that he lost his sanity while reading..
His kind of insanity had always been with him. It helped him to concentrate (too much on little details) that made him initially stand out as brilliant. Unfortunately, it robbed him of his normal relationship with people and balance.

Have you noticed it's rare to see a child below 7 years old having insanity problems?

of course excessive rreading can run you mad. in reading your spirit is travelling away from your body and exploring other realms and other possiibilities and other realities as ddictated by the book being read and this can be draining on the human body. you read more thaan enough times your spirit may find it difficult to reattach to your body again and then you become officially crazy. this is why all these professor types all look crrazy and have checked out of this world and have stopped taking care of their appearaances because they have checked out of this world spiritually and cant return to their bodies. they are now semi mad lol

From your topics.... You sef Don dey mental

Modified. ...
In my days in Futa people ran mad during exams. We attributed it to excessive reading. But alas research made us know that they had other problems.
Reading cannot make you mad. Although I fit dey quote formulas and theorems for road with obvious gestures ,it doesn't mean I'm mental.

By the way do you know that every human has at least a minute of madness everyday?
Smoke igbo join e go help you increase am to one hour. Smoke Colorado join e go increase to one day
Add Nigeria matter e go increase to a week
Add cocaine join upgrade to one month.
Make my mamas, awon iya mi oshoromoniga, add hand join it's a lifetime sumtin .
One love.

You are right sha.

He didn't get mad because he over read buy he got mad because he didn't rest. In other words, lack of rest triggered her/his insanity.

Your brain is more than a super computer. You don't yet understand the capacity of the human brain that's why you are scared. As I am now, i can never believe this stupid concept that "too much reading can make somebody mad naturally" it is a lie from people who can't read as much as you do or people who don't want you to know more than them.

Your brain can take any amount of information you need to take in and no matter the information you take in, when you die scientists will still tell you that you haven't used up to 10% of your brain. Although this has been said by some other scientist to be a very popular science myth but there may be some fact in it.

Juju and evil powers is very common in this part of the world so if you like you can believe it but a fact is it may be the cause of this your guy's misfortune.

That somebody choked and died while eating food does not mean we should not eat to our satisfaction.

That somebody drove a car and had an accident does not mean we should not drive cars again.

That somebody read and lost his mind does not mean we should not read as much as much as possible.

That somebody who had genius level IQ became mad does not mean we should not strive for world class intelligence.

Stop personalizing things and go out there and read all you can. We dont need more ignorant people anymore.

More people die of ignorance than of over learning or reading.

You know nothing jon snow

Hello Nairalanders

This issue has been bothering me for a while now......I had this friend who during our school days was so brilliant,in fact this friend of mine wrote his common entrance at primary 4....at jss1 he wrote his junior WAEC....

Back them we nickname him The "guru"....There was no time I visited him at home, that I wouldn't see him reading, this guy can read from morning till night.....though I was irritated with his attitude but I kept on admiring him because there is nothing in this world that this guy don't know....there is no words in the dictionary that is new to him... he was respected among our peers.....

Suddenly, he was no longer communicating with us with plain English, any small question will always be meant with grammar.. In fact this guy will go to the market to buy something and will begin to communicate with the market people with grammar...they we just be looking at him like a madman...

Then, one fateful day according to his mother,he ran out with a dictionary screaming "loquacious"all effort to calm him was in vain
the guy is in the asylum right now.....

This episode has left me confuse.....expert in the house can you help me out.....

But it wasn't the fact that he read too much. It was his medical problem that manifested as "his drive for reading"
Most-times the problem is genetic and sometimes it is spiritual.

I pray that he gets the required help he needed

There is no limit to information the human brain can take. Reading too much will not make you go insane.

Too much of anything is bad. The parents should have been sensitive enough to know when to tell him to drop the books and catch some fun (maybe do sports or anything that is not brain tasking).

In as much as we all desire to see our kids succeed academically, we must also help them to be balanced in life. If you are a great thinker at any profession you are into, you'll realise there comes a time after hours of brain work that you begin to feel some pains (distress) at the center of your head (medical guys can explain it better). For me, it's a call for relaxation (just drop that task for like 10 or 15 minutes and catch some fun). If you try to be stubborn and continue, it'll get to a time you will lose efficiency in what you are forcing the brain to continue at.

As a programmer, I work round the clock. However, when I know my brain is demanding a break, I force myself to give it (it's not always easy especially when I'm trying to get a task done and it's prooving difficult).

When you get to a stage in your mindset where you realise that "healthy living is above all", you will know how to balance everything as you pursue you dream towards greatness.
