Are you naturally slow? Read my post again and take your time to understand everything I posted! Biafrans SUCCESSFULLY captured Ore and held it for weeks after driving out the Federal forces defending the town (pure fact from all documented accounts you can find even on the internet database), capturing a position and retreating afterwards are two totally different situations in battle, and I CLEARLY gave reasons why such scenarios played out in the battle of Ore and the Midwest ... if you even had any iota of comprehensive and cognitive abilities to read and understand, you would have seen in my post where I STATED that the Biafrans were in complete control of Ore and other axis like Okitipupa (once again these are facts you are research for yourself, materials on the civil war are easily accessible online from various credible sources)... Biafran troops only began to retreat from Ore and other positions in the West cause the whole operation which was predicated on speed and surprise tactics was completely lost after the commander of the Midwest operation Colonel Victor Banjo, decided to sabotage the whole operation for personal interests - Banjo all along was in communication with Lagos, and had no interest in capturing Lagos in the first place (which was Ojukwu's objective for invading the Midwest ab initio).... So in essence, Biafrans were ordered to retreat back to Benin instead of staying put and fight..

I don't like to argue pointlessly, if you want me to educate you with substantial materials( books, articles, interviews etc), then say so and I'll gladly indulge you... I don't want to waste myself arguing blindly.

So you expected Banjo to kill his own people? What a way of thinking

grin this Nairaland made it look as if it's just Igbos and Yorubas that are here. Whereas there are many people who are from different ethnic group posing as what they are not to cause problem

Afonja and noise, why not take a picture of the rusting armored tank and show us? If you ever picked up a book about the war and read( besides regurgitating the same rubbish war tales you heard from idiots who didn't even participate in the fighting), you would have known that Biafran soldiers successfully captured Ore, Okitipupa, and were just few miles from crossing the ofosu Bridge which was later blown up by the retreating Federal troops... thus delaying the Biafran advance beyond Ondo axis. But most significantly, Victor Banjo was the main reason the Biafran advance lost momentum, Ojukwu's biggest mistake in that war was giving command of a very important operation in the Midwest to a yoruba man to capture Lagos... that's like giving command of a legion of demons to the Devil to destroy hell fire - plain daft and Illogical expectations, maybe Ojukwu trusted Banjo too much, but surely he should have known better... Victor Banjo ordered a complete halt of all Biafran units in Ore, and by then the momentum of speed and surprise which the Biafrans used to their advantage was now totally lost, it wasn't long after that the Biafrans began to retreat from Ore back to Benin and consequently across the Midwest back to the East after they had lost the will to keep pushing and fight.

So the Biafran failures in Ore wasn't down to some military genius by the cowardly yoruba/Nigerian soldiers who actually lost Ore and fled, it was simply a classic case of treason within the Biafran high command in the Midwest, willfully masterminded by a Yoruba officer with collaboration from some anti-Ojukwu enthusiasts like Sam Alale and Ifeajuna in sabotaging the whole operation in the Midwest and Western region. And that was why Ojukwu had Victor Banjo and his collaborators summarily executed for their treachery.

And which book did you read that informed you that ojukwu's rag-tag soldiers actually took Ore before retreating? And moreover, like someone posited, how do you retreat from a battle-field that you are already winning? Also, which one of your ydiotic elders did you hear this platitudes from? And you swallowed the illogical statement, hook line and stinker without engaging your cognitive cells?

At any rate, Colonel Oyinlade Iluyomade, a retired veteran of the civil war clearly stated how he led 179 soldiers to stop biafran troops at the Ofosu bridge.

This meant that their next target was the West. So I was told by then Colonel Olusegun Obasanjo, who was the Commander in Ibadan, to move to Ore border, which is about 19 miles to Ore village. Then, I moved there that night but I told Obasanjo that I was ill-equipped to curtail the Biafran attack. What can 33 soldiers do? So, he promised to reinforce and he did keep to his promise. Then, our total strength grew to 179 soldiers to defend the place.

I had premonition of danger and when I got to Ore, I deployed my troops towards the Western region. The bridge at Ofosu was the boundary, so I went ahead to survey the area to know the mountainous and forested areas. And I deployed my troops, so if there would be an attack on the West, they would have to cross the bridge. So I safeguarded the bridge and gave my troops instruction not to allow anybody cross over. By that time, there was an instruction that I shouldn’t allow anybody into the West.

After deployment of troops, I rose up from my trench at about 12 midnight, it started to rain heavily, but I told the troops not to leave their trenches. So, we dug in. Then, when I saw the skyline of the vehicles of the Biafran soldiers coming towards us, I shouted that no one should fire except me. And the battle started minutes past midnight. But the bridge was so heavy that they could not penetrate. If they had known that we had a small number, maybe they could have made the effort to penetrate. So we confused them, the place was well secured and we never lost any soldier.

Who led the initial attack on the Midwest n West that resulted in the capture of Ore n Okitipupa ? I figured you were quick to attribute that to Biafra soldiers but also qui k to blame Banjo for the defeat which is why I like to know why the credit of the Biafran soldier initial capture isn't accorded to the same Banjo that launched the surprise attack instead of the Biafran soldier n should it be the case of Banjo not being the one that led the initial attack do u know why he was hurriedly deployed cos its extremely rarely to withdraw a commander from war front he is succeeding ? Waiting to read from u.

Remarkably, the Northerners went to Ibadan and slaughtered the Governor of the Western Region, Lt Col Fajuyi. Yourubas could not do anything

The Northerners then moved to Lagos and chased away the Yoruba man who should have been the next president, Brigadier Ogundipe. Yorubas could do nothing

The Northerners the brought a much junior Gowon to rule from Lagos. Yorubas could do nothing

The Northerners held Yorubas captive in the own land. But when Ojukwu charged a Yoruba man called Banjo to go and liberate Yorubas, the same Yorubas were fighting Banjos forces in Ore

Yorubas fought to be loyal slaves to Gowon and his fellow Northerners and are even proud of this
What did you do to ironsi's death. Fajuyi only did what no igbo dead or alive can do for his own blood.

Abi o jare!!!

It took only 179 galant yoruba soldiers to stop ojukwu's biafran liberation front's offensive in its track. From then on, they were always back-peddling back to their erosion-ravaged region. Meanwhile, ojukwu, the cold-hearted, hollow chest-beating orangutan look alike was busy chanting "on Aburi we/I stands".

Even as the same people he was ostensibly fighting on their behalf were dropping dead like flies from starvation, he refused to back down. Not until his own inept neck was on the noose did he finally fled in search of peace (sic!)
