The Lagos State Government on Monday the 27th of January 2020 proscribed the operations of okada and tricycle riders in six local governments and nine local council development areas of the state.
The government, while directing security operatives to embark on total enforcement of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, also ordered that the riders must not ply 10 major highways and 40 bridges and flyovers across the state.

That's not true, in fact up till year 2005 we don't have okada riders on our major roads in Lagos. So, if government banned them nothing will happen and majority of the riders are northerners, they can go back to Kano kaduna etc for their okada business.

Every Nigerian has freedom of movement

Majority of okada riders that are northerners don't ride outside LGAs. You'll see most only within areas. Those that go long distance are either westerners or easterners.

How many aboki ride Gokada and co?

People don't always like changes. But as time goes on, and with dedication to enforcement by our security agencies, people will have no choice but to get use to it. These bike riders brought this upon themselves. Their excesses were becoming too much in lagos . Some of them used these bikes to rob and commit all sorts of crimes. Some of them don't know anything about traffic rules and regulations, yet when involved in an accident will call their colleagues to manhandle you and damage your car. I have no pity for them at all. Uber all the way. The rest I will rather walk. And to those of them threatening to go into full time criminality, I wish them all the best.

The ban is targeted against the North
Because they are the okada riders in Lagos.
Re: Okada Men In Tears As Lagos State Bans Them From February 1 by Nobody: 5:52am On Jan 31, 2020
You cant blame the Govt really.. mini bus, keke, okada is just a handful coupled with the population influx of riders from war torn regions.

You couldn't have said it better. They had it coming. Their Union ought to have cautioned their riders long ago but they never did. Opay and the likes started with responsible riders who kept to the side on the road. Now I guess massive profits is the order of the day. Opay gives it's bikes to just anyone. The bikes now oppress and intimidate other road users. Sanity needs to be restored to the highways.

It's obvious the Lagos state government don't care about the poor masses.... Do they know how the common man go about his daily business in the mainland? People living along badagry road but have to come into town everyday for their daily hustle. That road is not motorable especially during rainy season. These guys depends on bike for easy movement despite the risk. Now the government wants to ban their only means of transportation..... So many people will sure lose their jobs and a lot will fall sick due to stress and so much more. The people in government are just insensitive.

Best decision so far, any one that is not please with the law and not an indigene of Lagos State, shu return back to his state in peace or find another source of income.

So many ppu writing rubbish on the govt decision shu tell me how come Okada ban has been in existence in Enugu town over a decade and d ppu don't die. Kano is one of the most populace state in naija and there is ban on Okada over 7yrs now yet ppu are there living their life.

Abuja also has ban on Okada and keke in some certain area and the country didn't break, but whenever Lagos take decision on certain ppu that is wen we will remember that some ppu will turn to robbers, even with d Okada some of them still rob. I lost my fine last yr September to Okada rider at Sabo Yaba I watched him rode off and there is nothing I can't do, so shocked I was dumb and terrified.

The truth is the Okada rider av outgrown their normal usage, you need to see how they ply one at Yaba area freely without any iota of fear or value for their life. Let call a spade a spade Okada rider have a lot of excesses that one can't see until you become a victim.

Any one that want to result to crime shu do but also prepare to do the time, when ever the law enforcement lay hand on them.

Anyone who feel aggrieved by lasg to ban okada/Keke rider in some places should sue Lagos state govt.

These guys should get out of Lagos state. Special team of neighborhood and task force /nscdc not police they r corrupt) should be on the outlines lgs for defaulters.

Their Okada confiscated and the passenger arrested.
These guys should go back to wherever they came for.

We are tired to this nonsense in Lagos.

Someone up there said Okada saves life in the case of traffic.
They are the major reason for traffic congestion in many places. So they need to get out of Lagos road

You should provide alternative means of livelihood for them. Open up farms and mechanize it for them.

Otherwise, the security challenges of Lagos will triple before mid-year.

On what ground? How many of them are Lagosian?
How many businesses has been set up by other states that ban okada? Let's not be sentimental about this issue. Lasg did the right thing

Governance is about the people, just in case you don't know.

There are many people who make a livelihood through that means and who are also "Lagosians" as you call it.

Who are Lagosians, if I may ask?

What you don't understand is that, as long as people are busy in the day time, gainfully employed, they'll be too tired to go out at night and rob.

You want to learn this the hard way?

That policy, while it seems a step in the right direction for the safety of the people is not well thought out.

Even if it is just Lagosians, let the government help them with a soft landing.

Put yourself in the shoes of the okada man who has to go home empty handed every night.

I get ur point. So u mean Lagos state govt should keep empowering the unnecessary massive influx of non indigene?
If they want to rob let them go ahead. Lagos state is just one state out of 36 states in Nigeria. She knows what's good for her.
Like I said if anyone is aggrieved, goto court and challenge the decision. Very simple. Lagos is not the first state to ban okada and it won't be the last

Lagos bans Okada. If you can't find a way to cope, leave Lagos and go back to your village or something. People against this ban haven't gone to hospitals to see the casualties caused by reckless bike and tricycle operators.

Calm down Mr Oga. I understand your point. The continued influx of people into Lagos state keeps straining the resources.

I get that.

So what do you do? Ban people from traveling into Lagos state?

I dont think so.

That's why the agitation for a Yoruba nation is very important, but people don't wanna hear it.

People will keep migrating to Lagos without a job and the security of lives and properties of so-called Lagosians will be at stake.

You can't wish that away.

True..... But banning okada/riders as a wish of lasg shouldnt be treated with emotions. There are times we av to be ruthless. Stricts measures sometimes is necessary for development.

Lagosians should gear up and expect the unexpected. That's it.
