US Embassy Denies Bishop Oyedepo Visa

A mild drama, Thursday, played out at the Lagos office of the Embassy of the United States as the founder of Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State and Living Faith Church Worldwide, otherwise known as Winners’ Chapel International, Bishop David Oyedepo was denied visa.

But an ace comedian, Abovi Ugboma, popularly known as Bovi was lucky with the embassy as he was issued the visa.

However, his wife, Kris Asimonye, was not as lucky as she was denied the travelling document.

THISDAHY gathered that the embassy did not give any other reason except the standard default explanation that the Bishop did not qualify for visa renewal in its assessment and urged him to try again.

Heaven was, however, let loose, when the obviously flustered preacher and businessman, created scene whilst querying the grounds for his refusal.

Insider said he told the embassy he had been traveling to the states as far back as 1980s and had not violated any rules or committed any crime to have warranted being denied a renewal of his visa.

According to the source, he immediately sent for his bodyguards to get his phones so he could make some calls, but the embassy allegedly told him he could not make calls within the precincts of the visa-issuing section of the embassy.

When THISDAY contacted the embassy for clarifications on why the popular Bishop was denied visa, a staff of the embassy in the media department, requested that an email be sent with the questions and promised to respond as soon as possible.

Curiously, the embassy, believed to be swift to responding to mails, neither acknowledged nor responded to the email sent since 5.05p.m. yesterday till the newspaper went to bed.

Embassy sources however hinted of the possibility that the popular preacher might have made some calls to individuals that would intervene on his behalf and the visa eventually issued.

In the mail sent by THISDAY, three questions were asked: “One, we understand that there was serious drama earlier today, when Bishop David Oyedepo was denied the US visa. However, because we could verify our facts from other applicants at the embassy today, our question, therefore, is on what grounds was a Bishop Oyedepo, known across the globe, denied a visa?

“Our sources in-house had also hinted that given his connection, the CG might likely be contacted and his visa might be issued eventually through a referral. If that’s true, why deny him in the first place?

“We also learnt that the trend of denying prominent Nigerians visa is rampant now, including the Abuja embassy. Is it part of plans to clampdown on Nigerians of a certain category and social status and on what basis?”

Fake News
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by CptCharlesVane: 1:23pm On Jan 31, 2020
Twoods that married for papers would blame Oyedepo for having criminal and immigrant tendencies. undecided The Supreme Court recently approved wealth test for immigrants ie. proof that immigrants would never have to use social services while in the US. Another day another hurdle. The other day they deported an Iranian student with a valid visa even with a court injunction for a stay.

So guys if you get a refusal, do not be too hard on yourself. Just do your best and also expand your options, I’m sure moving to the US would be easier from another country they do not have in their list.

There should be a breakdown of all the costs (tuition, health, books) on the i20 with which you can know if there's a deficit or not.
Also be double sure of the term his/her is to resume, as visa interviews for Fall 2020 resumption are till about 120 days to resumption date.

Good day everyone. I am new here. I have been following the threads and appreciate the information provided so far. Please, I need further clarification on the part of "visa interviews for fall 2020 resumption are till about 120 days to resumption". Does it mean you can only apply within that 4 months time frame or you should before that time frame or what?
Thank you.

What was the condition that came with your admission? Any GA offer and tuition waiver ? Deficits ? Etc.

If there’s any remarkable changes with admission offer, you can bring it to the VO’s notice...

what if you want to change your F1 to H1B after graduation?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Nobody: 7:36am On Feb 01, 2020
I will advice anyone going for interview to please prepare properly, the system is not friendly at all.
For those asking what this new visa ban has on Nigerians, it's very simple.. Nigerians will not be able to immigrate to USA on any conditions, even after your studies and you get a job and your status changes to H1-b you will not still be able to apply for a green card. Also we are banned from the lottery system as well. In my opinion USA is far fetched and does not want Nigerians migrating or immigrating in anyway.

Are you trying to say that people can no longer stay back in the US after graduating even if they get a permanent job?

Y'all are still giving US embassy your hard earn money.. If you are not very rich or part of the elite in the society with political pulling power, chances of getting a USA visa are very slim. Y'all should look elsewhere, USA isn't the only country in the world

All they want is your money..trump is not interested in giving Nigerian visa into his country. Student visa, business visa, all these thing cost heavy money..atleast 1.5 million and above to get a USA visa now. USA isn't friendly anymore, they don't want us there. Look elsewhere.
