Please, when you are done with the reports you have to submit, don't forget to share the lessons you learned about both views of the industry.

Thanks in anticipation smiley

Sure bro.

Because other countries has solved the most basic needs of life, they are open to development and this development do not come with much associated risks. Few (Germany) use nuclear as a starting point , while using the money to develop other alternative power sources whereas others are exploring the numerous benefits in NPP.

Nigeria for instance has lots of problems majority which are people based. Individual Nigerians outside the country are forced to comply with the system, to them, compliance is natural because they do not wish to go back to the country (Nigeria) anytime soon.

However, one dare not try the things in most civilized country in 9ja, else, you'd see the effect of large population of ignorant people. To be frank with you, there's nothing here that can't be done in Nigeria, but the effect of our perception to these things prevents it from happening. For instance, over hear, the Train, Tram, buses, etc. use same roads with each means of transport adhering strictly to rules and everything is moving on fine.

But in Nigeria, train ways care cited in areas that are not used by pedestals or cars. In cases (such as lagos) that the train passes through areas inhabited by people, one will experience high risks etc.

Back to NPP in Nigeria, first, there's a high risk of kidnapping of facility workers (not by government but civilians e.g herdsmen, militants, etc). This scenario alone presents a high risk level that must be dealt with. Secondly, risk of attacking the Facility. Public perception of NPP. And other numerous instances.

The Ganil Facility has two phases.

Ganil (Ganil 1)
Ganil Spiral2

The Ganil facility operated bases on circular transportation of ion beams. Ion beams in Ganil are produced via nuclear fission. The goal here is not to produce electricity, rather, to cause a stable target to fission by bombarding it with a projectile (alpha, deuterium, proton, etc). This causes the target to fission (separate into two fragments), thus releasing a lot of fission products in beam like nature (ion beams). This beams are then transported (the process of transporting them is the Spiral1(circular) and Spiral2 (linear), to the various experimental rooms.

Like I said before, everything is controlled in the control room and the purpose is to use the beam to study the nuclear properties of matter at such level.

One of the major breakthroughs of Ganil is the use of Carbon14 and proton instead of X-rays and gamma rays to kill cancerous cells and eye tumors

The most important differences between the two areas (phases) is that while in Ganil, heavy particles from Carbon to Uranium-238 are studied, producing intensity of up to 10^12 (trillions) of particles/seconds, in Ganil, lighter particles such as alpha, deuterium, and proton are studied two thus producing lots of particles per second, travelling 1/3 of the speed of light. .

The picture below is the ion beam production rooms.

1 & 2: Beam production room. The tiny straight pipes is the beam transport pipe. The green quadrangle is the magnetic Quadrupole used to focus the ion beams at the centre of the pipe in order not to interact with the steel rod used to transport it.

3&4 is the accelerator (very large that my phone camera could not capture even 1/4 of the entire Accelerator

Beams are sent to experiment rooms where different experiments are made using the beams and studied from the control rooms.

Pictures below are the experiment rooms.

I was amazed with the kind of electrical and electronic connections made here. One would wonder how the wires are connected. It is more complicated than you could found anywhere.

People wondered why they could go through the construction of a facility that is not used for any commercial purpose. The second phase of the spiral2 would cost 150m euros.

Sipral 2 are used for two purposes.

First, it is not yet ready for operation. It will start it's first ever operation in june 2019. The construction began in 2011 and has taken hundreds of millions of euros.

Spiral2 is located 10 meters below the earth surface grin grin and is used for:
Neutron for Science (NFS) where large neutron fluxes are generated and studied and used for electronic and energy applications.
Super Separator Spectrometer which helps to study heavy elements (much heavier than uranium) and would among other things lead to the discovery of new chemical elements and extend the Mendeleieve periodic table.

The facility works with the principle of superconductivity where liquid elements are cooled to few kelvin degree.

Unlike the Ganil facility, Ganil Spiral2 does not accelerate ion beans using a cyclotron rather, beams are accelerated and transported linearly through a 30m distance, thus increasing the intensity of beams and chances of interacting with the target.

Pictures 1 to 4.

A look through the 30m beam transport section. This region is 10m underground.

Remember the Spiral2 is used for two purposes, so in places where the transport unit is sent in two different directions, then you should know that each unit is used for one of the two purposes mentioned above.

Thank you very very very much. I swear your response gave me joy and made my day. I really appreciate it. But one more thing (sorry, am such an Oliver twist wanting more) sir, regarding that PTDF scholarship, is there anything that aide your selection or just luck? I need to know sir cus I will be applying next year.

it all depend on hard work and God grace. I got the scholarship in my second attempt. I tried in 2018 and 2019 respectively and both attended the interview. but I was successful in 2019. am 2.1 ( 4.44) and ACA.

Happy Sunday guys and remember it is a great world out there and our dear country is lagging 360 degrees behind.

By the time we wakes up, we would have realized how far others have gone and we will spend more money buying technology.

Have a great Sunday and warm wishes to you all.

@emboldened; No, I didn't even write the exam.

UI is a good school in Nigeria, I have a friend that just concluded his masters in Medical Physics. Why not go for material science? And focus more in Nanotechnology.

Regards
Where did you later do your master's?

Ok. You bought UI master's form without doing the exam?

Sorry for the numerous questions.
