Okada ban is part of the implementation of Amotekun in the SW, most of the unaccounted riders are from the Sahel regions of West Africa claiming to be Nigerians. I heard that most of the trailers leaving Lagos with hundreds of motorbikes and their riders are arriving Ilorin, creating an atmosphere of fear. Their first stop is close to the Emir Palace in Ilorin 4 Likes 1 Share |

Hades2016: The larger population constitute of okada and keke riders coming from all the states that have banned them. Okada situation in Lagos was and is still a disaster waiting to happen. Most of them do not even understand English and are always ready to unleash mayhem with dangerous weapons out of nowhere at the slightest encounter. One stabbed my colleague and left him permanently blind in his left eye till today. No address, no identification. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I am with Prof. Sagay on this one. There is too much lawlessness, was about time some orderliness was brought to bear. There was life before okada and keke, there will be life after them. No country or city can progress with that level of chaos and lawlessness. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Spot on! Yes, a census of these okadas and tricycles should have been taken with a view to plugging the gap once the ban came in place. That's the only issue I have with the ban. Anyone who opposes this ban based on some primordial fears or herd mentality thoughts have their brains reversed and set in 100 BC. Lagos is underperforming as a city, yet some anti-progressives want the status quo of hideous urbanisation, where everything goes, like an animal kingdom, to continue unabashedly. Lagos no be for every Taiye,Emeka and Gafaru o! If you can't shape up,abeg, ship out!!! 1 Like |

Once again. Here we are. The oeoole versus the goverment they elect " "WHO DONOT HAVE THE RESPECT TO CONSULT THEM BEFORE TAKING DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THEM. " I say it a thousand times... Is there something in the black psyche thay forbids consultation, negotiation, debates and agreements. What kind of democracy do we practice for heavens sake. Yes we have a security problem, a congestion problem, an environmental problem, etc but these donot affect goverment officials alone but everyone. So why can't the people be stakeholders in decisions that affect them positively or negatively. Why treat the people like those ruled under colonialism. Are town halls for political campaigns only, are legislators for show?... Must you condemn everything that does not work. A plane crashes you ban aircraft, bikes are used for robbery you ban bikes. This is juvenile thinking symptomatic of people.that cannot reason out problems. Believe you me for every single issue that led to the ban there is an alternate solution bordering on orientation, organisation, legislation, training, standardization, registration, etc that will satisfy all stakeholders if there is honesty in the whole concept and hardwork to see them through. I.was watching Arise this morning and the Gokada thing. Imagine a foreigner trying to find solutions while the locals are insistent on 'bush burning'. Look, in moving from a developing to a developed status we are going to be faced with an enormous number of socio-economic questions that will require a thought based leadership to solve them. To be brash, rash and mindless in handling them will just delay and stagnate the quest to move forward. Because those with ideas will be left out of decision making and inconsequential in developmemtal strides. Goverment should stop fighting the people it claims to serve. They are partners in developement not peons on a plantation. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Very funny. The poor should learn to fight for themselves. Until they do that I have no pity for them. Same people protesting against the bike ban would collect 5k to go and vote for the same govt that's frustrating them. 1 Like |

Goodyness: Then you might as well ban every social activity in Nigeria because nothing simply works. Why not ban the police because despite the bribery and harassment crime escalates, why not ban univerisity education because sorting and grinding remains rampant, why not close the ports because Apapa is a mess, etc and etc. Why not ban politics and politicians because 22 years after the return of democracy all indices are worse. My dear be more cerebral. This is not the way to make progress. We must learn how to think our way out of problems and innovate to develop. Take each component out of the machine of state and repair it. Let me let you into a little secret of success other nations understand. That is the concept of 'Incremental Improvement'. You hold a position and manipulate it until you get the best, then put it back into the fire, sit back and after a while modify it again. You will NEVER get anywhere in life it you continue from scratch everytime in your quest for perfection. Lagos state will never solve its transportation problem like this. 1 Like |

Residents aren't against modernization of the transportation system but the way and manner it was effected. Get systems in place call private stake holders partnership meeting with the government, release models so private investors can bring in these new buses that meets the policy standard and then effect a ban. Going out of the way to put a sudden halt to a thing that has been in play for 30-35years implies lack of tact in policy making. Modernized transportation like in London and Newyork is long overdue but the manner with which the government of Lagos takes decision and puts policies in place is a clear reflection of an autocratic/cult-run system where people are helplessly subject to an emperor. If we want any changes to any sector, please come up with blue prints, policy frame work, dead lines and news letter issued, involve private partnership as it's done in saner climes and before you know if 1000 person's can decide to buy the buses without the government seeking bond for acquiring it at exhorbitanf prices. So the government maintains the system, rules and policy framework, while the private sector manages the buses itself. Common sense applies Governor Sanwo Olu take note. Taking pictures at Harvard isn't good enough. Knowing isn't good enough, how we do matters. Damn Taking photos at Harvard doesn't make you an expert. 1 Like |
