yes,partho cucumbers will set fruit without pollination,it is the crop mostly planted in tight green houses that insects can't penetrate,so they use a variety that doesn't need insect pollination,but sadly the cos oft that variety is another story,I think more than ₦20k for 1000 seeds, imagine if we are using 50,000 seeds of that variety on the green seas project,the cost of seed alone mayl. cripple the project.

we nearly touched the magic figure but many other things distracted us,but we are planning to plant another site on Saturday to give it another shot before the rains will come,and we will combine cu 999 with a high yielding gynocieous variety like lion seed or Murano ,50/50 to increase yield

Please what soil substrate did you use in the Nursery Seed tray?

How regularly do you wet the soil substrate?

Did you fertilize with any chemical fertilizers?

Did you apply any insecticide or fungicide at this stage?

I recently got land close to river, whick kind of pump will u advise to irrigate farm in this case. The land is a little slopy into the river tor

Depending on your bargaining power and vendor, you can buy it between #30k - #40k.

10 acres for cucumbers alone!..
That's massive. I think by the time you successfully cultivate the whole 10 acres it'll no doubt be the largest staked cucumber farm in the country like you rightly said.

With our never ending quest to touch #500k from one plot of land we have reviewed our spacing and planting strategy and found loopholes after careful experimentation on a smaller farm we decided to shrink our previous spacing even further,the result is 3,190 crops in a land measuring 104ft by 51ft,and fully covered by 1000 meter's of drip tape and also we planted at 50/50 ratio cu 999(a proven old school monocieous variety) and lion seed popular f1 a high yielding PF variety,we have known this tight spacing will work now in the dry season,but another good question is will it work during the rainy season?I think the answer will be a capital NO!

leaf cutting insects could be bettles or caterpillars,any good insecticide will kill them off,it's nothing serious,if you are talking about whitefly,leaf miners or spider mites,now those are really stubborn pests.

I think grasshoppers and locust are the two main leave cutters in my farm.. I'm battling whiteflies at the moment, I mixed laraforce and ddforce.. it was quite effective on the whiteflies.. but not as much on the grasshoppers and locust.. it was also very effective on crickets

anything that is effective against whiteflies will destroy Hopper and locusts,we had similar problems once and found out that the hoppers are coming in from the bush,try and spray a higher dose of only laraforce gold any locust,Hopper or hovercraft that lands on the leafs will die.

That means I wasted space
