How about you ask the GC the deadline for submitting those documents. So you will have an idea of the timeline you would work with in making your decision.

lilfrancis100:

They didn't even mention anything about deadline. They only said I had been approved by the department and I have been chosen as a teaching assistant. They now said I need to send my official transcript, degree certificate and proof of funds.

Please who knows any school I can can apply for M.sc or PhD in medically related course (Biomedical Engineering/Biosciences, Medical informatics/Bioinformatics etc) without GRE??

TOEFL iBT: 100

Please I need our help!

Try and write GRE for funding.....just try.
The opportunities are endless of you have a gooq quantitative score of atleast 160. Most of your people from india, Bangladesh have GRE/Toefl
Toefl score to above 100 is very important....
GRE will open the doors of scholarships

And yes one of the greatest skill you can have now is python programming...most professors need to see that in your CV

Instead of looking through people transcript to pick holes.... why dont you open your mind to a balance view of things. The point for and the point against so that when you make a decision it is an informed decision . Not just for school but life in general

Not every arguement against a topic is about bitter, trash jealousy or some other stupid words people use easily .

Experience is usually the best teacher and it's very powerful sometimes hearing from other experiences. It makes you gain insight and learn what ever mistake or enhance your journey in life.

Nobody is picking holes. The young man or woman as made it a point of duty to discourage people from applying to the US which is not why we are here.

I only got to even know that he or she is already in the US from the quoted post.

If he has a personal issue with the US he should tell is his story and not come here to discourage others. Our destiny is not the same, where he failed I might succeed.

So it's not about picking holes .

Don't mind the guy.

He has posted up to 5 times, discouraging statements with no personal evidence. I wonder if he wants us to abandon our Admissions and Fundings just like that. Shuo!

I’ve picked up my passport, and my transcript is as follows:
School: Clark university
Course: Environmental science (MSc)
Funding: 40% tuition scholarship
Deficit: $35k
It was a long interview as I had to wait severally during the interview

Me: Good morning
VO: good morning pass your passport and I-20 please

VO: how did you find this school (whilst typing)
Me: it all started with a simple google search really, i (she cuts in)

VO: how many other schools did you apply to
Me: I applied to 4 and named them (brown university, northeastern university, university of Maryland, Bowie state university)

VO: how many admits?
Me: all except brown university

Vo: so why this one? Why Clark university?
Me: well apart from the scholarship I was offered I was particularly interested in methods and skills courses I’d be taking

VO: name one?
Me: well I’d be taking the advanced rastar geographic information systems course where I’d be taught using the idrisi software under the terrset series developed by Clark’s lab in clarkuniversity in 1987, it was recently remodeled in 2015 and I’d be taught how to use this software to develop.. (vo cuts in again )

VO: please hold on (gets on the phone and a superior appears and they turn off the microphone so I can’t really hear what they are saying and looking at the screen)
Turns back after a few minutes, with the superior still standing and both looking at me

Does your father have a valid B1 visa? (Looking at her screen)

Me: yes

VO: what is his name?
Me: tells

VO: what is his first name?
Me: tells all his names that I know

VO: WHAT IS HIS FIRST NAME!!(still looking at her screen)
Me: tells

VO: where does he work?
Me: tells

Vo: okay, do you have any relative in the U.S?
Me: yes, my uncle

Vo: where does he live?
Me: DC

Vo: Washington DC?
Me: yeah

VO: how did he become a citizen? When did he come to America? How long has he been in the states?
Me: I don’t know, he’s been there a long time before I was born

Vo: okay.. (Nods her head) excuse me please ( stands up and turns off the mic again and goes to the back and reappears a few seconds later)

Vo: what was your GRE score?
Me: verbal: 152, quant:150, and AWA: 4.0

Vo: that’s 302
Me: yes

All this while she was just looking at her screen and/or typing

Vo: are you married?
Me:no

VO: any kids?
Me: none

Vo: earlier on, you said you applied to university of Maryland, they have a stronger programme than Clark’s? So why not university of Maryland?

Me: No, not necessarily, also I will be doing a collaborative research at Clark university with the university of Maryland on 3 sites in Massachusetts, Virginia, and georgia state.

Vo: looks at me with one raised, eye brow through her glasses and looks back at her system and continues to type

VO: you said you had a scholarship?
Me: yes

Vo: so who will be paying the remaining deficit of $35k
Me: my father ( tells his name) he has worked for —-company for —- years (at this point she was already nodding her head Cos she was familiar with the name already)

Vo: okay I will be approving your visa
Collect your passport in 3 days

Me: thanks

Sorry to bother you
Does being married and having a child hinder ones chances of getting student visa??

Funny nobody in america has argued with me, it's always the know it alls who are in Nigeria
Someone argued that the saying that experience is the best teacher applies to fools because a wise person should learn from the experience of others.

Having said that, I believe the ban on IV will be lifted in no time, the time-consuming element would have been the e-passport requirement and we already have that. Even without this ban and the various strict measures this man is putting in place including the elimination of D/S hinted in the link above, getting an OPT or H1B employment was a tall order.

In any case, I think anyone coming should not be swayed as things change and you don't know what will happen going forward.

Sorry to have argued with you. All i needed was to know the difficulties you, PERSONALLY are facing over there. You said it some weeks back that USA is hard and we should avoid it. This was weeks before u posted this link. I have read the article and it has not been enforced.

Well said, but I still advice especially if you're forking out a lot of money, go to canada instead since its immigrant friendly so you can have a seamless transition and green card in 3 years, after which you can enter USA at your will

Yeah, the above is the best approach if you are coming for all these courses that are not technical and locals enroll in because you'll find it difficult to get a job that will sponsor you.

What if it's not lifted in no time? Would you advise your loved one at this point to take that risk with what you've seen and what you've known so far, and the possibility of a second term for DJT ?

Even if it not lifted, immigration is very complex and the answer to many questions are known from experience. How the new ban affects AOS is not clear at this time, and whoever gets an employer for sponsorship after studies would be adjusting status and not go through consular processing.

So, the idea that all hope is lost might not necessarily apply in some situations.

1. Stop putting blame on Trump adminstration. US Visas has always been laced with uncertainty. Canada n Australia hv always had a much clearer path for stay after schooling. So telling people that Canada is better than US... that's old news. U just came in last year, why didn't u go to Canada instead of US?

2. You paid a lot of money to school there. You hv a huge burden to succeed. And it is natural that any news that relates to bad immigration creates a huge burden for u. But I think u are beginning to pass your personal burden on other members of the group. To your credit, u had expressly said that people who are forking out a chunk of money should look elsewhere. Thumbs up.

3. Don't let these guys push u around. They don't have the man power to run that country and can NEVER shut the door on immigrants.

I know that as Nigerians we have personally ridiculed ourselves alot more than d whites ridiculed us.

Yes, maybe Nigeria is a shit hole. But Nigeria is that shit hole that can determine whether u will wake up n still be the world power tomorrow.

Nigerians should stop all these inferiority complex and start embracing the substantial amount of power we wield in the world politics. Americans hv d data, they know we too useful to them but in their immediate economy n on their grip on world power. Most of their African venture capital dollars is tied up in Nigeria, u really think they are stupid enough to close d doors?

The same country that banned u yesterday, basically appeased u with a check of $40M a week later n called it "humanitarian aid." That should tell u how important u are.

US has never been a place for non stem students. Aside this, relax, they can push us around but they can't push u too far...they hv a lot to lose too. UK tried but they came back begging with their tail between their legs. Also don't forget it's an election year, a lot of things will be political. Media houses probably don't like d guy n they will paint up stories. If u see d free money in assistantship, grab it!

Personally I have no qualms with Canada, I even applied to 3 schools there...but I don't just think I can tolerate any more cold.

It's a bumpy ride ahead, but hang on, nothing lasts forever.
