Another ignorant mofo...

Obasanjo ruled Nigeria for 3 years as military head of state and 8 years as democratically elected president (2 terms,4 year per term) ..Buhari spent less than 2 years as military head of state and is in his second term as democratically elected president.. that's 18 years altogether for both of them..still less than the 24 years Moi used to f**k Kenya..

And Cameroon are just our neighbour.. they aren't west African... East and southern Africa still has the biggest chunk of sit tight leaders in Africa...

Depends on your point of view.

Kenya has had 4 presidents since independence. All of them came to power via ballot. No single coup. Only minor electoral skirmishes (relatively speaking).

In the same period, Nigeria has had about 15 presidencies. 6 of those were via bloody coups. 6 were brutal military regimes. Several of them involved assassinating the sitting president. Lots of civilian executions (esp Abacha, the OG of executions). Dont forget between 1967 and 1970 millions of Igbos were murdered.

Moi was a dictator of lesser proportions. Whatever he did in his 24 yrs would land him an automatic spot in heaven if juxtaposed to what was done to Nigerians by their array of dictators in the same period.

Kenya's president Uhuru Kenyatta and High Representative for Infrastructure Development Raila Odinga at the US National Prayer Breakfast, at the invitation of Donald Trump and the US Congress.

As Keynote speakers, the two former political rivals used their BBI (Building Bridges) Initiative in Kenya to spread the spirit of reconciliation in the USA, to much applause in the chambers. Kenya always has something positive for the world.

Later, president Trump met the president of Kenya and struck deals, among them the introduction of direct cargo flights between Kenya and the USA.

Kenya makes all the global geothermal headlines when it comes to electricity development, and it’s no secret Kenya is quickly rising to the top as a geothermal leader based on activity and megawatts developed. But there is more to Kenya’s geothermal story than just electricity.

The Geothermal Development Company of Kenya (GDC) has began rolling out geothermal heating to farmers for use in their greenhouses and other farming ventures. Last year, using this technology, one farmer won the International Grower of the Year award in Germany.

Geothermal heated greenhouses will increase production per acre and reduce crop reject levels due to diseases, with the overall benefit being approximately 40% increase in productivity, as well as improved consistency in supply.

Besides the famous heated geothermal spa (Africa's only and largest), pilot projects have proved successful in heated greenhouses, fish rearing (heated aquatic ponds), milk pasteurization, geothermal operated laundromats, and pyrethrum drying, among others.

Successful GDC pilots to be rolled out include;

Img 1. Heated greenhouse: During the night, early morning and wet seasons, geothermal heated water at a temperature range of 50°C – 55°C is circulated in galvanized pipes to raise the temperature and lower the relative humidity inside the greenhouse. Temperatures are maintained at 28°C -30°C and relative humidity less than 85%. This in return ensures less fungal infections and consequently realization of bigger produce with less use of agricultural chemicals.

Img 2. Geothermal heated laundry demonstration unit : Geothermal heated water is directed to the washers and mixed with cold water to temperatures dependent on the type of clothes to be washed, while the dryer has a specially designed fan coil unit that uses hot water to dry the clothes.

Img 3. Heated Aquatic pond: Geothermal heated water flows into two demonstration units of aquatic ponds to maintain a pond temperature of 29°C in a flow-through water system. A single, small regenerative blower is used to aerate the ponds by pushing compressed air through diffuser tubing placed along the bottom of each fish pond. This temperature is optimal for the metabolism of the tilapia species of fish, leading to enhanced growth. The first batch of fish was harvested with an improved maturity period of six and a half months on average compared to the conventional eight-month maturity age for the tilapia species of fish.

Img 4. Milk Processor unit: Geothermal Development Company is currently procuring milk from the local dairy cooperatives to ensure continuous processing of milk using this geothermally heated pasteurizer.

Phase 1 of the Baringo-Silali geothermal power project.

The phase yielded viable steam towards the end of last year and is expected to inject 300 additional MW to the grid. This is one of 6 similar geothermal wells being drilled.

A Singaporean real estate firm is building an 8,888-unit multibillion-shilling mixed-use development in Mavoko, Machakos County, as it eyes a piece of the potentially lucrative but badly ignored low cost housing market in Kenya.

Singapura Developers says the development, which will be known as Habitat Heights, will host residential units ranging from studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units on seven [b]blocks of between 24 and 26 floors.[b]
Sitting on a 77.75-acre piece of land in Lukenya Hills, off the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, Habitat Heights will be completed in seven phases, gifting Mavoko a new Sh50 billion estate.

[b]Phase one of the project, which got underway last month, will be ready in 18 months.

The development land is owned by the UN Habitat and had been reserved for a UN employees’ housing scheme, but the Kenyan government signed a memorandum with the UN to release the land for use for the State-backed affordable housing scheme.

On completion, Habitat Heights will comprise 972 one-bedroom units, 2,912 two-bedroom units, 4,368 three-bedroom units, 60 shops and other facilities.

The prices for the houses have been set at Sh3.5 million (one-bedroom), Sh4.8 million (two-bedroom), and Sh5.8 million (three-bedroom).

The project is funded by the United Nations through the Habitat Heights Company.

Singapura Developers identifies Kenya as a promising market for such developments thanks to the country’s fast expanding population of middle-income earners.

“[b]We see Kenya as a big market based on the growing middle-class and also a high number of expatriates,” says Singapura’s chief investments officer Mahesh SK.

Habitat Heights Company becomes the latest entrant to the State-backed affordable housing programme, which seeks to build 500,000 homes countrywide in five years.

The scheme has attracted a host of foreign construction giants, including China State Construction Engineering – which is building 1,370 units in its Nairobi’s Park Road project. The company has already completed 228 houses.ESTATESingapore firm building Sh50bn low cost homes in Mavoko

READ: Big fortunes await sector as cheap homes project begins

Last week, Housing PS Charles Hinga said the government had signed deals with several British investors for the construction of 80,000 houses across the country.

The deals, which were signed during last week’s inaugural UK-Africa Investment Summit held in London, are a major boost for the affordable housing programme – which has been struggling to attract large-scale investors.

“During the UK tour, we managed to get potential investors for 80,000 units, 30,000 of them under Nairobi Urban Renewal and 50,000 as rental units,” Mr Hinga said.

Under the scheme, the government plans to demolish old bungalows and replace them with high-rise apartments in Nairobi to deliver affordable houses to residents.
