Barcelona beat arch-rivals Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup yesterday night in Salamanca. They will now face Real Sociedad in the final.

England international and former Barca striker, Toni Duggan fired Atletico into an early lead with a long range shot in the 3rd minute (0-1).

Barcelona almost scored immediately afterwards when Mariona attempted to lob the ball over the keeper, but ended up hitting the crossbar.

Alexia twisted and turned on the left wing and crossed the ball into the Barca area. It was headed out and Patri fired in a long range shot to draw Barca level in the 12th minute (1-1).

Atleti almost scored again after a beautiful exchange of passes between Charlyn and Ludmilla, but Charlyn’s shot hit the post and bounced back into play.

Norwegian winger, Caroline Graham Hansen, squared the ball in the 27th minute, it deflected off an Atleti player and found former world player of the year, Lieke Martens, who shot the ball into the goal to put Barca in the lead. This is Graham’s first game back from injury and it is Marten’s first goal since coming back from long term injury (2-1).

Martens then turned the provider as she dribbled her way down the left wing and squared the ball for Oshoala to head in Barcelona’s third goal. The goal was a replica of the goal against Sevilla in the league on Saturday. Lieke also dribbled down the wing and squared the ball for Oshoala to head in a goal on that occasion (3-1).

Charlyn completed a beautiful sweeping move by Atleti in the 61st minute as she slotted the ball into the Barca goal (3-2).

Asisat Oshoala held off several Atletico defenders to score an absolutely beautiful goal, but it was disallowed by the referee. You be the judge, was there anything wrong with this goal?

Barcelona held on to qualify for the final of the Spanish Super Cup by beating Atletico 3-2.

This game was the second in 5 games that Barcelona and Atletico will play against each other in a 4 month period. They drew 0-0 in the league on January 25th and they will face off again in the quarter finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League on March 25th and April 1st.

Women football matches will have more people in stadiums if the players are semi-nude or nude. They should take a cue from WWE.
