oyatz: Very bad idea. You want to form a mini Nigeria be that. Besides, I don't see the Igbos and the Yorubas in the same country after secession. The purpose of secession will be defeated when you bring unrelated people to form another country just because you want to eliminate the Hausa/Fulani. The Yorubas are well over 50million worldwide. They are enough form a country of their own without having to cope with cries of marginalisation from minority ethnic groups again. |

Chris1987:The Dutch that colonized South Africa were brutal and brought about apartheid. However, the ones in the Netherlands actually changed the laws to allow blacks from their carribbean colonies to migrate to Netherlands in the 1950's and the number now is about 500 thousand. The famous Black Dutch sportstars like Edgar Davids,Clarence Seedorf,Patrick Kliuvert,Ryan Babel parents were some of the first migrants from the Dutch Caribbean Islands to migrate to Netherlands. There is something wrong with with the African continent that makes leaders act mad. |

RuudVanNisteroy: Brother even Ghana boasts of 24 hours light .and yes I know they have progressive leadership. I have checked out their poverty rates and their poverty rates are really high. 55 percent of rwandans live on less than one dollar a day. Same as Nigeria. 60.4 percent of batswana and 50.1 percent of Namibians live on less than 5 dollars a day whereas even in Moldova , the shithole of europe 16.3 percent of people live on less than 5 dollars a day and Mexico that Americans look at as a shithole has 34.8 percent of people living on less than 5 dollars a day. |

urahara:Rwanda is recovering from one of the worst genocide in history and look how far they have come after 2 decades. They now have 24 hour electricity in most urban areas and have plans to provide every area with 24 hour electricity. Give them another 20 years under Kigame and they will the Singapore of Africa. Botswana has visionary leadership that have brought about a drop in the poverty rate even though it is still high. Don't ever compare Botswana,Namibia or Rwanda visionary leaders with Nigeria's present ruling bandits. It is like comparing darkness with light. 1 Like

They just need to maintain the current momemtum and foreign investors will continue to flood the country.Education receives the second highest allocation in the countries budget. BurnStoner:There is no social security payment made to the unemployed like in Western countries. Lagos state had good intentions, but went about it the wrong way. Crime is going to sky rocket in Lagos., you have thrown thousands of people into the streets, without a well thought out plan of what kind of employment you want them to engage in. |

RuudVanNisteroy: Based on current trends , in the next twenty years Rwanda gdp per capita will be merely $ 4,474. that of Singapore is 63,000 dollars. Foreign investment that is coming into Rwanda is not the kind that pulls surplus agricultural labor into more productive work. Most of the economic growth Rwanda is experiencing is service led mostly jobless growth. Rwanda spends about 7 percent of their budget on education , Nigeria spends around the same too. |

Very true. We chased them away too early and the country was run by dullards for over 40 yrs who knew NOTHING about governance. Now we have major roads and national monuments named after them. Rubbish. The reason why South Africa has a system that works is because they still have whites in control even though not directly ruling. The day whites leave SA, SA will fall just as Mugabe chased them away, today Zimbabweans are lameting We black Africans... only God knows how he take create us. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Re: How Nigeria Would Have Looked Like If Ruled By The Dutch by Nobody: 4:00pm On Feb 09, 2020 |
urahara:It all to do with leadership-Botswana,Rwanda and Namibia are the only countries that show the world blacks can run functional societies. South Africa leaders are fantastically corrupt just like Nigerian leaders and are running the country to the ground. The truth is that it was the whites that built all the infrastructure you see in South Africa to European standards. After they were handed power after apartheid they all wanted to become overnight and now corruption is a big problem in the country. |

FrLukas: It was a hypothetical postulation. It has nothing to do with eliminating the Hausa-Fulani. However, it's very possible for the 17 Southern States plus Kwara, Kogi, Plateau and Benue to live peacefully in one Country because most the people in such States share many ancenstral and cultural heritage. |

Re: How Nigeria Would Have Looked Like If Ruled By The Dutch by Nobody: 5:07pm On Feb 09, 2020 |
oyatz: I can assure you that all you would be doing is forming another Nigeria that won't work. The 17 Southern states as you call them have little in common. We can form different countries and then trade as neighboring countries of West Africa. But to be in one country? I am forced to ask if you are new on Nairaland. Otherwise you'll have realised by now that there is no love lost between the various ethnicities you want to jam together in one country. I'll just rather have all Yoruba speaking states in one country and have Yoruba and English as the Lingua Franca. |

RuudVanNisteroy: Do you agree that it will be easier to rule a smaller nation than a larger one? I am sure smaller nations states won't make the same mistake as Nigeria. And if we do, well we can only blame ourselves this time as there won't be other tribes to blame like it currently is in Nigeria. I'm not saying everything will be smooth, but at least we will know that there's no one else to blame but ourselves. |
