Trends and the future of ehailing business in Lagos state is all in the newspaper, any smart driver can gather all these info and see the future of ehailing in lagos state but many drivers here are short sighted instead of preparing for the future.

some drivers think that government officials are reading uber threads on Nairaland to create anti-ehailing laws..No, governmant oficials do not have time for that, they follow trends in other cities outside Nigeria to regulate the e-hailing business.

Uber and others has no operator license, the Lagos state government, under the Road Traffic Regulations on Taxi Operations, said that all taxi operators must get a license, classifying ride hailing operators under it. until when uber gets their operator lincense before Lagos state government starts taking them serious.

What ever you call yourself, ehailing or uber or taxify driver, you are a commercial vehicle drivers, and you must be certified by the Lagos Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) before you can operate in the state. The law is the law. what makes you special from others

If you like protest, go offline, nothing uber and others will do except making it a requirement to get LASDRI and other permits before you can sign on on their various plaform.

Lagos Government can allow Uber and others to go out of the state, they dont care, the lagos taxi union wins and they make more money for the lagos state government than uber , taxify and others combine.

Pls how do u identify an uber driver?

Lets assume that what the gibberish the impostor runner is saying is true. My question is;

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING IF YOU ARE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL?

By the way, who empowered VIO to arrest Uber drivers? What extant law has been passed? When will some of you ever have sense?

I don't blame them. Uber has been flooded by so many illiterates from villages who investors greedily went and pulled from there slums. They don't know there right from there left.

Even the issue being discussed is not even the jurisdiction of LASTMA. Why would LASTMA stop you to ask if you are an UBER driver? Do you people even know the job of LASTMA?

Are you guys aware that Police has no right to ask you for your drivers licence?

Lets even assume that am driving with expired papers. I will see LASTMA and start running?

You see why I said many people are just IMBECCILES walking the earth?
b]I ask again. Lets assume that its mandatory to get the LASDRI or whatever nonsense that thing is. Is it the Jurisdiction of LASTMA? Why are you running?[/b]

1-Vio can arrest Uber drivers if they dont have the necessary permit like hackney permit, they are empowered by the law because it is the duty of VIO to check commercial drivers like uber driver and others for Hackney/stage carriage permit
2-LASTMA can check if you have expired driving license and impound your car ( Driving without Valid Vehicle License LCG-13 2 5, 000 Impound Vehicle)
3-Police can also check your drivers license and arrest you if you dont have any, they can also arrest you for breaking traffic laws and over speeding.

Now here is what kills the law. Yellow cabs or danfo buses do they have lasdri?

Now following the trends in countries (developed and developing) the essence of uber is ride-sharing or pooling. As a tax payer is it a bad idea to ride-share my vehicle for a charge?

I think the Lagos state government is combating a trend that is dynamic. So you know people have been ride-sharing before the coming of uber and co.

I believe best approach is to make sure all drivers have a verifiable tax number and pay tax from income earned using the e-hailing apps.

Apart from causing a surge of unemployment, it will also put money in the wrong hands by way of bribes if officials keep clamping down on vehicles.

U r VIO agent and I am putting it straight to you that as long as uber uses private plate number, then you have no right to arrest them, go ahead with government and put law in place that check mate that. First shut down uber operations and see if that won't mark the end of the madness, rather then going about threatening drivers that have done nothing wrong... To show your level of slowpoke, it took you 3 good years to realize this, what have you been doing all these years? The Lagos state traffic law was brought into existence during Fashola era when Lagos state lost at the courts against the transport union. The court stated that lagos govt can not enforce witout an existing traffic law.

The push to clampdown or enforce revenue E-hailing is one that should be looked at carefully.

The law of the land prevails; all its takes is for the government to make a policy whenever ready.

To be fair, when you do business in a society, you’ve got to be subject to their law(s).

No matter what argument we have on here, LASG wouldn’t have anything to lose blocking Uber’s IP address and taking them off Lagos state, granted Uber doesn’t comply. There’s no justification that you aren’t a commercial when you use your car for commercial purposes; let’s not attach emotions to things.

It’s a win win for the government either ways.

Pray Uber complies and the issues sorted else don’t wait till you’re used as a scape goat.

1- Yes Yellow buses do have LAsdri because they are commercial buses

2-It is not a crime to ride share but know they when you start to ride share your private car for cash, you have now commercialize it, if arrested when picking up passegers, you will be asked for permit to operate a commercial vehicle... drivers of commercial buses and taxis are also tax payers.

yes, people have been ride sharing before uber all over the world but they needed a permit to operate, even private taxi operators in lagos before uber needed a permit to operate.

Best approach will be for Uber and others to come clean and tell the government that they are taxi operators and get the necessary permit instead of claiming they are connecting people. all uber and others stubbornness and deceit will lead to the suffering of drivers on their platform, lagos government has leverage, uber are at their mercy no mattter what they print on paper. they will have to bow down to government at the end of the tussle.

You have said it all "Government "... Let them make d law and the right thing for any citizen to do is to abide by it. If they choose to ban uber tomorrow, so b it. But for one overzealous officer to take the law into hand, shows him/her to b a coward. Yes! They can go ahead and muscle ppl cos they have uniform on them, but they should understand they don't wear the uniform to bed. Northerners just didn't wake one morning and start throwing bombs. you are not a smart individual, just because uber is registered with CAC does not mean they have license to operate in the transportation business

CAC does not come with a license, CAC is just for registration of business, it does not give licence operate in the transport business

this is what you do not understand, we have 36 states in Nigeria, each states with their law and licenses, with what is going on, each states can decide to make Uber collect license before they can operate in their states, that will be disastrous for uber

I wish we would really understand how Nigeria really works ...

Nigeria is a lawless country where anyone in uniform can choose to do anything and nothing will happen except the victim has a personal connect.

All these, there is no law, no policy, vio, lastma, frsc has not right to do this and that can only work in a sane environment ... Nigeria is far from that.

I have personally witnessed where a man stop for traffic light and while waiting for the light to turn green, just checked his phone note he wasn't even making call...was just checking his phone and was arrested by FRSC for using his phone while driving. Is that normal?

If any rogue vio, lastma or whatever catches any driver and impound the car for being Uber. If the Uber driver doesn't have a personal connect that can help him....at the point he's helpless. .being stubborn and trying to prove your right cannot help u... that's Nigeria.

Leave what ought to be and let's face what we have

It's not the job of police to check your papers but they still do it anyways.. If u don't have a strong backup. .u wouldn't even dear to tell a police man why are u asking for my papers ..is it your job?

I just smiled enter my car and zoom off. I drive an 09 corolla. All die na die and something must kill a man. Let this government continue pushing and let’s see who will lose most in the end
