And the Students voted him as their president the same way we vote in charlatans and cultists into power in Nigeria. Our electoral system needs serious reforms. Nigerians like to vote in people as long as say na their man irrespective of his character.

I have since bided good bye to voting in Nigeria. I cant be part of people that put in unserious politician to power. Until a sound and good leader comes up to contest for an election, then I will go and vote.

As long as the options available are same people, I doubt if I could still go and queue on a line to vote in charlatans.

The issue is not just joining an occult, but being a member of an occult known to commit crime.
but we are releasing bokoharam members and tagging then repentant.
For the records Muslims have the potential to become radicalized and end up as terrorist but that does not mean we should lump all Muslims together and tag them as criminals.
Joining a cult group is an age long practice and as long as the individual members of the group operate within the confines of the law ,nobody should criminalise them.
We have the ogboni fraternity, the Illuminati, the buccaneers and so many other cult groups operating in the world and individuals and so many politician and big business people are all members. As long as you dont commit crimes in the name of belonging to a cult group you are good to go and you have done nothing wrong

that's one problem I have with some laws.

once anyone is redhandedly caught in cultism, robbery, kidnapping, killing, they should just be charged, and court should just order them to be killed instan.

Then that means almost everone will be arrested and sent to prison.

Christianity and Islam are cults.

The cult of Christianity.

The cult of Islam.

I supose you meant all those cults involved in criminality and heavy handed violence ought to be charged and prosecuted in accordance with common law.

If that is what you meant, then i agree.

In the world today,we have the illuminati, the ogboni fraternity, the buccaneers who even have news paper adverts and many politician and business people are members of these groups. They have their reasons for joining the group but as long as they don't commit crimes in the name of occultism they are good to go and have not done anything against the law.

Is joining an occult against the law of this country? For the fact that they were not caught murder I see reason. Why the police should parade them as criminals.
Have they done worst than what bokoharam and herdsmen are doing and yet the federal government is pampering them.
Lets be reasonable for once and stop allowing emotions to detect our thinking. There is freedom of association in this country.

Seriously freedom of association... in Nigeria? grin
Abeg.... We're in a lawless country, forget the constitution for now,
These cultists guys are one of the problem of Nigeria, they evolve well in the political sectors, that's why they do anyhow, because they have high authority backup somewhere..... And there is a big difference, Boko haram is a terrorist group while cultists is a secret society with bad motives, but it's like you've never experienced the horror of these cultists guys, because if you do, you won't even dare to mention freedom of association grin

No, joining a cult isnt against the law.

If it was, almost everyone would be in prison.

The real problems are the misguided youth that engage in senseless violence as well as the cults of Christianity and Islam.

I wondered about the same thing too.

How is it criminal if they weren't caught commiting a crime?

If the NBM inscribed on their attires is what I think it is, they identify as a registered group and have rights to congregate whenever and in whatever attire.

So, where is the crime?!!

The law will tagged them unlawful gathering

the crime is being part of a cult (or secret society). It is punishable under the criminal code of Nigeria (3 years for just being a member).

cults are not proscribed foolish one. They are associations and many politicians and business people are part of it. The fact that cultist have committed crimes does not mean that all culitist are criminals. We must be careful to make the distinction.

it is against the law. The fact that the law isn't enforced because we are a crime-justifying society, doesn't mean there is no such law. Check the criminal code.

because they have members in government and the police. They would defend it the way you are here defending cultism that has destroyed the lives of many Nigerian youth.

The problem with Nigeria isn't the lack of laws but the lack of a collective will to enforce them.

Take a look at the related laws (chapter 9 - unlawful Societies and chapter 10 - unlawful assemblies) and tell us if the cult this SUG guy was caught being a part of doesn't fall in this category of unlawful societies.
