ObodoNaija: Visit Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, Wiley and Springer publishers....they have top quality journals in almost all field. As a researcher, you must learn how to search for information which you must have done during your literature review. Quality journals should share the majority of these characteristics: 1. Well known and reputable publishers 2. Indexed in recognized, verifiable databases such as SCI, SSCI, AHCI, MCI etc and found in WOS. 3. The Journal follows standard review system (single or double-blind peer review platforms) 4. Editorial members of the journals are respected academics from reputable universities widely spread across the continent So find journals in the above-listed publishers, check if the journal aims, scopes and nature of article published are related to your manuscript, read the authors guideline and follow that to format your manuscript, register with the journal and submit your manuscript. jeswinner: The proposal should be what you wish to do during your PhD. We don’t know it, only you know it. Come up with a rough skeleton of your intended research, visit google scholar, Elsevier, Taylor, springer and Wiley and type the keywords in your proposed research and check out related published work. Download a few of them, dissect it to understand how they’ve done it, the methodology used and parameters or theories researched. Check the shortcomings, challenges faced and look where you can come in to provide solutions to the knowledge gap. Jolt down and re-plan to see if you will be introducing new methods, or if you will be providing cleaner solutions, low-cost alternatives or performance enhancements in existing services/products. Google sample proposal, couple all your skeletons sketches and form a sound proposal. Don’t copy and paste and don’t take others work without credit. Ensure your proposal has general elements such as brief introduction, the problem, existing solutions (with references), you may highlight the current shortcomings/weakness, your approach (methodology), implications and proposed outcomes. Scientific, economics, societal, environmental and general benefits. You may also highlight the current skills you have to support your proposed approach. Check and proof ....that’s is it... you did it! 10 Likes 2 Shares |

kunlesmiles: Well done, you have shown good interest in research, I will encourage you to do more. You are an exceptional researcher and I really want to be like you. My Master's degree thesis was on "Silver Nanoparticle-Assisted Adsorptive Desulfurization by Composted Agro-Waste Activated Carbons". Now, I will assist you in this regard to put you through how to publish your master thesis. So I will need a few things from you and you can follow these steps to polish your master thesis to make it suitable for publication. First answer the following questions: 1. Do you have the raw data for each experiment? 2. How many times do you carry out each experiment for the parametric effect? 3. Do you have an effect of dosage of adsorbent, treatment time, initial adsorbate concentration, pH effect, solution temperature, desorption/reuse cycle experiments> 4. Which characterization did you perform on your adsorbent? You have FTIR, SEM, EDS, TGA, XRD, XPS (just list what you did in this regard) 5. Tell me how many isotherms (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Toth, etc) you have in your thesis? 6. Tell me how many kinetic models you fitted your experimental results with (Pseudo-ist, Pseudo-2nd, Webber, intraparticle etc)? 7. Any thermodynamic results? 8. Which software did you use for graphical? So if we have the above results, then that really great..we can proceed smoothly. If not, tell me what you have, then I can tell you which to determine and calculate. If all is set, I will send you a structured pathway to reduce you thesis into a article-like format of two proposed journal to publish your work, ensure your plagiarism is far less than 10% when you want to send me ready work and language is suitable for publication. I will read, make corrections, enhance your work if need be, and submit your work. If you have access to a lab, while the current manuscript is being submitted for publication, I will give you other work on related to subject to start and then you can understand more. I believe through this pathway you will learn how to do proper research, learn how the publication is done in a reputable journal. With two more, you will be able to stand on your own and teach others and carry on with your career. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Ujawissy: Congrats and am happy to hear this. There is a tonnage of research you may be able to do. However, if you don't mind some time to foot your research cost then that will be fine due to lack of facilities as you earlier said. If you are interested in Renewable energy that is very good. Will you be interested in Energy conversion/storage/production system? 1. like conversion of sunlight into electricity via a flexible mobile solar cell 2. Supercapacitor for energy storage just like a battery but more efficient 3. Microbial fuel cell to treat wastewater and produce bioelectricity? 3 Likes 2 Shares |

wip7:Thank you Prof. This part of my PhD work, for which I am expecting a date for my external oral defense. This research was carried out to unravel the extent of contamination, sources, and potential risks (Ecological and health risks) associated with environmental media, in Anka, Zamfara State Nigeria. In this study, soils, stream sediments, mine tailings, and plants were collected from the area, while control samples were collected from area with no mining activities or anthropogenic activities. Samples were prepared (air-dried, pulverized and sieved) in the laboratory, digested using aqua regia and other acceptable techniques. 1ml Digestate were diluted to 50ml and analysed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer and ICP-OES. Mineralogical contents were determined using XRD. Contamination assessment was calculated using pollution indices such as: geo-accumulation index (Igeo), enrichment factor (EF), contamination factor (CF), contamination degree (CD) and Pollution load index. Sources of metals in the media were unravelled using statistical techniques such as the bivariate correlation and principal components analysis (also known as factor analysis) Ecological risks were calculated using the methods proposed by Hakanson (1974), while the health risks were calculated using the method proposed by USEPA (1989). Results revealed media in the area have high concentration of toxic metals especially Pb, As, Hg, Cr and Co which are far above recommended world standards and their concentrations in background samples. It was unraveled that soils, sediments, tailings and plants in this are extremely contaminated by heavy metals. The study further revealed that intense weathering of minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, and chromite mined in this area contributes significantly to the accumulation of metals in soils, sediments, and tailings in the area. Mineral mining and processing also contributes to toxic metal in the media. Bioaccumulation assessment revealed that metals in plants are highly mobile and originate from the soils. Furthermore, aerial deposition of contaminated aerosols plays important role in the absorption of metals through their stomata. Ecological risk revealed that the ecosystem is under a severe threats from these metals, and may be hazardous to both living and non-living components of the ecosystem. Health risks revealed that adults and children are exposed to non-carcinogenic diseases such as kidney and heart diseases, through ingestion, inhalation and dermal contact with the contaminated media. Also both the old and the young are have tendencies of having cancer causing diseases. Risks in children are higher than those of adults due to their low resistance powers. Studies such as that if Ogabiela et al. 2016 and Adewumi et al. 2019 in the area have shown that heavy metals stores up in blood, hairs and nails of children area. It was observed during this study that children and women constitutes 60% of those in artisanal mining in the area. Report by Doctors with boundaries in 2010, a French organization showed that about 400 children were lost in Anka LGA just in one day due to Pb posioning outbreak. We recommended that total remediation and further epidemiological studies be carried in the area. Thanks and God bless our hustlings. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

kingjoe: Hi, Kindly look up, I have given detailed steps to follow for a research proposal, follow the same steps. The proposal should be what you wish to do during your PhD. We don’t know it, only you know it. Come up with a rough skeleton of your intended research, visit google scholar, Elsevier, Taylor, springer and Wiley and type the keywords in your proposed research and check out related published work. I just did for you in the mention websites: energy efficiency in residential buildings You can see that over 200,000 research articles have been published in terms of energy efficiency in residential buildings. Its quite easy to search, download, read and follow steps above. That's how it is done. A potential PhD student must learn how to use a wide array of sources to find details/information for their research. See the screenshots, follow it and read, then come up with what you intend to do and from reading you will come up with your own angle and develop it. Best wishes 6 Likes 2 Shares

wip7: Sir please advise, I am surprised to see my full thesis which I have just converted and sent to a journal for publication at goodslide.org, though I know I have previously used the full thesis for PhD applications in the past. I never gave them the consent to share the thesis. I am afraid that it may affect my publication. What do you think I should do? 2 Likes |

strangest: Kindly email them to drop it or you will take legal actions. If you have sent your manuscript for publication to journals in Elsevier, Taylor, Springer, they won't accept from initial submission due to their strong plagiarism software. As far as I know, top journals in these publishers run 2-3 plagiarism tests before sending out for reviewing, during peer review and after acceptance before publication. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Good evening most respected Prof wip7. I am a young academic in a Nigerian university. Publication is a must for any staff that wants to grow and it must be done in reputable journals such as SCOPUS, SCI etc. I searched through and noticed that many of those journals charge very high. Please kindly recommend journals with high impact factors in Telecommunications/Physics where I can publish for free or with less cost. Regards 3 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Thread For PHD Students by wip7: 9:49am On Feb 13, 2020 |
PaulErungworo: Hi, 98% of Journals Published by Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, Willey is indexed in Scopus, Clarivate (SCI, SSCI, MCI, AHCI, SCI-E) and WOS; they are reputable and have reasonable impact factor/CitScore, widely recognized and are free to publish. During Publication select just Subscription-based not OPEN ACCESS. In our lab, we have published over 100 reputable articles without paying KOBO via these publishers. Just search based on your keywords in the above-mentioned publishers. I just did as an example for you below: You will see that Elsevier has 55 journals published with keywords related to Telecommunications, I went through all the 55. From the website of each of this journal, 97% are free to publish with sound impact factor and all also support open access. So do the same and do also for other Publishers mentioned above. Prof, Greetings! My research interests are: 1. Effect of Phytochemicals on visceral organs of humans (I use Wistar rats as models) 2. Effects of Phytochemicals on cancer developments 3. Applications of Nanotechnology (Nanochips) on Cancer diagnosis and Treatment (I'm yet to start on this because I'm not attached to a laboratory for now) Prof, please how is the best way to design these works (softwares etc)? Do you have any related works or topics in these areas that you will like me to develop? I'm highly interested in these fields or any other Medically-related research. Thanks for your anticipated response. |
Re: Thread For PHD Students by wip7: 3:14pm On Feb 14, 2020 |
ProfDave123: Your research area is quite impressive. I have couples of PhD students working on functionalised polymeric biomaterials to check their anti-proliferative activities against human lung cancer, skin cancers and breast cancers. To do this type of research, you must have access to labs to undertake Cytotoxicity assay tests, Ex-vivo human skin permeation studies, Cell viability assay (MTT assay). Also, you must be able to apply and have access to the following: UV–Visible spectroscopy, FE-SEM, EDS, TEM, XRD and FTIR analyses to characterize your prepared anti-cancer materials. Basically what we do: we blend various drugs, metal oxides or plant extracts with anticancer activity, such as doxorubicin, paclitaxel, platinum complexes and medicinal plants containing curcumin, resveratrol and gallocatechin etc with a biocompatible polymeric solution such as chitosan, pullulan, alginate via a carefully designed encapsulation strategy. Then we perform In-vitro release studies, Cytotoxicity test and Ex-vivo human skin permeation studies to understand the inhibition rate of the cancer cells and toxicity to normal cells. I believe human skins are easier to get from the Hospital, you may look at various polyphenol-based plants around you and see if you can extract Curcumin. Curcumin is a natural polyphenol compound that has extraordinary intrinsic properties such as anti-inflammation, antibacterial, and anticancer activity and blends it and tests its efficacy on various skin cancers. What do you think? 4 Likes 4 Shares |
