Scientific theory: an explanation of an aspect of the natural world that can be repeatedly tested and verified in accordance with the scientific method, using accepted protocols of observation, measurement, and evaluation of results.

Fallacy: the use of invalid or otherwise faulty reasoning, or "wrong moves" in the construction of an argument.

Nice way to contradict yourself in just one sentence

Bible thumpers will tell you the earth is only 7,000 years old

One even told me 2,000 years. Can you imagine?

It's sad, men.

Some amongst us look like humans but baboons are far more intelligent than these jokers.
Too sad, most of them have made their brains useless. Ordinary photosynthesis graduates from universities can't explain again. Soon they would say how do scientist know the composition of water

Are you one of those biblical people who believe that the Earth is just "2000 years old"?

I hope not. Lol

It is not about believing the bible on how old the world is but what is the criteria used by scientists to calculate how old the remains this dead animals? It is not a matter of lol. Educate me please

Can they even spell photosynthesis to start with. Explaining it might be too big a task to accomplish.

Look at the comments. They are simply nauseating. To think this forum is global.

What would people think of us?

I am really ashamed. Sometimes when whites give racist remarks on blacks, I just laugh because deep down we gave them the opportunity to do it.

You still did not answer the question.

How do they know that the fossil up there is 330 million years old? This is science, right? Science tells us to use PROOFs & FACTS to validate. What proof & FACT do we have available to definitely say, the fossil has been PROVEN (visible & tangible) to be 330 million years old?

OK OK OK...

I stink at explaining things but I will tell you one thing. When scientists want to find out these things, they deploy methods such as radiocarbon dating process or radioisotope dating and things like that. In this case, which involves fossils of whales, they must have deployed radioisotope dating to arrive at the possible age of the fossils as radiocarbon dating won't give them exactly what they want as those fossils are well over 60,000 years old.

And you also have to know that the earth is billions of years old. And all through history, a lot has changed about the planet. So, if at age 11, I was already aware of the fact that much of North America and certain other continents were under the ocean some millions of years ago before the ocean finally receded giving way to land, then I am really surprised that many full-grown adults are ignorant of that fact.

Man, tell you what. The Earth is a wonder. And science is the way to go. I am an Art student FYI. But I deeply appreciate the sciences and wish my people can embrace science fully.

Wasn't trying to insult nobody.

I have never insulted anybody on Nairaland, you know?

And that comment wasn't even directed at you in particular. It was directed at all those on this thread who read the original post by the OP and still couldn't understand this part below:

The sharks lived about 330 million years ago in what is known as the Late Mississippian geologic time period, when much of North America was covered by oceans.

Most of them only get interested in things that have to do with tales of spirituality, like stories of how a person performed blood money, how a virgin can pray for you to be successful and many other funny things.
