Subzero047: Football is an economy.. a business entity... Who competition help ? The fans want to be entertained and be happy but the people running the show want to make money ! |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 2:49am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Subzero047: Football is a brand my guy, just because you refuse to acknowledge the marketability of it, does not make it any less a brand. Competitions need sponsors, and sponsors look at marketability. Everything is a business eventually, so, you need to always bring your best to it, from every angle. Some of you are stuck in 1990-2005 football era, that is why you still have limited view of the sport. Football has gone beyond being a game for a bunch of loud, unruly, drunk men to enjoy at a bar, it has expanded to include a variety of persons, some of who care for the aesthetics, just as much as the game. It is the same thing with most sports. Winning is still top priority, but there is no reason why you can't look good while at it |

Subzero047:did yo u apply, they did not give you the job? You have as much stake, how many caps do you have as a Nigerian international? Which trophy did you captain the team to? When next you hear NFF is recruiting, drop your CV, I hear people still get lucky in job hunting. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 2:54am On Feb 14, 2020 |
safarigirl: People get jobs and run businesses without formal education training. People lead their homes without WAEC certificates. It is not specialized training for leadership. If i want to work as a doctor, i need to get a medical certificate. If i want to be a nurse, i study nursing. Even if i live in the hospital following the nurses around, i can not practice nursing without specialized training. Yobo can probably teach under 16 and academies but at the highest level. He is grossly under qualified. |

Joebie: Nothing spoil at all, at least we go parade jersey, some other countries no go even get jersey to parade |

arrogance would always be a problem whether you have achieved a lot or not. Let's not leave the matter at hand. You've got to have a badge and experience to earn a position like the Assistant coach of SE. Talking about branding, how is this even good for a brand called SE? At least I will understand if we lack Nigerian coaches with experience and badge. But this is not the case. Danielnino00: |

True talk.. at least we rep for WC. safarigirl: |

I can also make the argument that there are good players who attempted coaching but failed woefully, so Subzero047 deserves a chance. safarigirl: |

tbaba1234:people go for leadership training seminars my guy, you cannot become the COO or CEO of any decent organization without proper training. You have a defective leader, because he never got any proper training. He was just handed positions, same as the one before him. Buhari is grossly underqualified for the position he occupies, but this is where we are. He is not yet the coach, he is just an assistant. There are plenty of midwives in Nigeria without nursing degrees, hundreds of mechanics without engineering degrees and they fix cars well enough. Thankfully, the role of an assistant coach is not a life and death role, like that of a medical practitioner. Basically, football is not as important as all the professions you are comparing it to. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:04am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Above all, you build a brand by performance on the pitch. No matter how our jersey fine if we break fans heart, e no go sell safarigirl: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:04am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Joebie:like I said, he can try his luck the next recruitment phase. You can't say you were never given a chance, when you never sought it to begin with. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:05am On Feb 14, 2020 |
you are castigating Buhari and defending Yobo. Choose one side. safarigirl: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:06am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Like Yobo did not cry for this job or at least have been working on getting the job. Let the guy express himself. That's the first step. safarigirl: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:07am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Joebie:Nike cashed out on the last jersey sale, and most of the fans who bought the jerseys, never watched the team prior to getting the jersey. The jersey sold its self |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:08am On Feb 14, 2020 |
At least we qualified for the world cup. That's performance to some extent. If Tanzania like let them make the finest Jersey in the world and you think they will cash out like us? safarigirl: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:08am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Joebie: If he cried, he must have done so to the right people. I did not see Yobo crying on Nairaland for the job, did you? |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:11am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Joebie: Tanzania don't have a footballing history I never said performance is irrelevant, I said they should go together. Nothing is above any After all, if you qualify for World Cup finish and your jersey no fine, who go buy am? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:13am On Feb 14, 2020 |
performance is above fine jersey. Let Nigeria reach quarter final for WC with a bad jersey and you think fans will not start buying more? We have population to our advantage we could achieve even more by performing better. safarigirl: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 3:15am On Feb 14, 2020 |
safarigirl: You are emphasizing my point At the highest level of leadership, you might need extra training. Just like you need extra training to perform at the highest level of coaching. Yobo can coach young amateur boys but again, he is under qualified for the role of a senior team coach. Mechanics undergo training to be mechanics, they do not just open cars and start fixing. They spend months learning to do the job. Even those involved in making traditional medicines are involved in some level of training before they start mixing concoctions. Yobo has no coaching training whatsoever not CAF or UEFA. Look at the difference in Manu Garba's team in 2013 when Amuneke was his assistant and in 2019. That is what a quality assistant can add to a team. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:16am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Joebie:I am not defending Yobo I am asking the people attacking Yobo to give it a rest. Buhari has proven how useless he is, so, I can castigate him. Yobo is yet to do anything to deserve castigation. I was defending Buhari before he entered office, but after his woeful performance, I am castigating him. Same way, I am giving Yobo the benefit of doubt now, pending when he actually messes up Like I have been saying, unless someone can provide evidence of Yobo messing up in a similar position, I have no issues with his appointment. Posterity will judge |

gbam @ bolded. The missing link has always been a quality assistant. This move for Yobo will not improve the team coaching wise. Mikel was the big bros the young team ran to, but that didn't guarantee success at the WC. Now we clamoring for another big bros in Yobo considering some of your arguments here. The question is what have we added to our tactical bench to move our football forward? tbaba1234: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:21am On Feb 14, 2020 |
tbaba1234:he is ASSISTING, not coaching. An assistant, can be an understudy. He will not be in charge, at any point. He can enroll for the license, while on the job, just like people enroll for Masters and even First Degrees, while in employment. Maybe he will be promoted to Head Coach, after getting his certificate. Rohr has more than one assistant, does he not? This life is not that complicated, make una relax. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:23am On Feb 14, 2020 |
no be attack, na just statement some of you are not comfortable with. This whole matter can be put succinctly -- Yobo is not qualified for the job Now that we have stated the fact, let's move on. safarigirl: |

safarigirl: So he is basically an apprentice because the assistance , he can offer at this point is very limited. 1 Like |

I hope the experience he gets from Rohr he will use it well when he handles our Olympic Eagles and CHAN team. Abi would he be assisting then? safarigirl: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:26am On Feb 14, 2020 |
tbaba1234: Yes, that is what he is. Salisu is still the main assistant. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by safarigirl(f): 3:30am On Feb 14, 2020 |
Joebie: Is it not Salisu that handles the CHAN team? The Olympic Eagles? Are they not disbanded until further notice? Or did Imama qualify the team for Olympics? There is no immediate need for Yobo's expertise in any position aside the 'assistant' role. And if it arises, we will see how it goes. Even coaching certificate people dey do rubbish, so, until Yobo does his own, I honestly cannot be bothered about a certificate. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 3:37am On Feb 14, 2020 |
So Salisu is back in the team? Insult to injury safarigirl: |
