This is an act of incompetence from the BA
They should be sued for tgis
Since the visibility I. Lagos is not encouraging, what happened to Abuja airport, what happened to calabar, what happened to portharcourt, what happened to bayelsa?
If this is in their country they would have fined Nigeria 20billion just as they did with P&ID
British is the Origin of scam

They are filled my friend, almost every airline is using Abuja and very few are flying that, say Turkish and emirates and they can't give up their seats since it has to be double( Lagos bound passengers).

But then, I doubt the authenticity if this report because airlines have a policy of not taking you to another country other than your origin.

How do u improve visibility? The best thing to do is to fix the ILS in the airport and no claiming you will make weather better

So as a minister of aviation you don't know why Airlines choose to reroute to Ghana other than Abuja ..okay then let me list the reasons out for you .

1 .Kotoka Airport Ghana is closer to Lagos than Abuja and so will save the airline more fuel

2. The ILS service in Abuja airport is epileptic and obsolete CAT 1 while Kotoka has CAT 3b where an aircraft can land with even just 50 ft of visibility

3 .the cost of aviation fuel is cheaper and more accessible than Nigeria

4 Kotoka airport Ghana has better runway service than any airport in Nigeria

So Mr minister you can see why any reasonable crew will opt to reroute to Ghana than head to Abuja

You are fond of making outlandish statements with a sole purpose in mind.

From CNN:

The airport is "in the process of replacing the old category 2 Instrument Landing Systems with the newly procured category 3 system that allows for the lowest visibility landing," said James Odaudu, director of public affairs for Nigeria's Ministry of Aviation.

Instrument Landing System (ILS) works as a signal navigation aid that guides pilots when landing in low visibility. Airport authorities in Lagos experienced difficulties replacing their old ILS with a new one, making it impossible for airplanes to land.

"Unfortunately, there was a malfunctioning of certain components, which, coupled with the unforeseen weather conditions, made landing at the airport difficult," Odaudu said in the statement.

there are limit's to that..don't say aircrafts doesn't land during winter? where the Sky's a bit whiter than now self. so the govt shd improve the airport facilities a except prices of things go up...imagine the cargo terminal ll empty in mmia kos no plane landed for the past 4days n nothing was done...

Some of these people don't fly so don't blame them, you don't need to be an expert to know MMIA has poor ILS compared to other airports.

If you want to unravel why Nigeria is in such a terrible state, a visit to Nairaland is all you need to see reasons. Just imagine some dolts already abusing Buhari when it was clearly stated that bad weather is the reason.
I think most of these Nairaland anti-Buharists have a common sickness, it is called post-election trauma grin

You left 1500 Lagos-bound passengers stranded just because you want to look for trouble at the burial ceremony of Nnamdi Kanu's parents?

When will you change? Ehn! When? Is it until the rotten vulture meat barbecue business man call you a moronic drunkard before you'll come to your senses?

First, privatise the current Airports and build more international Airports to be operated by private enterprise.

The South West requires three more international Airport to serve Abeokuta, Akure, Ibadan and Ilorin.

I live on the border of London and I am 1hrs drive access to Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick (owned by a Nigerian led business), Stanstead, City Airport, Birmingham and London Oxford Airport.

Too many ignorant folks. My spouse was affected as well. I prefer her to be delayed and arrive safely after a few days. There has been an extreme harmattan haze over Southern Nigeria. No flights flew to PH today. Even planes that were supposed to land in Lagos had to be diverted to Abuja.

When visibility over an airport is near zero, do you expect the government to do magic? DOn't flights get cancelled when volcanic mountains in Iceland and other places in Europe start spewing ash into the atmosphere? Must we criticize the government and our country at every turn?

Abge make we chill jor!

And what does that tells you, this government is doing all they could to bring back the glory of the country as to put the airport to advance standard, other previous government spent billions of dollar on outdated equipments.

Shame on PDP and their supporters.

But petrol is 145 naira in Nigeria, same Petrol sells for 5 cedis and 20 pesewas = 350 naira in Ghana

Why is the reverse the case when it comes to aviation fuel?

https://www.thecable.ng/1500-lagos-bound-passengers-stranded-in-ghana-four-days-after-flight-diversion
Ghana airport is seriously making lots of gains here .... landing fees and overflight fees for the diversion , this exclude the numerous hotel booking and restaurant reserve. Another boost to the economy.

in a nut shell , Ghana is making additional money thru this.

Haha! It is funny how you think having a huge population is enough to build more airports. No, it's not and MMIA is not fully utilized in its current state, capacity wise.
privatization, yes but not building newer ones for now because we are still very poor and people build more airports not just because of the citizens but for purpose of tourism and business travelers and we need to own at least 3 standard carriers with hubs in different parts of the country or it's just another waste.

This is why Qatar with less than 300k citizens have an airport that is busier than all international airports in Nigeria, it's not the citizens that make use of them!

Airports are used and busier because they are hubs.

lol,Nigeria is truly a zoo.You have 1,500 passengers stuck at Accra because of your poor substandard biggest airport and you guys still open that your poverty capital of the world mouth to talk.Disgraceful zoo.Or you think it's rainy season and perfect clear weather in Accra forgetting that Accra to Lagos is barely 1 hour and that Accra is experiencing similar harmattan weather but the difference is Ghana has a world-class airport in West Africa that can stand any weather due to world-class facilities.

Direct your anger to your useless government who have been taking 200 million people for a ride for over 60 years with all your resources buh rank highest in poverty, crime, banned from immigrating to the US,terrorism in your entire northern zones,no electricity, etc etc and stop directing your energy by hating on a blessed nation like Ghana.
