He didn't abandoned the struggle but understood that the best way to achieve freedom is to be actively involved in decision making.

While Nnamdi Kanu is basking on the support from international communities to help him actualise Biafra, he failed to realise that no world powers would support an independent nation for people who have proven to be tech developers because such action is seen as a threat to them

The Biafran struggle was thrust on him, being the most senior igbo military officer left after the July 1966 coup, and he had the obligation to save his people from genocide in the north. He abandoned the Biafran struggle as soon as the war was over, and came back to fight for his father's properties in Nigeria.
