Perhaps she was worth it and was just reaping what she sowed. Maybe if she was a lazy fuq no one would treat her so well. 2 Likes |

shugaboz: Perish the thought. Why would I want to pay someone for adding no value whatsoever to my business for 5 months? Because she has female Instruments? Hell no. 4 Likes |

RisenPhoenix: While it may sound unfair for business owners to employ women of childbearing age who will keep going on maternity leave, the importance of their role to preserve the human species cannot be overemphasised. Nature has bestowed the greater role of reproduction upon the female gender, hence women getting pregnant is necessary for the survival of the human specie. Now, what is the purpose of maternity leave in the first place?- Other than giving women time to recover mentally, physically and physiologically, from the rigors of pregnancy and labour, maternity leave also gives them time to bond with their children, learn to care for them and finally to give them a good start in life so they can blend well into the society and not be plagues on the society. The unconditional parental bond (whether mum'sor dad's) in the first 2 years of a child's life is very important otherwise there would be more misfits in the society. Many places now give paternity leave (usually 2 weeks) , and are even pushing to extend it for longer. 3 Likes |

RisenPhoenix:Nigeria that will give 3 months, how far. I know a country that gives 6 months, additional 6months making it one yr. U can even start like a month before dmdue date. Very minimal deduction and the country is still among the best in the world. Your govt prioritise what doesn't matter 4 Likes |

yeyeosoronga: It is unfair on business owners period. Why would I want to pay someone for adding zero value to my business for 6 months; and still pay her replacement for those 6 months as well? If they know pregnancy and choldbirth will clash with their contract of employment, women of child bearing age who wish to have children should stay at home and do so until they think have had enough children; then look for jobs. I am seriously considering whether insisting on tubal ligation as part of the job requirements would be illegal? While I agree with the need for parental bonding during the formative stages, the specific presence of the father is not necessary in those early stages. The child should preferably bond with his stay-at-home mother, while she is recovering from the mental physical blah blah blah. 3 Likes |

RisenPhoenix: Don't worry, a time is still coming men will become true equal carers of children after birth. When that time comes you can advocate vasectomy as a prerequisite for employment. 1 Like |

sassysure: 5 months paid maternity leave is constitutional? In which country's constitution? I don't know. Never had a pregnant woman work with me, never will after reading this warning thread. I just realised that pregnant women and married women of childbearing age are much too over qualified for the posts I have on offer, but I wish them the best of luck in their careers anyway. |
