Does This Support Purgatory? by Sunnycliff(m): 9:47am On Feb 16, 2020 |
Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, Matthew 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. The above passages are shows the events that happened at the death of Christ. Does it mean that these dead saints where in Purgatory? |

Ladylite: Bible said, it's appointed unto men, once to die and after this the judgement. These people were dead for as long as no one knows of, but they were brought back to life and entered back into the city as living beings. The Purgatory teaching, is that there's a place for temporary retribution, after which a man is taken to heaven. Don't this passage back up that catholic doctrine? 1 Like |

Sunnycliff: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Ladylite:Jesus after his death, descended into Hell/ beneath the earth..and freed some souls in a place called prison. Some Bible termed it hades. The word purgatory is not mentioned in the bible, just as the the word "bible" or "Trinity is not seen as a word in the bible, but we believe in Trinity. Jesus preached to them when he got there. He can't preach to people in hell fire na, so the place he went to, have a name...and it is not heaven. Remember, a prisoner would either remain life in prison or be freed at a certain period. Purgatory is a place, where people who were not able to make it to heaven, would be sent to be purged off their sin before they can make it to heaven. It is not easy to make heaven because u must be 100% pure. That's why as Christians we are encouraged to pray for our dead friends, etc so that their sins could be forgiven and then been taken up to heaven. There are many cases where dead friends, relatives, etc appeared to someone that has been praying for them and appreciated their prayers, for they were taken up to heaven because of the players of mercy offered to God. In the book of Maccabees, there is a place were it reads that Christians prays for the dead. So why would they pray for someone who has died for long....what is the essence of the prayer? I guess you know. In Eph 4;8-9 Paul also confirmed what Peter said, that Christ descended beneath the eath. Which means that where he went to is not heaven, which is above. Heaven is a paradise and it is above not below. Now in the book of Matthew 5, Jesus was preaching about anger (he was preaching in parables) He said its better you settle your faults with the person u have issue with, in other to avoid been put in prison. In verse 26 he said, " there you will stay until you have paid the last penny" Mark the word Until...meaning, your days in that prison is not forever. You will be freed when you have finished paying the penny from the punishment your will receive in that prison. That's why we are encouraged to pray for the souls of those in purgatory, our prayers can make God to reduce their punishment and have mercy on them, free them and take them up into heaven. Don't expect to find the word purgatory in the bible, u can't see that just like the word Trinity etc that we Christians believe in. This teachings has been explained by the saints, the early disciples and apostles of Christ, through their divine wisdom. The bible is not to be read like a novel or story book. Their are a lot of things in the bible that requires divine wisdom of the the Holy Spirit, before you can understand them. Uptil now, some Christians doesn't believe that Jesus is God, some don't even believe in hell, Trinity etc. All these requires divine wisdom before it can be understood. When you are doubting any christianity teachings, just follow the teachings of the saints Happy Sunday to u. |

If heaven is a gift based on Jesus precious death and eternal redemption then THERE IS NO PURGATORY. if heaven is a reward for what you did then there is purgatory where you will pay for the ones you did not do well. If you claim that it is both gift and reward you are a deceiver and Antichrist. See this text Ephesians 2:8-9 [8]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9]Not of works, lest any man should boast. Maccabees and Eph 4:8 you qouted has nothing to do with purgatory. If Judas Maccabees pray for the dead and we are encouraged to do so remember that Saul also consulted witchcraft so you must aslo encourage it too Mobi47: 1 Like |

luke4look:praying for the dead is different from what king Saul did to Samuel. Your quote about faith and work is even a different thing. Yes, heaven is a gift and you have to work for it. Just as faith without work is death. You can't say because u have faith in God, you won't do the right thing and still make heaven. You must work for it. If u want to understand faith and work better, read the book of James. |

Matthew 27:50-56 refers to those who died believing in God through the Mosaic law; Jesus death and resurrection brought them out of their waiting realm and gave them access into God's presence. 1 Peter 3:18-21; refers to the prison for the disobedient in the days of Noah as a pointer to the fact that Christ died to set free all those who died in disobedience from creation till his death and resurrection including every other human being because "God has concluded all men sinners from the sin of Adam so that through Jesus Christ death on the Cross and Resurrection that He might show all men mercy" (Romans 11:32) Revelation 20:11-15 confirms that there are other realms from which human souls will come for judgment "And I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them [for this heaven and earth are passing away]. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the Book of Life; and the dead were judged according to what they had done as written in the books [that is, everything done while on earth]. 13 And *the sea* gave up the dead who were in it, and *death and Hades* (the realm of the dead) surrendered the dead who were in them; and they were judged and sentenced, every one according to their deeds. 14 Then death and Hades [the realm of the dead] were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire [the eternal separation from God]. 15 And if [e]anyone’s name was not found [f]written in the Book of Life, he was hurled into the lake of fire." if you look closely at Verse-13; you will see *the sea*, *death and hades* are *realms* from which human souls will be vomited outside of *earth* will come for the white throne judgment however *hades and death continues to exist until the final judgment when it will be cast into hell-fire(gehenna) which is the second death* including *all the dead whose names are not found written in the book of life* according to verses 14 & 15. So there are *realms* apart from Heaven, Earth, Hell-Fire were human souls also exist. This passage Revelation 20:11-15 is not referring to those who *believe in Jesus Christ* whether biologically dead or alive *at the trumpet of the Archangels* rather all unbelievers in the gospel thus they are called *the dead*; anybody who does not believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ Crucified is a dead-being whether biologically dead or alive. Revelation 20:1-10 will show you how the righteous through faith in Christ will be given crowns and thrones to join the lamb and other saints to judge the unbelievers who were not part of the 1st resurrection now tagged *the dead* from verse-11 to 15. Hebrews 11:39-40 confirms that the *saints in Christ Jesus Crucified* will not be crowned until all of us who believe and are biologically alive gather in the presence of God together with them which will be at the trumpet of the Archangels as 1 Thessalonians.4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58; John 5:25-29. "39 And all of these, though they gained [divine] approval through their faith, did not receive [the fulfillment of] what was promised, 40 because God had us in mind and had something better for us, so that they [these men and women of authentic faith] would *not be made perfect [that is, completed in Him] apart from us*." (Hebrews 11:39-40 amp) 1 Peter 3:18-21 gives us confirmation that there is *a realm where souls who are disobedient have access to Jesus Christ visitation to proclaim the gospel and lead them into his presence* however a very clear fact about these human souls is *they are sinners under the motions of sin inherited by every human being through the disobedience of Adam but they did not have the opportunity of hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ Crucified before they died* hence Jesus Christ goes to visit them, proclaim the gospel to them as He did for those in 1 Peter 3:18-21. He continues to do this until the trumpet of the Archangels when we must have shared the gospel to the whole of Creation as a witness to them thus Matthew 24:14 Amplified Bible (AMP) 14 "This good news of the kingdom [the gospel] will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end [of the age] will come." So it is correct to believe that there is a realm for the dead human souls who did not hear the gospel of Jesus Christ before they died, but they were sinners based upon inherited flesh/sin from Adam and they have Jesus Christ visit them to proclaim the gospel to them as He did for those in 1 Peter 3:18-21. This realm is called prison according to the bible others may call it purgatory; it will exist till the last judgment when it will be finally cast into hell-fire along with all those human souls whose names were not found written in the lamb's book of life according to Revelation 20:11-15. People in this cadre may include aborted children and all those who did not hear the gospel of Jesus Christ Crucified from any human being before their biological death, it has nothing to do with those who heard the gospel and rejected it or those who believed the gospel and later returned back to the vomit of sin and flesh whether it is called small sin or big sin. The only producer of sin in human being is *the flesh* and anyone who holds unto the flesh after hearing the gospel then dies in such state has condemned himself unto hell-fire hence no prayer can save such a person thus "John 3:18 Amplified Bible (AMP) 18 "Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him [as personal Savior and Lord] is not judged [for this one, there is no judgment, no rejection, no condemnation]; *but the one who does not believe [and has decided to reject Him as personal Savior and Lord] is judged already* [that one has been convicted and sentenced], because [a]he has not believed and trusted in the name of the [One and] only begotten Son of God [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, the One who alone can save him]." John 3:36 Amplified Bible (AMP) 36 He who believes and trusts in the Son and accepts Him [as Savior] has eternal life [that is, already possesses it]; *but he who does not believe the Son and chooses to reject Him, [disobeying Him and denying Him as Savior] will not see [eternal] life, but [instead] the wrath of God hangs over him continually*." This is what John was talking about when he said *sin not unto death* which is any sin you commit while you are still alive, someone can pray for, share the word with you and help you return to the Crucified Jesus Christ for *restoration/salvation/sanctification* because there is no sin while on earth that Jesus Christ cannot forgive (Mark 3:28) however *sin unto death is a sin that someone dies biologically while committing it* after hearing the gospel there is *no prayer for such a human soul salvation in the grave* thus "1 John 5:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 "If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death." Great Grace Brethren!!! |

Sunnycliff: ===== The Bible supports the souls of God's saints - (i.e. anyone in the history of this world to whom the Lord GOD has freely, and graciously given mercy and the righteousness of the Lord JESUS CHRIST) - going directly to Heaven when they leave their bodies on this earth. "(For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him" - 2 Corinthians 5:7-9 Peace. |
