Timing is key as well. Otherwise you will end up catching a falling knife. As in sharp knife!

Gbam!

The negative effect of the last devaluation still lingers in the economy, with folks' naira net worth loss of 40% in dollar terms {most haven't recovered), businesses/property developers still grappling with expenses being priced at $360, while revenue flow/rents etc still be priced at $180 (old rate). Abeg if you know, you know.... Such a difficult investing/business terrain we have here! The only lifestyle sustainer is having dollar inflows and then you can f*@** devaluation!

Do you realise that the CBN just floated a 5-Year FX futures contract to reduce $ demand pressure in FX mkt, encourage $ inflows and at least stave off imminent devaluation for now, huh? Besides, the gov is planning to go back to d Eurobond mkt to raise $3b (not yet confirmed but likely)... In all these, it doesn't make any mkt sense to devalue now, many make-shift options still available... Abeg when we are crying wolf, let us at least validate our crying o!

The fpi are exiting our market for a reason.......if they are not here, the probability of a sustained bull is remote..
The fg will not allow devaluation if there is a choice....we always do it when we have our back to the walls......
Nobody can say when devaluation will happen but there are indices to watch out for-, oil price and forex reserve...
I don't argue with market but plan ahead on what to do when events happen....
I am still in the market but very light as I believe money can be made at anytime no matter the direction of the market....

We all have the freedom to choose how we play the market no matter what people are saying.. grin

Smart monies are always in the Market.

...and smart monies just don't buy for the sake of buying anyhow anytime - they look at the bigger picture first (the macro, govt policies etc), the secular trend, the stage of the mkt cycle etc and then position nicely to take advantage.... My Oga said timing is the koko! No doubt! But smart positioning in and out of mkts too, the enabler of consistent investment performance.... It is not everytime we buy Naira assets.... Holding cash esp $, it's an investment too!

what is happening in Ucap? Board of Directors meeting was held on Friday, February 14, 2020. The result is yet to be released as at 1.48 pm today February 18, 2020. The pattern of trading suggests unusual movements.

Experience is always the best teacher. Fall in crude supply as witness during bombing of pipeline, or fall in Brent crude oil price always lead to economic recession, and economic recession lead to currency devaluation, and devaluation lead to hardship, which result to Vicious Circle of Poverty.

Insofar as one want cheaper stocks, recession should not be the means to its attainment. Investors while investing should also have portion of cash saving in one account to always buy stocks at it's 52 weeks low, or cheaper price whenever opportunity present itself.

The FPIs are just looking for guarantees re. their carry trade activities incl. the sustainability of their OMO bills participation) and Meffy has given them a longer 5 year FX forwards contract to appease them. With this, just watch out for the rising yield in the FGN bonds (thought very low now) and that to me, is the headwind for the stock markets, not imminent devaluation.... Once the yield is back in double digit, wahala dey for stock mkts!

People beat the last devaluation via well timed stock investing and exit. Other asset classes may not have done better.

My Oga, that is still a big IF... but first thing first, still more headwinds in the mkt to deal with before the almighty devaluation (if any)

BTW, Wasn't really attacking Oga Oracle directly. Was just saying that when we push negative news. let's try validating it first cos mkt participants tend to react more to bad news than good news...

True, Sir! Like you said well-timed... esp in this clime where this mkt in its current form is massively rigged against long-term investors. If not on the inside as long term investor, one is merely shooting in the dark.... But for swing investors and we, traders, the only succor is the price action via TA/SA and its usage in coattailing the actions of these "insiders" mkt participants re. entry and exit decisions.

Yield was in double digits from 2018 to the later part of 2019 and NSE was still bearish......
We will surely know if fpi have been appeased or not with subsequent economic reports .

The bottom line is, a buy
and hold strategy in the
broader stock market
index just doesn’t
compensate you for risk.
It’s a bad investment.

PART OF THE NUMBERS

For UPDC shareholders, when the unbundling is consummated, a shareholder with 12 shares of UPDC will receive 1 share UPDCREIT in addition.

If fixed interest instruments return to double digits right now, the bears in the NSE would certainly increase in their numbers.
