Word just got to me but I wouldn't wanna banter here. If you people only knew the politics that was played with this NNPC job you wouldn't look down on yourself cos you didn't get the APL. For those that didn't get APL trust me you did so well. it was just the will of God. Rather see it as a blessing in disguise. But All I have to say is, this is the most corrupt government ever in Nigeria. This regime is rotten to the core. At this juncture I hide my face in shame to be called a Nigerian. Go pray for your country Nigeria. it's Leaders are driving the country to doomshocked

Any word on the EH situation, seems like a drift.

I'm back again lol, albeit I said my previous post, go be my last post on this thread. I read some people's story here, and I feel like dropping mine too. It can only get better.

I graduated from high school in 2006(16 years old). I end staying at home for 5 years, before I gained university admission in 2011, we resumed in Jan 2012.(five months to 22nd birthday)

Can you believe I didn't learn a single skill throughout my 5 years at home. I didn't complete the computer training i enrolled for, na later I learn am lol.

I just dey hustle, i teached in a primary school for about two half years, I resigned and enter the street, with my some friends, we dey engage in some very hard sunny jobs, but the pay was good then, na so I waste my 5 years lol....

College wasn't too smooth, thanks to strike; Internal(ALUTA, my OAU folks can relate and external(ASUU). i graduated from college early 2016.(26 years old).

Unfortunately, I wasn't mobilized for NYSC that year, I had to wait for another year, it was so painful, cos age no dey my side. well this time I use am wella, to cut the long story short I finished nysc 2018(28years old).

As a street boy, I don calculate say job no be for everyone, me included so I step up my hustle and diversify. I lock up, no CV, my pali(certificate) just dey rest somewhere in my wardrobe...

So February last year, NNPC came, I calculated the age, fortunately for me I scaped through, so I decided to try.

I registered and I was shortlisted. i wrote the CBT and was invited for interview, I never saw that coming though, no be say I dull oh, but me interview lol.

The only thing wey pain me be say, the stress wey i went through, before dem give me my NECO certificate, cos e dey part of the documents wey dem request for. dos guys wey dey neco office stressed my life.

My dad followed me sef, i told him to chill say I go handle ma but he won't listen, don't mind himna so e be. I remember sometimes in 2008 wey we go Minna( Niger State) from Abeokuta (Ogun State), wey i go write Jamb, late registration issh, I no con gain admission with the jamb las las.

I left Abeokuta late that day wey i collect my neco certificate. I left around 6PM, I dey go ile-Ife. Dad told me to sleep over and go the next day, I was like I don overstay sef. I've got things to do and time no dey, na wetin make me miss oga Jarus interview be that.

I risked my life that night it wasn't funny. I had a flat tyre at Gbongan(Lagos/Ibadan expressway, around 10:30PM). Chai, my spirit almost left my body when I heard the sound, cos that place dey hot gan that time last year, robbery, kidnapping dey happen frequently.

I sha manage drive pass the thick bush, fortunately there was a fuel station nearby, dem never close, I met a road side vulcanizer, he was about leaving, I begged him to help that my journey still far, I tell am say I still dey go Ekiti lol.

i had experienced again around OUI roundabout(around 11PM), i heard another sound but not loud sha, damn another flat tyre and no more extras.

I was like damn mehn, am I gonna survive this night, to God be the glory here I am today, on top all the stress, dem no gimee job lol. I don get am for mind before say na 50/50.

I will be 30 by June, officially I can't get (GT)job in Nigeria, like I'm looking for one sef lol. na so I jejely went back to my plans, wey I don dey work on, along side waiting for nnpc.

Anytime wey i remember how the journey go be, I just dey shit for pants lol. I was hoping nnpc go safe me lol. now

The thought that, I'm gonna leave my fiancé in nigeria, and I go comot for two cold years, no dey go down well at all, no be say I like book like that but I gat no choice. Man must survive!!!!

My advice to us, be say make we no give up, and don't settle for less. You can do it if you believe, and you work towards it. it's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be hard, its gonna be very hard. You may fall into depression, you'd wanna give up, but eventually everything go fall in place. that's life....

if age no dey your side, abeg dey plan to comot the country, even if na South africa, some of their schools dey top 200(UCT) in the world.

Don't get stuck in naija, don't be a grupo lol, don't be that nigga wey dey always complain, complains like "if Eve no chop that Apple, I no go dey suffer today lol". Go and learn new ways to make money.

Lastly, don't join Amotekun!!! jk lol

We gonna be ok las las, remember say in life everybody get time wey dem go reach their destination.

Be strong!!!! always remember you're not doing this for yourself alone, you're also doing it for your unborn children, you're also doing it for the culture lol.

bobowaja, iyajelili and mitocyan, i go reach out to you guys soon. I've been extra busy since friday, I go settle down soon, I go reach out.

Jetting out of the country very soon.....

I wish all of us well in life. Never give up. be strong!!!

Here is what I can say on a public forum:

1. It was a panel interview. Can't remember the exact number that interviewed me but they weren't less than 4.

2. The questions are mainly personality based questions, in many cases focusing on your CV.

3. Be well dressed and read about NNPC. Your dressing and knowledge about NNPC will be tested and graded.

4. On the pay, I'm not sure it is right to reveal nnpc pay package on a public forum. But all I can say is that don't be deceived by what you see on the offer letter. They only include basic salary on the employment letter. Overall, the pay package for non-management staff is fairly good but certainly not the best in the world. For management staffs, the pay package is maaaad.

5. They did refund the TP (for all candidates) but it was after several months. For those that used Abuja address in their application or CV, you will receive little or no TP refund.

Believe me, you will almost regret using Abuja address if you are successful and they call for new hire orientation. *lips sealed*

Hi guys, I present to you two cases that need your opinion.

Case 1
Introduction:

After missing out on the APL, I got a call today for an offer from a company I interviewed with in December.
The company is in Lekki, but I live in Ikorodu. The job comes with a lot of international exposure, although the exposure only takes place on the computer screen. It's a big firm but with only a few people (less than 25). The MD is a popular figure in Nigeria.

The Dilemma:

The pay is about 80k, and I'll spend an average of 40k on water transportation every month, and about 7k on feeding.
I have until Friday to accept or decline the offer.

Ps: I don't know anyone in Lekki

Case 2
Introduction

I interviewed with another company last Friday, just before the news of APL broke, the company is located in Ikeja (closer to Ikorodu) and I got the interview through a referral.

The Dilemma:

The take home will be around 110k/month with no international exposure but a defined career path, rapid career growth, and a more robust work environment (I'll be responsible for over 50 workers).
Ps: The offer isn't on ground yet.

Please I seriously need advice on what to do.

Case 2 does not exist yet, grab the one you have for now until something better comes up. Forget the pay, you are still very young, training and experience matters more now, when you acquire enough skill and experience, then you can pilot your career path and dictate your earnings. Trust me, it is better than sitting at home and waiting for what may not eventually come. Good luck

A lot of new GTs have been sending emails asking me various questions or wanting to get my contact. I can't keep up with the mails.

First of all, I do not know when you will get your APL. You should be rest assured you will get your APL. And even if you dont before resumption date, you should still report to NNPC quarters. I am just an ex NNPC employee.

If you still want my contact, please send your telegram number only. I will contact only via telegram.

GTs do not argue about the salary you are seeing. I heard of someone who got a job of 50k, left the job, and company changed salary to 250k later. Be wise! you don't know if NNPC is testing whether you came for money or came to work...Just start working, and you may see that the money may probably be increased greatly.

You are welcome. While you are at it, ensure you invest part of the remaining 33k in developing yourself (IT skill is bae it stands, the world is going techy everyday). If possible, do not disclose your true salary to your family otherwise you'll end up being the good (but secretly frustrated) son/daughter. Act wisely

Assuming you aren't under any pressure to pay bills at home and u don't have any responsibilities take the first one. Use it to build yourself up especially if u don't any previous experience

I'm not disputing this about nnpc cos it's a common knowledge that they do allowances. But this mentality of "maybe they are testing me" should be discouraged when you are negotiating salary with a normal naija firm because you will likely end up short changing yourself.

Really?was thinking that amount would have increased by now. I thought someone said earlier that they approved a new salary structure during the waiting period cos d figure as at 2012 was 1.56M per annum. Summing up to 5.6 with the upfront. Could result in a dilemma for some though and the next promotion comes after three years. It all boils to what one really wants anyways. Some private sector guys are already earning close to or more than this with yearly career growth prospects.

I have read comments on this thread that almost got me into tears.

The accounts of those that did not get the jobs are very touching. I was almost moved to tears by some of them. I can imagine the pressure, the expectation, the hope.

It’s just how life is.

It’s not the end of life. In my final year in Ife in 2006, I had a classmate that could barely pay the N17k school fees. He struggled to raise the money till the last day. He was my good friend. Very brilliant guy (first class actually) but from a very humble home.

When we graduated and started job hustling, anytime he came to Lagos, he used to squat with me in my brother’s house. Sometimes, I would even be the one to “dash” him N500 for transport fare back to his state (in the SW).

He wrote the test of Accenture and they said he didn’t pass.

We both wrote the test of an investment management firm in 2006 (we started job hunting even before NYSC) immediately after graduation. I got the job. He didn’t get it.

His morale was affected. Everyone knew he was more brilliant than I was. His confidence was being affected but he soldiered on.

Guess what? In 2008, few weeks after out NYSC, he got job in an IOC that is perceived to be the best place to work in Nigeria.

That changed his life and that of his family and his generation.

The last time we saw, in 2016, he just “warmed” his new house in Lekki which cost him over N60m. I don’t have that despite starting earlier than him. That’s aside his house in his hometown.

This was someone that was rejected by Accenture and Vetiva, small firms.

So guys, NNPC rejection is not the end of life. We have all been rejected by one employer or the other at one point in life. I failed GTB test in 2007 or so (first time I’m saying this anywhere). Today, I probably earn more than a senior manager in GTB. If I had passed the job test in 2007, I would not even have risen to become a manager in GTB today given the multilayered bank career ladder.

So guys, the race is not for the swiftest as the Christians say. And as we Muslims say, what will hit you will not miss you.

Inspiring...

I have been following this forum on ghost mode for long now. I have been pretty informed on certain issues and I have seen those issues confirmed here.

Before now, we all know certain powers in govt wanted their wards names illegally inputted in the list......something d NNPC management had fought for a while......

One of the archilles heel to the process was a certain person close to PMB bringing out over 100 names all of which he demanded were to fill EH positions and managerial roles for that matter. It had been a serious tussle for months and something under contention till date.

I wasn't surprised when the list was released and the EH still in contention. We need to praise the NNPC and the fact that they stood their grounds despite pressures from the powers that be.

It's just disgusting why people will just provide names from nowhere....with no experience or zeal to work and want them to rule over people who actually paid their dues. Its just unfortunate.

Now, IT is a very large field. Good old programming is still the heart of it. I recently introduced two female friends to programming.
One now does data analytics with Python, and the other just started web development. None of them studied Computer Science in school.

Hand don dey pain me and I dey work. I might come back to update later.

Thank you very much...

Please, is there any of the programming language that I can start practicing with using a Phone?

Also, can you please list the specifications a laptop should have that can comfortably handle any programming stuff?

Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement. This thread isn't a pity party. The purpose of the thread is to get info about NNPC and what working there is like. I feel for those that didn't get in. Heck, I have friends that didn't get in but it is not the end of the world. We all have our stories.
I wrote here some time ago that I almost got a remote job that was gonna pay me $30k to $40k per year. That's over 1m every month, way above what NNPC would dream of paying GTs. Plus, I would actually learn a lot and grow too. I was very sad. In fact, it was one of the saddest days ever. All my plans vanished just like that but that experience taught me a lot.

My advice is this:

1. Get IT skill. It's one of the cheapest and easiest skills to learn. You can learn ANY IT skill that will get you a decent job online for free.

2. After getting this skill, apply to jobs abroad too. Honestly, I barely apply for Naija jobs. There are tons of jobs abroad. Now, I have two job offers, one in Naija and the other abroad. I am still deciding which to choose based on a number of things. My friend just got one in Norway.

3. Rejections are part of the process. Accept it. Don't let it weigh you down.

4. Apply for a lot of jobs. Don't always bank on any job. If it comes, fine. If it doesn't, we move.

5. Always try and leave an impression at an interview. Let the interviewers feel you actually have some value to add. When you want to interview with a company, research on its shortcomings, research on its failures and see what you can do to help. Nobody will reject a valuable candidate. When I did the NNPC interview, I knew I had done well. The interviewer practically said, "we need people like you". I knew I had passed but I could never be so sure I would get the job because I thought they would play politics or something.

PS: The IT skill I advised is because IT is the field that can easily get you jobs abroad. And there are jobs in abundance so if you're good, you will get one. IT is growing every day so it can't be saturated.

Godspeed!
I never said I didn't get the job. In as much as the objective of this forum is information sharing, this is DEFINITELY not the time to ask such. Some people are literally suffering from depression because they lost the job. Let's be sensitive people, IQ alone without emotional and social intelligence doesn't cut it. No be even say the persons don do you strong thing wey you no send their feelings again. My take
