NYSC Disclaimer On Payment Of Arrears To Corpers / Ex-corpers May Receive Allawee In Arrears, See Official Breakdown / Nyse Minimum Wage Arrears Coming Soon (2) (3) (4)

Like it or not, corpers are one of the enormous forces uniting Nigeria as a nation. There are many issues facing the citizens of this country presently and one that is worthy of attention is the issue of payment of corpers arrears. I must confess that the federal government surprised 90 percent of corpers when they started paying #33,000 on January this year. It was a pleasant surprise, yet it wasn't supposed to be a surprise if the government had been keeping their promises in the past. It is a welcome development to see the federal government keep their words, but then there is need for corpers to receive arrears in order to balance up the equation. Every Nigerian will consider this as an injustice to 2019 batch A, 2018 B and C. corpers if arrears is not paid as they were in active service when the minimum wage bill was signed to law in April 2019. I have read so many corruption related activities going on in government. There was this news of a family stealing so much money for their own personal interest and nothing was ever done to curb such. Therefore, I see no reason corpers who are committed to serving their fatherland shouldn't be paid the stipend that is constitutionally theirs. You can play politics with many things but not with the engine room of the nation (youths). |

You are right. The government is wrong on this, it is an abuse of human right. |

Baba face front and continue your hustle, for you to be suggesting that it means you clearly have nothing going on, why not pressure the government to do something about the unemployment? Na free money you wan collect, you better drop that mentality and put which braincells you have left into something meaningful. |

Many of you are just wasting your precious time on this campaign which would yield nothing. How greedy can you be. What if the bill was passed in January, would you die for not getting arrears? It was by chance that the bill was passed in April and it's not because you're a serving corps member who did anything spectacular than what previous members did. You can't ask the government for better welfare, you're crying for crumbs you'll finish in a month. Where would you then turn to after the party is over? Those who served before 2018 too would like free money. But if you feel they don't deserve it, you don't deserve it too. |

The last two writers before me are typical Nigerians, it is people like you guys that will never put efforts to see that the right thing is done, when it is suppose to be done. How can you, for Christ sake say that the arrears is "free money". How can you also say they should forget about it. For your information, payment of that money is a LAW. It was SIGNED in April, 2019. Thus all workers under the Federal Govt and others, set up by a law, like the NYSC, should be paid the adjusted allowance from April 2019. What is free about the money? I'm really disappointed at your choice of words. In 2011, when the Goodluck administration increased the allowance of the NYSC, about 4 months arrears was paid. Nobody is asking for any free money anywhere. What the writer is asking is for the Federal Government to pay what these guys have worked for. It is their sweat and their right, they deserve it. I think it's time we started speaking in such a manner that will make government sit up and do what they are suppose to do. When has it become a crime to ask what is duly yours? Do you even know why govt decided to begin the implementation of the new allowance in 2020? Incase you don't know, I will tell you. After the minimum wage was signed into law in April 2019, it was expected that negotiations will begin with organized labour for consequential adjustments of salaries for workers who earn more than the 30K minimum wage. That thing dragged until October 2019, after labour threatened govt it will go on strike if govt doesn't act fast. At that point in time, their was no provision for an increased salaries in the 2019 budget, likewise, corps members couldn't have received their new allowance cos it was not captured in the 2019 budget. It was not that the money was not available, but it had to be budgeted for. So govt decieded to include it in the 2020 budget so that as soon as the president signed the budget into law, payment will begin. And since the Federal government was keen in restoring the january-december budget, President Buhari signed the budget in December 2019. That was what made the payment of 33k in January. If the budget hadn't been signed up till now, the nysc guys will still be collecting 19800. If govt was even serious, it would have sent a supplementary budget to the NASS for approval on the wages. So my guys, let's change our thinking towards this country and make our leaders more accountable. The arrears is their right and not so called free money, and as such, it should be paid to all those, who were serving when the law was signed to December 2019. 4 Likes |

Re: Nysc Arrears by theowane: 9:40pm On Feb 16, 2020 |
Trojan8:I took my time to write that piece not because I wanted it to "move a fly", neither did I write it cos I had nothing to do. I wrote it cos a lot of people, like you do not care what happens in your country, and if after reading that writeup, you still think the way you do, then I wonder if we are going to get it right in this country. The problems of Nigeria didn't just start all of a sudden. Are you aware that most agitations and unrests began cos of perceived injustices?! And if you feel calling for justice for the NYSC members is my problem, I'm going to leave you with this quote by Martin Niemoller who said: "First, they came for the communists and I did not speak out because I was not a communist, then they came for the socialists and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist, then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist, then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a jew, then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me". So my dear brother, if the way you wrote is the way you see life, please wakeup biko. 6 Likes |

Trojan8: If you followed the thread and read through his opinion you will realise that "corpers who served years ago" aren't the ones demanding the arrears but those who served the year the bill was signed into law. You will complain about how lawless a country is and yet trivialize delicate issue. The federal workers received the said arrears so why should NYSC members with majority of them risking their lives in the 2019 general elections not demand theirs. The law says they deserve it so if you really care about moving Nigeria forward legally ,you should take into consideration small issues not just the big ones because the utter disregard for the country's law started from little disregard like this. |

Odunolumide: This is the line that makes me completely mad and wish government doesn't pay the arrears to ex corps members. I mean, weren't they paid and even rewarded far better than their salaries at that time for election duties? Participating in election duties wasn't a compulsory activity, it is 100% voluntary for corps members. Many of you, if you did at all, volunteered out of curiosity. Many would still have even done it for free, still out of curiosity, after many years of serving if their services were required. I have to remind you again that the salary was not increased because workers participated in election duties. As a matter of fact, if not for the doggedness of NLC, you wouldn't have had a dime to your 19k. So next time, don't ever make it seem like government is owing you election duty allowance again, you've been paid off. Stop giving that nonsense line of participating in election duties. If you Present that in court, judge would angrily throw your case out through the window and ask you never to return again. BTW, you take allowances and not salaries. It's at the discretion of the government to either pay you arrears or not. But I have good news for you from my source. You'll all be paid. I hope it lasts you a life time. 1 Like |

ThreeBlackBird: You sincerely have time bro. If not for the state of the country, who will even care about an amount that is less than $200 if they should accumulate it. All I can to them is that it is well. |
Re: Nysc Arrears by Nobody: 10:07am On Feb 21, 2020 |
Trojan8: Bro, it was his attempt to blackmail using election duties that triggered me. I don't blame them as well but I find it rather disgusting that they request for peanut that'll end before the month does and later return to penury. Why can't we hold government accountable for more jobs and favourable clime for foreign investors through consistent policies? The arrears gist stinks. 1 Like |
