The reason I said GDP is the measure of all goods and services is because you seem to think having a larger retaile market is equivalent to have a larger GDP.... The fact is for most countries for example SA the retail market only contributes 12% to GDP.

Hence one country can have a larger retail market than another country yet still have a smaller GDP

For instance China having bigger ppp than USA doesn't means China is enjoying life than USA. The quality of consumption really matters.
