Ghanaians are not willing to pay more when they earn less.

The fact is Jonathan put Nigeria in a snare because everything for him was about corruption.

The DISCOS have nothing to offer and should we continue with them, we would have no adequate power supply for years to come.

They should be done away with, but doing away with them now may actually be more expensive than our annual budget.

In any case, we have to find a way.

Nigerians would rather pay for electricity than fuel for their generators.

The mistake Jonathan made was putting in price controls.

If , for example, Obasanjo had put in price controls in the GSM sector, there would have been zero investment, and our GSM network won't be as large as it is.(and I won't be typing this from the comfort of my house)

If you want to wreck an economy, bring in price controls. No profit, no investment, and a lot of weird things happen

Jonathan sold such a vital enterprise to people without any track record.

In any case, price controls are instituted everywhere around the world. Ofgem in UK for electricity regulation. California also regulated pricing of electricity.

No country would allow a bunch of cowboys dictate pricing willy nilly.

Tge man is obviously not saying the truth. Force majeur may only be applicable to North East. You can't just apply that to the whole nation.

Tge discos should stick to the contract and if it's not working, the parties should meet to fix issues.

All these media stunt will not take us anywhere.

Well, the price controls we put in were basically....DISCOS charge for power at 30% of actual cost., while a subsidy is to be paid to balance things out.

Government, of course, due to low oil prices is having difficultes paying the subsidy. Add the fact that compliance rates in many Nigerian towns and cities and villages can be as low as 48% of households actually paying....and you see why DISCOS are running low on money.

So, either price controls go...or we keep on taking loans. And the loans we have taken are already a big burden.

We must get rid of these DISCOs, we cannot continue to subsidise a failing private enterprise that only does damage to the nation's productivity.

By the way our loans are not such the burden people make them out to be.

This Saleh Mamman is a disaster waiting to happen in the power sector.. you sacked the Rural Electrification Boss because she insisted no new village must be connected to the National grid except Electricity Generation and Distribution Increases, Now that she is with UN and they have replaced her with another Haboki, They have started giving approval for more and more northern villages to connect to the power grid, depleting the little capacity we have for industries

discos rushed to buy because they thought it was free money like the old nepa grin

Is it not?

They now charged far more than what Nepa was charging
More people are now paying electricity bills unlike Nepa era
And we are being given less power.

So these people are definitely making more

Buhari has meesed up, that is true, but this mess was put in place by the previous administration.

The DISCOS, the GENCOS, and the messed up price control systems that made them unprofitable before they even started...PDP installed.

For APC to stop it, they would have to pay them hefty compensation...that's why they are hesitant to change the PDP isntalled system

some people have hold Nigeria as an hostage for a long time... so since some years disco have bought the electricity company it's now they want to back? not only that they want their money, jokes?!...
Re: Discos: We’ve Offered To Return Our Licences Twice But FG Refused by jamace(m): 12:25pm On Feb 25, 2020
The intention of the DISCOS was to come and rip Nigerians. That is the reason they are reluctant to issue prepaid meters and are holding tenaciously to estimated billings.

This too will pass.

1.I use prepaid meter, and power isn't constant in my area.

2.We are not generating enough power for 24//7 light. When Lagos needs 10000MW alone for light 24/7.

3.I think Bonny is near a power plant. Power of proximity and all that.

it is just to debunk your claim that Nigerians don't want to pay for electricity.

A friends live in a place called Abuloma in Port Harcourt, almost everybody owns a prepaid meter, guess what, they have minimum of 22 hours power daily.

Another area in Warri, where almost all residences and shops are on prepaid meter also have power 24-hours.

My co-worker lives in a place called Woji in Port Harcourt, guess what they have almost 24-hours power, because everybody owns a prepaid meter.

You being a lone man in you area owning a prepaid meter will not make the disco give you power, but they can't lose revenue from an entire area. So those people enjoy more power. tongue tongue tongue

Gbam! State, LGA, companies or private individuals can even bid for it. But they should be a limit for at least not more than a state maximum size per biding. Strictly the use of digital meter that must be distributed free or lease fee build into the meter recharge. By so doing people pay for what they can supply.

You people with all this garbage mindset.

Bonny in Rivers State has 24hours electricity and all buildings including shanties have power, because they use prepaid meter. Nobody has time for you if you like pay, if you like don't pay. Nobody has bypassed their meters.

How many homes and shanties in Finima have meters? Someone is paying!!!

And I’m supposed to believe this?

Share the details of the return and what you were demanding from the FG.

The FG sold to you and still funded you to equip yourselves but you all coped the money and still want to return the company and collect money. Even GEJ as daft as he was won’t accept such let alone PMB.

So pmb get sense?
