DownChelsea:Lexus was built to compete in the luxury market, Mercedes being the benchmark. Mercedes is still ahead of lexus, I think there's no questioning that. Mercedes does it with finesse of performance. No matter how appointed the lexus is, its still viewed as an offshoot of Toyota. For example, the Rx300 and the 1st gen Highlander share about the same 3litre engine. Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Porsche are in the same category, from Germany too. Lexus is from a background with a different philosophy from the companies mentioned. Lexus is without a doubt very excellent. I think the first lexus was built in 1989 but before then Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi and some other European automobile companies had already made a strong mark in the business. It's okay if lexus is trying to snatch off top spots, but the truth is, it will be difficult. Ask yourself this, what lexus sedan stands today to knock the 2019 s65 amg (v12 biturbo) off that spot, in terms of luxury & performance in one package? Even the s63? Lexus has that reliability edge no doubt, but alot of folks who drive those automobiles do not give so much thoughts towards reliability, for the fact that they are wealthy, they do it for prestige... 2 Likes |

DownChelsea: Difficult to give a rounded, all-inclusive response. Most Toyota cars are reliable, user-friendly, docile, cheap to-run, economy cars that cover many aspects of automobile transportation. These qualities make them attractive to the common people. For this reason alone Toyota sells more cars than Mercedes. It is a strategy which they have used to outsell many other brands in the automobile market and this is their focus. Looking at it from luxury perspective, I guess Mercedes and BMW sell more cars every year than lexus. There is so much to the question "Toyota and Mercedes which is a better company?" You can look at it from these lines: In terms of annual income declared, Toyota. Number of cars sold, Toyota. Prestige and comfort, Mercedes. In the sports and performance, Mercedes. Brand image, maybe Mercedes. Reliability, Toyota. Safety, Mercedes. Luxury, Mercedes. Compared to Toyota, Mercedes has a bigger budget in research, design and development for their products, I think the german automobile companies generally do. They design the cars to please the driver behind the steering wheel. (Toyota confirmed that in the joint Supra project they had with BMW). Toyota, on the other hand may not be bothered about the 'feel' or driver enthusiasm factor, but simplicity and efficiency they would care more about. Alot more indices to consider. I own both these products so i see them as two different cars, Good for their own purpose. The W204 c350 is one of the best cars on the highway, it is comfortable and fast, much faster than my Toyota Matrix. But the aircon system in the benz is finicky compared to that of the matrix, the latter is indestructible. But It makes no sense to compare a matrix to a w204 c350... So for me, there is no clear cut answer, a little bias will tip towards Mercedes because as a customer, their products appeal to my sense of personality and attraction towards automobile. 2 Likes |

yungboss:you can’t speak as a consumer. Cos the question ab-initio was is respect of the “corporate entities” themselves. That the Toyota company is a superior/better (or bigger) corporate entity is something that is not in doubt. 1 Like |

yungboss:Reliability and trust come from actions in the right direction, nothing else. Since the beginning, Mercedes-Benz engineers have devoted each minute of their time to a moment they hope never happens. It's like being ready for the worst because they make the best anyway. In the process, they’ve set benchmarks that the rest of the automotive industry follows to this day. Mercedes-Benz vehicles are designed to protect you in ways that you might have never imagined — and with the hope that you’ll never have to. Innovation has always fueled the passion of Mercedes-Benz engineers to pioneer safety technologies. They’ve made history for introducing many of the safety features that are now commonplace in the industry. Below are just a few of the milestones that have made their debut on a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. 1951 – The crumple zone 1971 – A patent for the airbag 1978 – Antilock Braking System (ABS) 1985 – Electronic traction control 1997 – Automatic child-seat recognition 1998 – Side curtain airbags 2005 – Night view assist 2012 – Surround-view system It's not to say that others couldn't have figured it out, but Mercedes-Benz did it first. 3 Likes |

She made reference to Google, and Google makes reference to various sites and no clear cut definitive answer. djon78: People seff So Toyota is the number one automaker doesn't make their products best.. Is Toyota better than Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini....these firms produce for niche market unlike Toyota that produces for everyone Just like Benz....Benz isn't a car for everyone . Toyota is a car for everyone Understand the concept of niche market Because you sell 20 bags of pure water doesn't make pure water better than Eva or nestle bottled water Understand this concept 2 Likes

AmuDimpka: You didn't answer my question. Benz is in niche market what's there market capitalization versus Toyota? From market capitalization you understand how vast the scope of each is. Example amazon, Apple, Microsoft and google all have there market capitalization in the trillion dollars segment. Toyotas market capitalization is about $300billion while Mercedes capitalization is not up to $50billion. Toyota is a much bigger company in comparison to Mercedes. You are talking about niche marketing, Toyotas marketing strategy is different from Mercedes. They are in every segment of the market even the niche market that's why Lexus was made to compete in the segment of Mercedes market. So I don't see any basis someone comparing the two business wise. Toyota are excellent with there strategy and at what the do that's why they are number one automaker in the world. They have bigger capitalization They have bigger revenues They have bigger profit They are the market leader number 1 1 Like |

AmuDimpka: Whatever you like say But number 1 automaker in the world is Toyota You talk about quality Quality may mean different thing to a customer It's a customer that determines the quality he expects That's where customer satisfaction icomes to play But for millions of Toyota's customers purchasing there products worldwide Yes it's quality to them As long as there wants are satisfied The results/patronage speaks for itself 1 Like |
