I dont know what you are expanding it to but I doubt it will be much bigger than double (1 M TEUs). You're in a rat race

I rem talking about this more than a year ago, whereby cargo is unloaded straight to waiting trains and taken inland (Nairobi and Naivasha) instead of wasting time at the yard. We keep outdoing ourselves! Now, we have extended the SGR tentacles to all parts of the port.

To maximise port efficiency, the SGR project has extended a 3KM relief line from berth 1 all the way to Port Reitz marshalling yard. It will now be easier to load cargo onto the SGR from from anywhere around the port.

By now, gauging the size of Mombasa port should include counting Nairobi and Naivasha ICDs (as part and parcel of Mombasa port). Because, lets face it, a typical container in Dar port lies at the port for 5 to 9 days. At the same time, a typical container unloaded in Mombasa port is in Nairobi or Naivasha within 24 hrs of offloading.
