Synergy of the local vigilante group and the police in Anambra State: A proactive step to combat crime

In Nigeria, the prevalence of crime has become a worrisome issue just like in some other jurisdictions. This is based on the fact that crime is a threat to public safety, growth and development of a nation. Crime rates vary in different jurisdictions, and the mechanisms put in place to check the trend and incidence also vary. In Nigeria, the police have been saddled with the responsibility to combat crime, along with other law enforcement agents established by law to carry out similar duties in different capacities. However, with the increase in crime in different communities, the enormous duty on the police, the inadequacies in accomplishing this task and the expectation of the masses for government to ensure security and peace, it became imperative that the community security services be adopted to complement and assist these law enforcement agents to combat crime in Nigeria, hence the existence of the local vigilante group in Anambra State since 2011.


What some people are making noise about today on media, Anambra State government under Peter Obi started it in 2011, Anambra Vigilante group(AVG), they are fully equipped they carry pump action guns, mind you before establishment of state vigilante group different communities in Anambra State has different community vigilante groups.

This is a very good one which if properly and effectively done will boost security situation in the state .

After they where established in 2011, and backed by state law in 2013 the former governor donated 250 Innoson trucks to the local vigilante group

Peter Obi was a real administrator. Anambra under him changed for the better. The journey is still far but we will get there.

I am glad Willie Obiano didn't discard all his good policies, especially education funding in the state. Public schools in Anambra state has become the beautiful bride once more.
