IsJustGrace: "Our" first language or "your" first language? There are lots and lots of Nigerians who don't speak English or don't speak it up to native level. 1 Like |

LagosismyHome: How is English language our first language? English language is our official language and not first language. We are talking of something that is internationally recognized and not something a family or two do. |

Who else is going to RGU in September... I was offered an admission for business and management (with placement), a 2years program...would there really be an automatic placement or it's just a marketing strategy? |
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 3 by Cyberknight: 3:58pm On Mar 02, 2020 |
IsJustGrace: I always answer "yes" to this question, because English is my first language. I grew up speaking English, I think in English, I dream in English, and if the Gestapo test were applied to me (waking up someone from sleep suddenly before they gather full control), the first words out of my mouth would be in English. You alone know if it is your first language. However, Africans coming from countries where English is the "official" language are required to provide proof of having passed an English language exam to an acceptable standard (e.g. C6 in SSCE), which requirement is not imposed on those who are deemed to be "native" speakers, such as the English-speaking West Indian countries (Jamaica and the rest), the US, Australia, NZ, Canada, etc. 1 Like |

IsJustGrace: With respect to the application, English should be your first language except you are not sure of yourself. Just answer Yes and move on. You don't need IELTS to successfully register with HCPC from Nigeria. 2 Likes |

I agree. ‘Your first language is usually the language you learned and spoke in the home. It can also be your primary language, especially if you've later learned a second language. Your primary language is the language that you speak everyday in most situations — home, work, school, etc. It can be a second language for you.’ For most people who went to Uni in Nigeria and are looking to study in the UK at postgrad level, I would be very surprised if English is not their first language as it is the official language. So yes, whilst it may be a second language, if it is your primary language as defined above, it is your first language. Cyberknight: |

LagosismyHome: That is for you and some people you know but factually Nigeria is not a native English speaker. No country recognize us as native English speaking country' This is why we have to prove that we can read and write when applying for certain type of visa or admission, but if you studied in the UK, US, Canada etc you don't have to meet such requirement even as you are still a Nigerian. |

Adebayojide: Interesting situation. I haven't encountered it before, so this is just a suggestion. I know the difference between annulment and divorce - an annulment treats a marriage deemed legally invalid as if it never existed in the first place, and reverts the spouses to their original positions before the marriage was contracted, while a divorce dissolves a legally valid marriage. In my opinion, if there was a change of position during the marriage (e.g. a change of name by the wife or a child born who now has the names of both parents on their birth certificate thus resulting in a documentary trail that needs explaining), I would suggest you choose "divorced" as a catch-all covering any form of marriage dissolution and explain the difference, where relevant, in a cover letter. If there was no change of name, no child born, and nothing to explain, then the issue doesn't arise. |

If you are registered with the professional association in Nigeria, you can apply for jobs directly from Nigeria. However, your location might hinder ur chances of getting invited for interview but if you are lucky to be invited there are some interview questions you might struggle with if u don’t have UK experience e.g Health and Safety questions IsJustGrace: 1 Like |

I don’t knw much about environmental management as a course but I knw a bit about public health. With public health you can still get job with NHS but the Issue is with experience. Yes u can switch to Biomed but before/after ur masters u will have to do topup modules to bring ur 1st degree up to the IBMS standard. You have to submit ur transcripts to IBMS and pay them to compare with their standard before they advise on the modules to do. Omaa1: 2 Likes |
