I would attribute his contribution to something I will call "motivation quotient". There are so many people with high IQ that are not motivated to increase their crystalline intelligence (by learning skills, facts etc) so although their fluid intelligence (the one that standard IQ test measures) is very high, they haven't achieved much in their careers.

For example, that you can solve novel problems easily doesn't mean that you would be able to sit down and learn maybe something like French for 8 months.

The world is changing. Even our IQ level is changing with it.
