But this wasn't in anyway your fault though, it's not about the stock you bought, rather you were in the market when the tsunami started. Which stock hasn't been battered yet?

Oga, you need to be more realistic than this oo.

First of all, the major issue with this outbreak bothers on its contagion. Currently, its estimated that every 1 person who is infected infects two to three people. This is made more complicated with emerging facts that people become contagious before showing symptoms. These majorly(highlighting the difficulty to contain the virus) are the reasons governments around the world are taking drastic measures.

The measures taken by several governments around the world to guard against the outbreak or further spread of COVID-19 within their borders (which are not excessive in my opinion, compared with battling a full blown outbreak like China is and recently some other countries (South Korea, Italy, Iran) are doing) are the real drivers of negative impact on the global economy.

And should the outbreak get into pandemic proportions, it will get worse. The best news, in that instance in particular, naturally speaking, would be either or both of invention/discovery of a cure or vaccine.

Over 75% of my stock market fund is invested in the market but that will not mean I won't say the truth when I see it.

Exactly. We wouldn't know how many Nigerians that Italian must have infested until 14 days from now. They can only quarrantine all the people they think he associated with and there may be many more left.

Tsunamis will always come to the market, some are predictable while some can't be predicted. The most important thing Is to have a risk management strategy and being positioned to benefit from the tsunami no matter the direction of the market.

I don't see this as per risk management though. Investors like you are very happy with what is happening and you get to cherry pick. Traders are not happy!.

Am a trader and I have made it a rule to run at the slightest provocation, once I see the sign, I japaaa. We all need to understand what we are here for, get a strategy and stick to it.

I did something today and Oracle has been laughing at me all day and he did opposite of what I did. We are both presently fine with the decisions we took, him being an investor and I a trader.

The bolded makes the difference - countries are taking drastic measures to check the spread. While they are at that, the economy will suffer, but there is always an end to all these, isn't it? I cant remember the name of the analyst who likened stock selloff to one's stomach being pushed inwards. It gets to a point where it cannot go in anymore. The market is currently bearish, and as expected, the sentiments sway accordingly. If it goes bullish, and is sustained, most wont remember this period.

Coming back to NSE, would you really say the slaughter going on is caused by corona virus?

There is always an end to every issue. Nothing last forever. But now market is yet to fully price the effect this Virus will have. There are lots of sectors it is impacting on.

Look at education. There is a ban on gathering. So everyone will now have to go online to get education till there is a cure or containment since there is a ban on ALL schools opening.

Look at 2020 Olympics in Japan. Will it hold? How about the investment sunk into the country to prepare for it?

It has huge cascading effect.

The slaughter going on in this NSE and worldwide markets is still due to the virus. Reason is this: investors have foreseen that if industries are closed, there will be less use for energy, less use for vehicles. If flights are banned, there will be less fuel used on planes. Refiners will shutdown or drop refining. If these happens, there will be demand shock on Oil. No one wants to buy. Price falls. And remember, countries are still producing more oil and there are more discoveries. Our CBN will be assuring investors that naira will not be devalued so long as our reserve is above $30b(for example). And these investors will be seeing that oil demand will continue to be affected due to this demand shock and they will fret and bail out.

On the worldwide market front, investors will see that companies results will be affected drastically because there is no sales, no spare parts, services as at Q1. They know that earnings will be impacted badly. So everyone will run 440 and hold cash.

And this is the worst time to run because the exit doors are locked.
