My dear, I’m not scolding you. We all make mistakes yea but in cases like this, it’s usually a ban. Just give them your response and hope it will end in only a refusal and not a ban. In looking for an excuse, it is assumed that you can read and totally comprehend every information on that form. So there’s really no excuse at all. Just come out clean, apologize and wait for their response. I hope it’s favorable for you.

Please guys, I need help oh. I forgot to tick the part if the form that States that i have been previously denied Visa entry. This is my second application. I was sent this email this morning. Please help me. How do I respond to it. Please oh.

Well, the mistake has been made and now is the time to act. I want to assume someone else filled that form for you and you did not choose to deliberately misinform the visa officer. If someone else applied for you, did you fill the representative form?

I will suggest you respond with an emotional letter explaining what happened and how you have been so unhappy, distraught, emotionally disturbed ….. since you got that reply. Explain how you will never deliberately do such, apologise and promise that such mistake will never happen again.

Make sure your letter is brief, straight to the point. I wish you all the best.

I am thinking of responding that I mistakenly uploaded the wrong form IMM1294. That it was a big mistake from my part. And explain that I indeed applied for study permit last year October and was denied on November 7th base on purpose of visit before i applied on November 13th. And also address the fact that I was denied a USA B1/B2 in 2016. But unknowingly uploaded the wrong form and very sorry about as I do not have the intention of hiding any information about my previous application.

I also want to tell applicants to be very careful. The IMM document is the first document the visa officer always look at and CIC is very thorough when it comes to study permit and PR applications.

Hello Everyone
Please I want to apply for a student visa in Canada . I’m 27 and I want to apply for an M. Ed Programme, I graduated with a CGPA of 3.87 but sincerely I don’t know how to go about it, a colleague said I should try EWC Nigeria, it’s a consultation firm that helps people with admission in Canada but I just went through their page and the reviews I saw are a bit discouraging . Is there anyone that has used them before? I know it’s not within their jurisdiction to issue visa.
Please I need all the assistance I can get ,I just need some sort of guidance. Thank you.

You can do the process yourself. The first step is looking for schools, and apply to 2 or 3 schools that has your program. It could be masters, PGC or PGD. You qualify for all with of these programs with your CGPA. Masters admission can take 3 - 6 months, while college admission can be approved within weeks.

Once you apply to schools, while waiting for admission, read up on the next step, which is applying for visa.

A brief overview of the process and documents you need can be found here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit.html

Once you are done reading from that site (it is the official site), then to make life easy for you, read up on people who have had their study permits approved so you can have an idea of the documents they submitted.

Some people I know are blema111, bracha, vestment, Austacus, sleekysoft, wheynme, lonelydude. All you need to do is type their names in the search button on nairaland and you will be able to see their previous posts.

Also, check the last 3 pages and you will see recent study visa approvals and the documents they submitted. If you have done all this and you have questions, please come back and ask here.

This study permit process application to Canada is extreme hardwork but it is worth it.

Thanks for your response bro,
I didn't feel a representative form. Also, i have been going through my IMM5257 (Application for Temporary Residence) form and can not find the section for that question as indicated by the VO on the PFL. I finally found the section on form IMM1294 (Application for study permit outside canada.
I'm confused right now

Thank you
nochyks87:

Firstly, you have the right to dual intent according to IRCC, this means that you can have an active express entry profile and still apply for a study permit. In My case I had and still have an active express entry profile and still got approval. Secondly, when you do an upfront medical, the hospital sends your result to the CIC database for easy access and during your application you upload the slip the hospital gave you as evidence. As per the person that didn't upload his/hers, it simply means the person did not do an upfront medical before applying. As a result, he/she did so after applying and is probably waiting for a medical request before uploading the slip. All the best.

An ideal SOP should be like how many pages please

Hello Adetayoade1,

There is no standard format or set number of pages. However, 3 pages should be enough to outlay your explanations.

Hello Eguoski,

Your chances of not getting a ban is slim. The least that could be done is respond with complete honesty and remorse as Naijaforeigner has advised. Don't try to justify anything or yourself, admit blame and apologize.

N.B: if you have the time and resources at your disposal, you can as well contact an immigration lawyer in Canada for help and professional advise.

Hello Zika123,

You don't necessarily have to but don't ever forget to tick that you were refused a visa before in the column provided for it in the IMM form 1294e.

These guys are humans, its called procedural fairness, it was an obvious mistake. Declare you were denied before with date and documents where possible and you will pass. They know you may have made a mistake. this is an opportunity to correct it because if they ban you straight away it will very unfair on their part. If you deny again then you will be banned.

It’s not as easy as you dey look am. You cannot misrepresent an information that they consider important and walk away after an explanation. It doesn’t work that way. It is either you would be refused the visa which is quite unlikely or outright ban.

On a second thought, PhD is a research work that requires you to be highly independent and curious minded. This can be be displayed in the quality of your research idea or prospective research focus. A 500-words abridged research proposal is a good measure of how you can pass across your ideas in few words. An expanded proposal may be requested in other cases but keeping it simple have always worked for me.

You also need academic preparations in terms of qualifications and grades. A minimum of 2.1 will be good enough to qualify you. Some programs/countries requires you to write standardized exams (GRE/GMAT). This may make up for high 2.2 or low 2.1 grades in places where the exam score are not required. So if you submit (even when they are not required) these could help your case. NB: you stand better chance if your masters is an academic degree (not a professional/terminal degree) - check out status of yours and the difference from experts in your discipline. If you have an MPhil, even better. You may want to do a second masters that is academic (one year) and aim to score high.

Below is the process that has always worked for me to secure PhD admissions in different countries.

1. Choose a focus area and subject you want to research.
2. Write an abridged proposal -- check samples online and in libraries for structure.
3. You may want to develop a more robust proposal as back up in case your program/supervisor requires it
4. Search for programs, schools, or professors who specialize in your interest area. Look at their works and you may even find research ideas from such places. Get the emails and other contact details for any of these that may interest you.
5. My advise is to also look at the admissions requirement and availability of funding in these programs. They are usually open about what comes with the offer, if you get it.
6. One or more research publications in peer-reviewed journals will boost your chances.
7. A good unpublished writing sample - term paper, assignment, project report - may also be adequate.
8. Using the draft proposals to craft a simple (250 - 300 words) inquiry email to prospective supervisors. This is a very important email -- all aspects are crucial -- right to the captioned subject. For instance, Enquiry: Prospective PhD in International Development Studies
9. Send out this email to as many relevant professors as possible. BUT always edit them so you can direct to appeal to the interests of such people.
10. If you receive 3 out 10 replies your inquiries, then you are either lucky or sufficiently good to catch their attention. Reason is they receive 10's of such emails weekly. Don't be discouraged! Some will ignore altogether, some will tell you they are not available or interested, some will request for additional information -- scan transcripts, writing sample, CV etc. If your email and research area meets with someone who is looking to hire a Phd student in that same area, then you are you have crossed a major hurdle. They would usually request a meeting/interview via Skyp at this point. If you impress during your interview and they say you can go ahead to apply, your admission and funding are almost guaranteed. You must ensure your focus is always tweaked to match the interests of people you are contacting. There may be other variations to these but this is mostly my personal experience and from friends I know who have also succeeded in their PhD quest.

When you get to this point in your quest, you have my email then you can reach out for more tips. Otherwise, if you have the funds then just put in a good application to many schools and you can get one or two. Mostly, PhDs are not admitted because of your fees but your research potential.
