In the olden days na paper dem dey take wrap slice bread and no fruits were kept inside polythene bags. Pure water, bottled water was scarce because na well treated pipeborne water we dey drink. If you must drink ice water it was always inside glass bottles. When you fetch pipeborne water inside your pail, you could smell the chlorine coming out. The water would first look whitish but once settled, you could see the bottom of your pail, to tell you how pure it was. Rice, pounded yam, fufu eba etc were always wrapped with leaves, not cellophane or what we know as nylon. Those in the villages would drink water flowing from a distance, which must have packed and carried along the calcium and magnesium needed by our body...who remembers this? I'm not talking of the indomie generations born from late 80s and above because they would never know. Things dey happen nowadays...blame it all on our govt 9 Likes 3 Shares |

The problem arises when the packaged material is hot.The heat causes the release of the dangerous components of the plastic into the food. Yustash001: |

I wonder what sort of professor calls polyethene, nylon. Polyethene isn't nylon. No one uses nylon as food packaging. Nylon is mostly used in making ropes, strings, umbrellas, raincoats etc. 1 Like |

I think we have really missed it as a people... Is it now Nafdac realised this? A reality that even my aged mother knows? So what alternative packaging material did their laboratory come up with? That was what I hoped to see when I clicked on the story. Mtceeeew. 3 Likes |

Surprised this news is just getting to Nigeria or is it reminder? Phenol is a very toxic and potentialy dangerous agent, for those of us who are into production with raw materials, you have to be careful when dealing with them. At a time they suggested using foil but then again another report came up that some Aluminium content is released into the foods hence making it harmful. I guess we'll have to go back to stone age and start using Clay pots and leaves |

If his news is true then why are they warming consumers instead of manufacturers? It is your job to regulate food and drugs and ensure safe practices to protect the consumers. 3 Likes |
