Roadtoyesterday:
We started the work as a field agent sometime last year, it was a telecommunications work (MTN 4G upgrade) I was still in my final year in school when I joined. 4 months into the job I was made the supervisor, when I became the supervisor, I notice the agents were been short changed, in terms of benefits and payments, I tried working on the irregularities but it bounced back to me, gbam I was fired for lodging a complaint on the delayed salaries of the workers.

A. Month after, my depth profile became so high, I was the one supporting my family and sponsoring my junior ones. I hate myself for trying to be holier than thou while at work. Till this moment, I've not gained myself. I've lost everything. At this point I can only hope God sees my heart and reward me if truly God support good decision.

The Quran says : "Do you think we will not test you?"

Take this as a test from God and he is gonna bless you afterwards. Don't ever think of doing crime like Yahoo or stealing or any other.
Pray to God, believe and He is gonna come through for you.

That's my father's advice to me when I offered to join Yahoo to pay off his debt. I still don't have anything but I have God.

Just a word of caution to those who think the IT field is all rosy, you are in for a shocker.

for every 1 person who makes 750k there are 10 of them who is making half or lesser than that.

There are tons of guys out there with hands on skills in tech who don't even make beyond 100k. Be it in web development, Cyber security or Networking etc.

I see lots of caps in the comment section saying get this and that skill and you are on your way to big money in 1yr or 18months, that's not really true.

Sometimes it's just luck or grace whichever you call it, however one thing that's certain in life is that if you keep upgrading your self, your earning power will increase.

There are so many tech guys out there earning huge that don't really know as much as you think, it's all bout Time and chance.

Don't go into tech because you think you can blow by just learning HTML css JavaScript in 1yr or 18minhs, first you will be frustrated by the tech lessons and frustrated by the offers.

Do it because you love tech coz in this field you will Read the FVCK out!

Time and chance is a factor too but if the person gains 3+ years of solid experience in the industry then they will likely be paid higher as time goes on. Experience helps too. As for me I am focused on building my experience for now once a better opportunity comes I plan to take it. I pray time and chance be in my favour.

You can start with HTML, CSS (Not CMS) and JavaScript. You can use freecodecamp.com and other online resources to learn

It's not "luck". What stands you out, is your skill set, experience and your weave of programming architecture.

There are tons of programmers who just have the basic skill set (they fall in the category you described). They barely scrap through jobs because they're just basic. Just like any other job, you can't expect to just be basic and be getting tons of offers.

If you're programmer who has a blend of skillset, experience, mastered prog architecture, versatile in in-demand stack, you won't be needing any luck, you'll be spoilt for choice. On LinkedIn everyday, HRs are approaching individuals with offers by just going through their profiles.

There is a shortage of skilled programmers, the market is still under staffed.
Andela is pivoting business models to cater for Senior devs because that's what the market needs.

In Germany, there is an increasing need for experienced devs and they'll latch on you from anywhere in the world. Nigerians are been given offers week in, week out to relocate to Germany.

My colleague turned down a relocation offer to Hamburg because they did not match his pay demand. They had to match his demand before he put pen to paper. How many Nigerians have such opportunities to turn down relocation offer to a first world country? Guess what? This guy I am talking about, has ALL the skillset and stack plus experience to be able to bargain...he didn't need luck.

Trying to pity someone who was ready to pay you 28,000 British pounds (not even dollars) per year as a remote worker?

Your village people got you real good. Listen.

I knew Akin Alabi of Nairabet from years back before he even hammered. He told me one thing I will never forget: never cheapen the value of your product!

Ever since that day, I charge clients premium rates. You could have been the work hub coordinator, setting the rates paid for accommodation and other expenses.

Please we need people like you to drill down such language into people's heads. People think Cristiano Ronaldo got to where he was based on luck. How many 35 year olds players are still delivering at such high level as he is? Even the great Zidane was done at 34 years.

You have to decide within yourself to stand out. Once you are good at what you do, even the so-called racist countries will become colour-blind.

mine: I was not fired but I loss the job because of let me say greediness on my part.
I am a mathematics teacher I do private lessons,
So this woman called me for lesson, I billed her 100K per month (three times a week one hour thirty minutes each)

She begged for #60,000 I said no my last is 80K
(i don't know the spirit that was speaking on my behalf because I know that was not me, maybe the spirit of one of those motivational speakers saying never settle for less)

Because my current lessons are far below her offer at that time.

When I reach house the regret I have, I have never had that in my life, well, it was a lesson that helped me in future negotiations

You are wasting your skill. Do you know that Mathematicians are the ones who are programming the statistical models behind the high frequency trading algorithms used by Goldman Sachs and other big banks that make a killing trading the financial markets?

I nearly cried reading your story because I just see potentials wasting away!

People that don't know a thing about IT are here rambling around asking if 750k per month is possible. My immediate line manager in my last workplace at Oniru estate in Lekki is earning $2200 per month. One business dev guru is earning $1600 in the same company. Have you converted those to Nigerian naira? The day I discovered he was earning so much for doing things that I can easily do and even more, I started plotting my move away. He outsourced many of the tasks to me and took credits for it including serious emergencies in production systems.

Exactly two months after, I left the company for another where my salary is more than twice their pay.

Let me say that people are earning big time in Nigeria. And to even shock you, some earn big for doing little in private establishments.

In my next job, I will not settle down with 750k per month salary except there are perks that support such base salary.

Y'all talking about IT skills. I am not an IT engineer but I earn much more than some. Get HR Certifications and become an HR Business Partner. A good certification / Masters in International Law can also land you a lucrative role.

There are exceptions to every rule, there are also ppl that run their businesses that earn in multiples of the said amount. You are lucky to have found a good job with HR. But what is the no of demand for HR? My babe relocated to Canada via student visa, after her studies in HR, she could not land a job. She had to borrow sense and went back to school for 2yrs nursing course and with that, job was never a problem. IT is good for very young ppl that are scaling up, cos new technologies keep coming out and you have keep training to still be in demand. If someone is good in IT (new technologies) and has good mentors that will tell you where it is happening, the sky is the starting point.

In addition, you were somewhat too complacent, too relaxed so to speak, truth is in life so long as you work for someone you have to always be on your toes at all times . . .Be sensitive to your environment, whom you talk with, what you share. . .and whatever!

Finally , get a plan B, I mean like a side hustle or something legit you know? Sometimes when the chips are down you could always have something to fall back on . . .pray for divine direction before every key engagements .#Blessings!

My sentiments exactly, most times the things people do to earn big are not necessarily exceptional. There will always be someone who can do it as well or even better but lack of proper positioning and skill packaging

Sometimes, it is not just luck, but ppl don't know where to look . Some ppl limit themselves to Nigeria job market whereas there are tons of foreign recruiters looking for such skills,For example, there is a recruiter in Canada that is sourcing for programmers. They arrange interview for you on Skype as soon as you apply with a programming skill set . And when they hire you, you are on your way to Canadian PR. They will prepare your working permit and travel docs in less than 2 weeks. Another country is Germany. If you have good IT skills, you look for jobs on one website like that ( i have forgotten the name) the website is in German so you will have to open with chrome and translate to English to apply. They give you employment visa even without the A2 German language which they usually require from other ppl from other occupations. So with UK, getting a global talent visa as an experienced IT person is easy.
I can go on and on.

The person I pity most is my son. He must start coding b4 8years.Each time I look at him,he doesn't know why? I will so mentor him that his peers will be no where close, God willing . I also pray for good health and finance to be able to send him to all the trainings that will shoot him fast.
