When a stock is gaining over 100% in a down market, you've got to pay attention!

Maybe this should have been posted Monday morning but I couldn't wait to post this one.
That's because I witnessed what I have never experienced before.
For the first time, I remained glued to my screen looking at the behaviour of only one stock for 30 minutes!

It was past trading time last night after 9.30pm Nigerian time, but the usual market makers trading was still on so I was able to see this stock trade from 42m shares around $1.88 until it rose to a day's high of $2.35 and came down back to close at $1.90 with a total of 50.4m shares traded finally.

I saw that it opened the day at a mere $0.90, meaning at a closing price of $1.90, this stock gained a whole $1.00/share, translating to a whopping 111% gain in one day!
It has now gained 292% in the last 5 days, 210% in the last 1 month, and 256% from January to date.

This is such an "unreal" or out-of-this-world return I had to look for information why this is happening. I wondered if this could be a typical case of what is called "Pump & dump" especially when the last info I could lay my hands on was an article written since Sept. 2019 about how the stock had slumped from an all time high of $17.95 to a terrible low of $0.42.

I continued my search all night until alas I found the reason at about 4am.
Tocagen is merging with Forte Biosciences.
It was announced during their Conference Call on February 20, 2020.

A good entry and exit timing will surely make you some serious gains on Monday.

Good thread. I have been using bamboo for a few months now. Since i dont know much about stocks and no time for active trading, i am sticking with etfs - vanguard types precisely.

Even with all things fundamental and technical looking good about the stock market, a sudden viral disease can emerge and make nonesence of every human permutation.

Understanding the market is knowing where next the money goes.

I'm tempted to short Cruise lines at this point. Not only are people canceling their bookings, those who have been brave enough to travel have been dealing with Corona virus exposure and ships prevented from docking due to the virus. It's just so expensive to short them now because they keep falling everyday.

Volatility has been so high. I will keep playing it. My TVIX call is up 155% so far.

After months of ruminating over this idea, I am glad to manage the time to create a tread like this.
This tread is to further open Nigerians and foreigners alike who have the same passion of wealth creation via investing in the United States stock markets.
As you may know, the market in the US is mirrored by the indices such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), The Standard & Purse (S&P) and the NASDAQ.
The whole essence is to have a pool of both inexperienced but interested would-be investors, and experienced resource persons who are willing to give back to the society by making informed analysis and opinions on the developments in the world markets and how members of this forum can make informed investment decisions accordingly.
I have tasted a bit of this market and can confirm that the world is a global village and that anyone can trade in the US market and make real US dollars from profits made.
For instance, I took a good look at the newly listed company called Virgin Galactic with thicker symbol (SPCE) and bought some shares at $8.20 on the 9th of December 2019. After watching it for a while and doing some more due diligence, I bought much more on the 10th of December 2019 at $9.23 as it kept rising.
As I type this piece to create this tread today the 4th of February 2020, it is trading at $19.56 per share! And am not a genius.

Gentle men and ladies, we can make a lot of money if we pool our wealth of knowledge and turn it into tangible financial cash cow.
This is not a get rich quick scheme, never a ponzi scheme, neither is this intended for any sort of internet fraud.
Wealth requires hard work (mental and intellectual) mixed with a good dose of patience.
I believe we are very many out there looking for legitimate source of building wealth.
This is just one more avenue we can utilize to team up together to accelerate our financial freedom.
Knowledge they say is power, but until acquired knowledge is applied, there can never be power.

Therefore I humbly declare this forum open to all chartists, fundamentalists, and freshers alike.

Wow...the Dow has already jumped 500 points today , rebounding from the slide caused by the coronavirus in China!

So 4 days ago on 30th January I bought into this Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO at $4.03/share.
I thought it would tank further when it went down to $3.80ish yesterday due to the coronavirus scare in China.
It has powered to $4.54 right this moment at an 11.7% gain today.

OakPearl and Yer Yer...i found something about United Technologies[UTX] spinning off Otis and Career [hope i am correct] before April. That is if you have 1 UTX ,you will get 1 OTIS. and 0.5 Career. Right now UTX is down from 168 to 126...is it a good buy,coupled with the fact that there is free money coming from the spin-off I think it is a bargain..But..

What do you think about it? The prices of these spin-off companies were not mentioned.

Nigeria is a good environment for business. I tried using etoro cos I am based in Ireland and I was asked for tax number and I saw I online that I will pay 33 percent of my profit to the government from my etoro earnings. Who does that in Nigeria. Just scared of those platforms but right now I am using them no matter what cos I can't pay to who doesn't know how I made my money
