Value system. As simple as that.

True, harsh climate could contribute a little to quick development, but it all boils down to value system.

Singapore is as hot and sweaty as Nigeria, they developed even faster and earlier than South Korea, Indonesia and far earlier than China that were all colder.

Unlike their neighbors in East Asia, Thailand and Philippines just started serious development about 15 years back all because they use to have the same value system as Nigeria "God will judge".

Effective punishment and reward system is what develops a country.

If you like, have all the electricity in the world and you don't have equal justice; it will be a matter of time before the whole country collapses.

The only country that has tried to prove this theory wrong is Sri Lanka. And e get why...
