Off Topic: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/03/influential-nigerian-traditional-ruler-dethroned-200309174644836.html "Ganduje won re-election as governor and quickly ordered the creation of four new emirates in Kano in a bid to reduce Sanusi's control and influence." How on earth did a Governor have the power to create Emirates, that's just odd 1 Like |

Sizzorkay: He has 100% of the power. Emirates are not LGAs. Governors can play with traditional institutions anyway they like. Ganduje is not doing half of what we have done in the SW with traditional institutions. In the SW, we have dethroned, banished, demoted and sometimes exiled traditional rulers. We've been doing it since the 50s. Most Nigerians reason kids that is why I have corrected people many times that the problem with Nigeria is not the Presidency but Governors. Governors are emperors. They reign usually unchecked in their states and they are getting away with blue murder because they can sell ethnic nationalism to those who cannot see beyond their hatred. When they do that they come into power and illegally appropriate LGA funds, play around with traditional institutions and finance thugs and ethnic militias to perpetuate themselves in power. What if SLS was the kind of person who sends mobs into the streets? . Governors are the reason that Nigeria is unsafe, not Buhari and if you have not figured this out yet, you need to travel 3 Likes |

WARTHUNDER: Please stop this over emphasis on over equipping platoons with gold plated stuff that have no relevance to battle field evolving threats. The NA is doing a lot of "appropriate procurement ". What you dont want to buy is kit that is useless in battle. A lot of the stuff you are suggesting cannot work.and half would be captured by Boko Haram. They get captured not because NA is weak but because BHT can sacrifice 5 suicide bombers to capture one tank and they can isolate heavy weapons for capture in the heat of battle. On ATGMs, we have made the point severally that they are difficult to use in a dynamic battle environment. Compared with recoiless rifles and ordinary RPGs, ATGMs are a dud and there are technical issues - guidance systems get interfered with, vegetation cover can disturb electro optics. The NA has asked for choppers, give them that instead of expensive field equipment to be fielded against a weaker enemy who knows how to choose his battles and wont play to your strengths. There are also wider threat landscapes than Boko Haram. Nigeria is restocking on main battle tanks in a few months but most of these are going to other theaters aside from Boko Haram |

To cap it all, this is the most dangerous and expensive part of the movie. Live rounds were used in the helicopter attack scene. In the F-7Ni live 60mm rockets were expended. For obvious reasons I cannot show you the clips. But the risks taken is incredible. Source @DefenseNigeria

A throwback from a deployment in eastern DRC while I was working with a UPDF battalion in counter-LRA operations in 2013/14. I am about to be airlifted back the division HQ in S Sudan. The Div Commander had arranged for my medic (Shawn P) and I to be greeted with doughnuts and tea on arrival at the Div HQ. The Bn Commander is bidding Shawn and I farewell. @eeben Barlow 1 Like

Nigeria scheduled to get 4 remaining of 6 choppers AW-109M Armed Gunships this 2020 year. Wonder if FGN can order all 6 deploy & employ as 6 chalks army controlled via C2 of theatre commander N.E. with Chalk 1 to 3 in L. Tchad Basin ISWAP resurgence zone, chalk 4 to 6 Yobe sector AOR Nigér Rèpublic borderline hot sector. Senegal's 4 planes L-39NG 4th Gen. light combat jets delivery scheduled to start this year 2020 too. Ethiopian Army silently took delivery of her 4 vehicles Pantsir SAM with 100 missiles, ahead of Cameroon's Army Pantsir SAM incoming. Many South-Sahara African Armies arming up beyond CT-COIN hardware, all 5 regions of Africa now to operate or already operating new Panstir SAM missile systems. Angola when it gets her 3 planes C-295M MPA, means the NAF MPA fleet of 2 planes ATR-42 MPA will no longer have monopoly of maritime security airpower in our oil rich Gulf of Guniea. Competition for the air above huge riches in off-shore oil & gas wealth. Senegal takes lead in Green Water naval sea power in ECOWAS region with dozens of sea skimming anti-ship Marte missiles 30+ km range and Simbad SHORAD SAM ordered for her 3 new OPV-58 guided missile fast attack crafts in addition to main guns. Some countries telling others "when you have billion dollar ocean deposit oil & gas you need more than gunboats to secure it, repeated perception of 'no big threat' is national military stupidity in this unpredictable world. 6 Likes

There are cycles in military deployment. Whether army, navy or air force etc, every asset is deployed in cycles. 1 in the field; 1 in training; 1 in maintenance (r&r in the case of people) and 1 in reserve. One can provision for 3 and forgo the reserve at a pinch, but it's not optimal. No decent military will disregard this axiom and hope to survive. So, if a commander has 3 or 6 Mi35 and commits all to the field, inevitably he will have none in the field. 2 Likes |
